Recently I read this book called Sorcerers of the Nightwing by Geoffrey Huntington, it is a great book by the way. In the beginning, you will meet a young boy named Devon, who is attacked by a demon as a young boy. Fast forwarding a few years later Devon’s father gets very sick, he dies, but tells Devon that he is adopted. Soon after he is sent to a place called Misery Point, where he meets Amanda and Cecily Crandall, and Alexander Muir. He lives with them at Ravenscliff, a very creepy house on top a hill in Misery Point. Later Devon faces a demon that appeared out of his closet, he remembers his father’s words from when he was young, that he is stronger than any of them. He defeats the demon in without fear, and questions why it was there. …show more content…
Unfortunately for Devon, it’s not that simple.Around a quarter way through the book, with D.J., Marcus, Cecily, and Natalie; Devon went to Gio’s, a local pizza place. Being as the chapter is called The Boy With the Talons for Hands, you could guess it’s probably not a human boy. After conversing with the group about how they all came to be friends, and then they suddenly heard a noise and commotion coming from outside of the parlor. D.J. attempts to break up the fight when Devon realizes that it is no kid that is in that fight. Though the kid had brandish hair, a small frame, jeans, and Nike sneakers; something was off about him… Maybe it was the talons that he was pummeling the other kid with. Then after telling the demon to go back to hell, punched the demon straight in the face, sending the demon flying out of the door. Devon was praised for his bravery and stares of awe from the crowd around them, even D.J. asking “How’d you get to be so strong?” in an awestruck way. Despite not being able to avoid the demon, he did save someone from being seriously hurt; thus avoiding more pain than needed, which probably was more of a demon for him. Surprisingly enough, all he had to do was punch the thing in the face and BAM! The demon’s out the
The Haunting of Gabriel Ashe is written by Dan Poblocki. The protagonist is a typical eighth-grade boy named Gabriel Ashe who lives in the spooky town of Slade. Gabriel (also known as Gabe) was forced to move with his family after a fire burned their old house to the ground. In Slade, however, there is a wicked phantom that is coming to power, and threatening Gabe and his family. Throughout the story we get fleeting glimpses of Gabe's cleverness, good-heartedness, and bravery as he struggles against the sinister force that is repeatedly attacking the citizens of Slade (the main conflict). Another conflict in the story is Gabe attempting to be accepted at his new school and striving to recover from being the terrible memory of being the “puppet
My favorite character in this book would have to be Peter. He was a little bit of a tough guy yet timid, but wasn’t afraid to fight for his siblings lives. Peter was the oldest amongst his brother and two sisters and was most likely the brains and brawn of the bunch. In this story, Peter has to fight off a wolf to test his courage or, in Aslan’s words, win his spurs. He returns victorious and is knighted by the lion called Aslan. His brother Edmund, a very mischievous boy and a bother to his sisters Lucy and Susan, looks up to Him though he never admits to it. Peter was definitely the highlight of this book.
In the beginning of the movie Will is just a peasant, squire but by the end of the movie, upon finding his newfound talent of jousting, he transformed is his social status from peasant to royalty by becoming a knight.

Many books, movies, and TV shows depict a character as the hero. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone isn’t any different from the stories that came from the Babylons. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series that was written by the author J. K. Rowling. These books take the readers through Harry’s adventures. Heroes tend to have a different upbringing than those that are not heroes.
Some might argue that there is no reason to retell such horrors that took place during the Holocaust to children, or that the Holocaust did not take place, so what is the point in teaching it? The Holocaust did in fact happen, and it happened not long ago. Some people can not see this as fathomable, but it is possible that if we do not tell posterity of these horrors, they could very well happen again. The book Night written by Elie Wiesel paints a dark and very real depiction of the Holocaust. It recounts the time the author spent in Auschwitz and how the experience affected him. There are a number of reasons why the Holocaust should be studied in schools, including how recently the Holocaust took place, the possibility that something similar
The initial connotation of the word daemon brings about thoughts of demons, making mirrored parallels between the characters of Satan in John Milton’s Paradise Lost, and the daemon in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein legitimate; however, further analysis of the word daemon links itself to Ancient Greeks. They believed a daemon was a being trapped somewhere between being considered a god and a human, or as a fallen hero. Although Milton’s novel sympathizes with Satan as a character, it still acknowledges the fall of Satan for disobeying God and attempting to overthrow him. The characters of the daemon and Satan are characterized as being sympathetic and complex beings, still capable of partaking in evil actions.
"Let your faith be bigger then your fears." (Unknown) When life beats you down into the dirt, pounds you down deeper into hardships, it can become almost impossible to keep holding on to faith. Elie Wiesel's "Night" is a excellent example of a huge loss in faith from a faithful community. Throughout the book, the protogonist is seeing his commrads, one by one, lose faith in what they believed in before. As the story continues, us, the readers, even start to see the protoganist lose his faith as well. No matter how highly they valued their faith, when it came down to the thin line of survival, they lost sight of what was true to them all their lives, God.
My book was Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. This book was peculiar because of its perspective on the world of demons. Starting to read the book showed me how mysterious but how organized CS Lewis makes this realm be. This book was first published in the February 1942. The book is set in the World War 2 era. The two main demons in the book are; senior demon Screwtape and Mr. Wormwood. The book is letters from Screwtape to Mr. Wormwood. The book refers to the father as Satan and the enemy as God. The conflict in this story is the demons are trying to tempt or destroy the patient’s (human being who is a British Christian) relationship (knowledge of God.) I believe he wrote it to relate and give a perspective on demons. I think he was trying to
Killing, kidnapping and battles, all parts of Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice. The main character, Lestat, is a well-known and flamboyant vampire. In Memnoch the Devil, Lestat is faced with a grim reality, causing his world to collapse around him. In a movie where good and evil are divided by a very thin line, the Dark Knight rises up to fight against injustice and corruption in Gotham City. An action sequel to the original Batman Begins, this installment is a lot darker filled with more explosion, twists, and suspense. For the first time, a comic has been integrated into the issues of the real world. With the help of District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordon, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining mob members and clean the streets of Gotham for good. Their success is only short-lived when they encounter the Joker, a mysterious mastermind who is out to prove that nobility cannot hold in a world of anarchy.
For nearly two centuries, witchcraft seemed to have disappeared. Although it was driven underground for a time, it is now the fastest growing religion in the United States. There are several reasons for its disappearance and now, for its return.
Sagas about princes and princesses, beauty, magic, and love, fairy tales like Snow White and Cinderella among others have become children’s favorite bedtime stories. However, as parents tuck their sons and daughters in, they fail to realize that there is a much more daunting purpose to these stories. American writer and poet, Jane Yolen suggests that fairy tales indicate life values. Furthermore, Yolen insists that these tales are “thumbprints of history” (Yolen 27). Studying fairy tales in depth, she proves that the “functions of myths” consist of “creating a landscape of allusion [and] enabling us to understand our own and out culture from inside out” (Yolen 18). Yolen confirms that these stories comment on, “the abstract truths of our
An accident made in the lab by father Utonium, created his three little girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. The animated series “The Powerpuff Girls” was created by Craig McCracken and directed by Lauren Faust and Genndy Tartakovsky. The show revolves around the adventure of three little girls trying to save their city, Townsville, from all of the evil monsters and bad people. Blossom is the leader of the trio, while Bubbles is the sweet blue eyed one, and Buttercup is the toughest one of them all. “Girls Gone Mild,” was the episode I decided to watch. We learn how an anti-Powerpuff group doesn’t want the girls using their powers anymore.
While many arguments can be made to defend Satan as the hero of this story, his power clearly declines throughout the poem. In the end, he does not achieve his goal. Satan is “bitter, but also acknowledges the reality of his circumstances” (Smith). We see Satan reach his peak, then his power gently declines by the end of the story. Although Satan is powerful and persevering, he is no match for God. We begin to see more of his flaws. Satan is undoubtedly charismatic and persuasive in his speeches, as well as a powerful military leader, yet he seems to be somewhat hypocritical as well. For example, when we are first introduced to Satan, he tells his followers not to be afraid, yet he is afraid himself. Some might view this as Satan being brave, but this could also be viewed as him being deceptive, which illustrates how he
