Human trafficking is the modernized version of slavery that involves force, fraud, and/or a type of labor in a sexual act. The United States government defines it to be “In which a sex act is forced in which the person induced has not yet been attained eighteen years of age” (National Institute of Justice). Human trafficking is a threat to all nations and promotes breakdown of families and can support organized crime. Trafficking can occur everywhere. Human trafficking and human smuggling are related to one another, but different crimes. The difference between smuggling and trafficking is that smuggling is the illegal movement of someone across a border while trafficking is the illegal exploitation of a person.
Author Peter Andreas explains that a "wide range of smuggling practices" has been part of the "cross-border economic exchange since the nineteenth century," and hence the present-day smuggling of drugs across the border into the United States is not at all a new phenomenon (Andreas, 2012, p. 29). In fact Andreas explains that the economic relationship between the United States and Mexico "…was founded on smuggling," and today (as drugs move from south to north) things are opposite of what they were two hundred or so years ago when the smuggling went from north to south (Andreas, 29).
criminal groups operating from Mexico smuggle cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamines, and marijuana into the United States.
Human trafficking has been entwined into the structure of governments, arms trade, drug trade, and even spreads as far as terrorism. For many years it has been a fact that the money that has been made by selling other humans to the highest bidder. It is also known that the organized crime operations generate one of the most profitable resources to the organization. These organizations use this money for theirs or other’s crime and end up in the hands of drug lords. Drug lords, in order to promote their own business give money to support terrorist groups and activities. Security after September 11, 2001 has recognized human trafficking as a national and international security risk.
Trafficking in human beings is now the fastest-growing business of organized crime. Men, women and children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders. More than one person is smuggled across a border every minute which is the equivalent to ten jumbo jets every single day. And the trade earns twice as much as the Coca Cola brand. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014)
According to this treaty, dry port of Lahore (Pakistan) can easily accessible to Afghanistan for trading purpose and Afghanistan can use this port for trading goods to India. During late 90s and early 2000s, there was a huge trading of different good and services from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Economists find that the chief reason for this massive trading between these two neighbouring countries is that they share common border with each other. A smooth road name Torkhum Highway connects Pakistan with Afghanistan. From Peshawar, one of the major cities of Pakistan, Afghanistan is just 4-5 hours’ drive. Therefore it is very easy to trade goods and services to Afghanistan. Freight cost is minimum due to which Pakistani products are sold at lower prices in Afghanistan and because of lower prices the demand for Pakistani products is very in
Exports and imports, which typically defines foreign trade, are the exchange of goods and services between nations and countries. The expression “send out” intends to do or offer abroad while as “import” is to convey in or purchase from abroad. There are numerous purposes behind exporting and importing. For instance, nations send out products on the off chance that it is one of the world’s couple of suppliers, in the event that it delivers the stock at a lower expense than alternate nations, or if it’s merchandise are popular on account of its extraordinary quality. While as a nation imports on the off chance that it does not have the sure item. The United States has laws regarding what’s imported; however, the United States government should regulate imports more heavily because it increases job opportunities, provides a variety of clothing from different countries and drastically increases revenue.
Human smuggling is one of the fastest growing global crimes but it is hard to decipher between human smuggling and trafficking in person which is also a fast growing intercontinental crime. Human smuggling is “the facilitation, transportation, attempted transportation or illegal entry of a person(s) across an international border, in violation of one or more country’s laws, either clandestinely or through deception, such as the use of fraudulent documents.” During the process of smuggling some of the people are going voluntarily, to meet with their family, or to relocate to a better environment. Once the people reach they destination, they’re no longer in contact with the smuggler that brought them there for
In this regard, the policies have resulted in the perpetration of far worse crimes across the supply chains, as traffickers and dealers attempt to control the market due to its highly lucrative returns. Here, such individuals and gangs partake in organized crimes involving a lot of violence, smuggling, corruption and oppression of societies to gain control of the markets. This has resulted in the deaths and injury of thousands of people over the years, accompanied by the economic and social suffering of communities across the
“Smuggling of migrants has been defined by the United Nation as the procurement, in order to obtain, directly or indirectly, a financial or other material benefit, or the illegal entry of a person into a State Party of which the person is not a national or permanent resident.” If the individual pays for his transportation from exiting and entering the country and if he decides that he wants to cut ties with his transporter, then he has been smuggled. Illegal immigrants and trafficked victims try to approach someone to help them enter another country and the smuggled people pay the entire fee they owe to enter the country while the trafficked victims pay a percentage for the trip and remain in debt which puts them in the hands of a traffickers because they will have to pay the money they owe by working as a sex slave. When you travel to another country with a vise to visit family, work and study and if the visa expires they become an immigrant. Even if they travel to a different part of the country without legal documents or passport, they end up seeking help from smugglers and traffickers to enter the country illegally. When you are illegal you are in more danger to becoming exploited into trafficking and they are usually exploited until they pay off their debt which in a lot of cases that never happens, only if the person is rescue, escaped or died. The huge difference between smuggled victims and human trafficking victims is that the smugglers are allowed to leave and find another job, unlike the human trafficking victims don’t have that opportunity and they have to stay there to repay their debt, to get their documents or else they
Drug trafficking is the worldwide illegitimate trade, which involve the cultivating, producing, distributing and the selling of materials that are subject to the drug proscription laws. There are a number of drugs which are trafficked into the United States. These include, but are not limited to heroin, marijuana and cocaine. The system of drug trafficking in the United States as well as in other countries and continents remains very complex. Although the government and non-government bodies have set important laws to exclude the practice, drug trafficking has been a disturbing problem for many years. Many people who venture into this dangerous and prohibited business do it in search for money. It has been a belief that drug trafficking gives people a

Human smuggling is the transporting of a person “across an international border” (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 572) this also includes the attempt to bring another person normally into another country and the people enter illegally. These types of people are not normally being forced but rather have paid to be ‘snuck in’. Many do this to escape wars in countries, to be brought into another country to be with family member that are already there. They normally also have fake passports or paperwork. Some of the ways that people are smuggled are not safe and some end up dying along the way, or they are caught and returned to their own country by law enforcement.
