The slaves were treated absolutely malevolently by the Europeans without any respect or thought towards them. Often without hesitation, the men tortured and abused the slaves. For example, commanders often cut off the legs and arms of defiant slaves to prevent them for trying to rebel, as well as to terrify the rest of the slaves, as shown by Document 2. It is truly terrible that people felt that it was necessary to sever the limbs of the poor slaves. The ones that had to suffer this were ultimately disadvantaged for the rest of their lives because of this. In Document 3, it was discussed that the slaves had to suffer terrible conditions such as small, cramped areas with barely enough room to breathe. It also said in Document 4 that many of
Slavery by definition is the act of working extremely hard without appreciation and is mostly practiced by one person controlling and owning the other. How African slaves were treated in United States was against every right of humanity. Their treatment was characterized by brutality, inhumanity and rape for the innocent women. This treatment however varied with the place. For instance slaves in the upper Southern states had better working conditions compared to slaves in the Deep South.
Discuss the extent to which the religious schism during the sixteenth century was symptomatic of political, social, and economic problems.

“The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines with their bodies,” (65-66). Extended Metaphor of the Machine. Keeps running until friction (people/person) (counter friction, gears, ---> people.) The purpose is to have the Gov. keep working until stopped, so Stand Up!
Slaves were beaten for not doing their job right. Some slaves where even killed when they messed up at their jobs because they have been there for a while because they knew how to do it correctly but they messed up on accident and they were beat to death because their owner thought better of them. Slavery was horrible because many slaves were killed trying to escape cruelty, slave trade separated people from their family’s and never got to see them again, and they didn’t have any rights as a human.
Throughout World History, many atrocious and abominable things have happened to human beings throughout time. Babies have been slaughtered in wars, people have been killed by severe natural disasters, and people have even been eaten by cannibals. But nothing seems to come close in comparison to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and what those people had to toil through. They were mercilessly beaten, branded, and even considered less than human by their fellow humans. The slaves of this horrific time in American History, from the 1400s to the 1860s, went through possibly the worst tribulation in human history. Although slavery was more of an economic institution, was the brutal treatment of slaves in the Americas necessary to keep them in line?
Equiano talks about when he first arrived on the coast; he first saw a slave ship. He says he was immediately handled and tossed up to see if he was sound, and he felt that he would be killed. During the boat ride, the enslaved people faced harsh conditions. He states, “ One White man particular I saw, when we were permitted to be on deck, flogged for unmercifully with large rope near the foremast, that he dies consequence of it; and they tossed him over the side as they would done a brute ” (Equiano, 49). This evidence demonstrates how the enslaved people were even treated worse than animals. These overseers did not care if the lives of these enslaved were in bad conditions or not. All they cared about was making money out of them. The lives of the Enslaved people did not matter because they were perceived as less than human.
Overall, all these factors about the treatment of slaves only indicated that slavery was a mental terminal institution that institutionalized individuals because of their racial tones associated with their African ancestry in society during these early centuries. For these slave masters it was just a business but for these slaves is was a life they couldn't run from. While there is still significant cases of forced labor and mistreatment, overall over next few decades rights were started to be put in place to alienate some of these inhumane conditions against the enslaved Africans and make life a little more better and to improve their living conditions. Finally the most important thing that can be said about slavery is that these enslaved
They would obtain scares physically as well as mentally. The slaves were treated like they were nothing. They were treated like a piece of meat and not a human being. They were probably called the N word multiple times while being tortured. Using the N word is disrespectful.
All around the world there has been some forum of slavery, but nothing has been more devastating than how the slaves were treated in North America. Majority of the slave cruelty of slaves happened in the southern areas. “Nothing that has happened to men in modern times has been more significant than the buying and selling of human beings out of Africa into America from 1441 to 1870.” W.E.B. Du Bois. Yes, the slave buying and selling was immoral but how these people were forced to live day by day was inhumane. They were forced to live in small dirt floor cabins, and on top of the cabins being small they had to share the small cabins with other families. The slaves were also forced to work long and laborious days, they bare had time to rest especially
The slaves were treated like animals, they had terrible living conditions and they were whipped daily for things they didn’t do. Slaves rebelled and tried to run away but most of the time they would be caught and beaten often to death. Some, however, did make it to a state where slavery was outlawed, and they would continue their lives as free as they could.
European slavery was terrible compared to other slavery's like muslim slavery, it was just as bad as the holocaust in many people's opinions. In muslim slavery they had
With the beginning of the slave trade, the Portuguese took over ten million slaves from Africa. Africa’s economy collapsed very low, leaving most of the continent without the essential needed far as people for labor and the creative craftsmen and artisans. 20% of the slaves died during the transportation due to sickness or were either thrown off the boat from being disobedient. After making their way to the Americas, the slaves were taught a new religion or belief from the Europeans. They claimed that Africans were destined to be slaves and that they shouldn’t have equality as the others. After years earlier, they ruled out imprisonment saying it’s wrong. Africans help build the Americas and other parts of the Caribbean countries. The treatment
One negative factor of colonial life was the treatment of slaves. Being a slave was very hard and brutal. Since farming cash crop was hard colonist bought slaves to do the work. According to U.S history.com, the starts worked from sunup to sundown six days a week and had food “not suitable for an animal to eat.” Many masters treated their slaves horribly making them work hard with little clothing or food. Also many treated and hurt them leaving them with life time of injuries. In the text, “tied his hands and gave him one hundred lashes on his bare back, because he lacked three pounds of his task, which was valued at six cents." ().This shows how brutal the masters were just for a little thing. The masters berated their slaves just for
Slavery is a huge aspect of mistreatment. Thankfully slavery is illegal in every country now. Though it is said to be illegal small acts of it still happens today. Slavery is not like before where one person owns another person, but, forced labor. In the past slaves were owned by people and forced into labor, they were also able to be bought by others. Today slaves are still forced into labor this typically occurs as a form of paying off debt. Whether its slavery in the form of one owning another or slavery in the form of forced labor they are both brutal acts of
