HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Human Trafficking is the second fastest increasing criminal industry today, after the illegal drug industry, and is commonly referred to as "modern-day slavery”. The international, legal definition of human trafficking is ‘using someone by force or deception for the purpose of exploiting them for economic or personal gain.’ (From prescha.org) It is simply the illegal trade of human beings- for example, most commonly kidnapping, abducting, or lying to others to use them for prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery, and the removal of organs. The trafficker’s purpose of this is to earn an economic or personal profit.
There are various ways people can become Human Traffickers. Many women and children are kidnapped into slavery. Some children are sold to traders by their parents so they are able to earn money, or are sent with a radar by their parents, after being told they will receive a good education, or a good job and to live in a better community with improved sanitation, food etc. Often, the traffickers themselves are well known locals and are trusted by the parents or children.
Human Trafficking is an extremely fast increasing crime, with a $32 billion (US dollars) industry. An
