Does literature accurately reflect society? Through the works of novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and film, Forest Gump it is depicted that with The American Dream, literature does accurately reflect society. Details such as, Huckleberry Finn’s quest for freedom and Forest Gump’s journey to a successful life through hard-work, sacrifices and risks show how The American Dream is depicted in the two works. The involvement of The American Dream in both The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Forest Gump displayed throughout the works make it evident how literature accurately reflects society.

His goal was to escape from civilization and he wanted to live his life with no rules. When he was living with Miss Watson and the Widow Douglas they would attempt to civilize him which was the completely what he did not want to be and when he was with his father Pap he felt as if he was being treated poorly. Huck was not happy in the situation he was in with Miss Watson, Widow Douglas, and Pap. He felt as if they were all too controlling of him with too many rules. Huck saw an opportunity to run away when he faked his death to escape from his father. All Huck wanted was to be free to do whatever he wanted, when he wanted. Huck’s “American Dream” can be portrayed as escaping from reality to a better life where he is in control of his own faith. Forest Gump:

Explanation – Early on his life Forrest was faced with many difficulties. His mom reminds him that with his new-found success he should forget all the negative experiences he may have had to overcome.
