According to Cummings and Worley (2015), the three different approaches on chapter 14 focuses on the “work design to create jobs and work groups that generate high level of employee fulfillment and productivity. Work design has been applied and researched extensively in organizations” (p. 403). When work is designed to fit all the factors for the organization, it is both satisfying and productive for the employees and the organization. As an employee, working for an organization that focuses on the employee fulfillment is fundamental in maintaining employee morale and retention. The first approach is the engineering approach, which “focuses on efficiency and simplification, and results in traditional job and work-group designs. Traditional jobs involve relatively routine and repetitive forms of work, where little interaction among people is needed to produce a service or product” (p. 404). This approach has been applied to previous call center jobs like Cigna Healthcare, a health insurance company and Family Healthcare Network, a chain of community clinics for low income families. The engineering design allows workers to learn tasks rapidly; they permit …show more content…
405). In addition, this approach is divided by two factors, a “motivator”. Work attributes such as, meaningfulness, responsibilities and recognition. The second factor is “hygiene factors”, which impact that overall necessities and results of the organization. This approach is factored in with banks like Bank of America. Tellers are motivated to counter sell products to customers and are rewarded at the end of each month when reaching targeted incentives. Holding a banking job gives the employee a huge sense of responsibility and
I graduated high school back in 1994. I was engaged to be married in just two years, and even though I joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard right after graduation it was only one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. So I needed a full-time job. A friend of the family knew a guy who was opening a second store, and was going to need a store manager. I took the job and got started. What I didn’t know was the guy I was just hired to work for was a little confused as to what he wanted. I hung onto the job for a little over a year hoping it would turn around but, no dice.
The purpose of this journal entry is to choose a career in which I find interesting from a list titled: Health Communication Professions, and provide a description of what a person in that particular career does, the kinds of organizations it would be practiced, and the educational preparation need for such a career, then answer if this career would be one for me, and why or why not. Although many of the links on the list did not open, I gravitated something community based or Public Health related. I chose Public Health Communication Specialist, as public health is that which promotes and protects the health of the community or place where people work, live, and play.
Have you ever felt unappreciated in a job? Do you feel on edge that at any given moment you could be replaced? Or has someone you are supposed to trust to put down your efforts? An effective leader should make sure you aren't left wondering these questions. I have worked in the special education department at a high school for three years under the guidance of the principal. During that time I have not been told that I am doing a good job or given any recognition. I am not alone because the majority of the department share the same feelings. Instead of mentoring us into the type of employees he desires he makes these negative comments. With no justification, since he rarely takes time to visit our classrooms, he has called us a “toxic department” and has repeatedly said “we should just start with a clean slate”. In the beginning I tried to approach him however, he
For the summer of 2015, I enrolled as a student in University of Maryland University College (UMUC) to start the journey of earning a bachelor's degree in Cyber Security. For the starting course requirements, Writing 101s was one of the three classes I had picked to begin with. When I first started off in this course, I considered my writing skills poor, with unorganized paragraphing and horrible grammar skills. Now, I am able to write great with more organized essays, proper sentence structures, and also gained researching skills for future research projects or assignments. This course has dramatically increased my confidence in writing and I feel that I am able to write at college level and not middle or high school.
To begin with, part of my job is to write or compose programming code which is systematically on it's own. Provided that, as part of the team conducted the measurement. The project that I can think of as the most broad case where we applied a scientific method throughout the organization was the search for proper and efficient solution to handle incoming support request sent to the IT department. Prior to implementing the ticketing system, IT support request are posted via email through an email group that includes all members of the IT department. This has been the standard procedure for years, it has worked well and preferred by many staff. That said, our organization has hired several employees, redefined departments and increase individual
Our company’s Continuity Management Program (CMP) dictates that the business adheres to an annual testing program. The program does utilize the guidelines from the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). The Continuity Management team has written and scripted into our process to incorporate our Tabletop Exercise’s (TTX’s). Our annual process is to test each of our business units for resiliency. TTX’s allows for us to open up discussions and dialogues focusing on many different areas in the event we need to declare. Also, the exercises aid in discovering any gaps and working through each tier of the recovery process. Our business lines have Recovery Time Objectives (RTO’s) starting at 1 hour up to 72 hours. During the TTX’s we cover the business impact analysis (BIA’s ) and each of the RTO’s.
This week’s lesson in forum 1 each onlinemate was to submit a thread in response to 5 questions after reading chapters 1 thru 3, plus show how a biblical worldview be applied. Also, according to the grading rubric for week 2 we are told to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. One of the thread I have chosen to give a reply to is Bernice Flores. The response to this forum will be based on 2.08 Discussion in the Publication manual of the American psychological association (APA), sixth edition (2013, p.35) and two premises on which sampling theory is based; the characteristics of accuracy and precision for measuring validity (Cooper & Schindler, 2014).
I am a math major student. Since I am doing pretty well on math and joined the practice session for the Putnam competition when I was in my freshman year, I enrolled in Math Advanced Track program. In the advanced track program, I have access to all math honors courses and I can require to override math courses without meeting requirements. At the end of the first semester, I got a chance to work for a professor in the math department. This is my first formal research on mathematics, which makes me very exciting. Since I am good at Matlab, I am doing computer programming and started to learn SDP. SDP is the core algorithm in the research. In addition, I take 2 math honors courses per semester, plus taking Putnum session and have 2 clubs. I am the president of the MSU Aikido club and member of the MSU MMA club. And my GPA is 3.9 cumulatively.
On July 1, 2015 I purchased a large drink, a small fry, and a cheeseburger with no onions. It was around 8pm there wasn’t very many workers there at the time. I explained to the cashier the reason why I did not want any onions. I was being nice and it seemed like she was concerned. At the same time she looked as if she was upset.
Even though not everyone on the team completed their tasks by the due date time, but we all managed to complete this week assignment. Keyna did not to complete her assigned tasks on time because she did not receive all the materials she needed to complete her tasks. This is due to Rashaad having problem adding his document to Google Docs. We only communicate via emails; meeting was not set up for this project. We can't communicate effectively due to time zone limitations.

There are several leaders that I have admired in my career over the years. One in particular that stood out was a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force who I served under. He was a very intelligent and vibrant leader who placed importance in military customs and core values. He was one whom I emulated in the military because of his task –motivated leadership style. He focused on the goals of the organization with the emphasis on service before self. The implications of his style of leadership lead me to believe that there was little to no relationships formed with lower ranking airmen. He was always able to get the job done because of the driven culture he represented. I learned a wealth of knowledge and information from this particular leader; I was able to create a balance by embracing his style of leadership and relating it with my style, transformational leadership. I believe it was successful, because of my efforts to focus in on the mission and create a balance in inspiring, influencing, and motivating Airmen across the globe.
Something interesting about me is that for 4 years in the marching band I played the saxophone. It is during those years I learned how to properly communicate with other students working in a large group to accomplish our shared musical goals. Eventually I would end up in a leadership role during my senior year of high school it’s during this time I learned the importance of dividing personal relationships and from leadership role. Often during my leadership role, I found myself at conflict due my personal friendships with other band students in the organization. Additionally, I listen to classical music, using photo editing software, and using different programming languages. The results from my TypeFocus were the following: ‘I’ introversion, ‘S’ sensing, ‘T’ thinking, and ‘J’ judgement. I will honestly say I did not learn not anything new from the taking the assessment about myself and the careers I will likely enter. Even more the assessment just confirmed everything that I’ve known about myself like how tend to be more introvert often takes me a while to open up personally to most individuals.
The employer focuses on satisfying the needs of the employees while the employees work complete their various task in a manner in which to reduce cost for the employer. This is a win-win situation in which employees and employer are both satisfied. Employee satisfaction in turn reduces the likelihood of employee turnover. Mountain Bank would need to implement this strategy to ensure that not only its employees but its frontline employees, the tellers, are satisfied with their job. If they are satisfied then they have a higher chance of building a stronger bond becoming loyal longtime employees which reduces the cost to Mountain Bank in the long run.
