The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The clinical engineering at Victoria Hospital is an important branch of the hospital team management that are working to strategies ways to improve quality of service and lower cost repairs of equipments. If I were to give each of you $100 right now, wouldn’t you be happy? (Attention) Well I can’t do that. This is because even when something seems free, there is always a net financial investment. This is clearly seen through the volunteers of the hospital. Today I will show you the financial impact that a volunteer has on the hospital and patient experience. (General Purpose) We will look at the costs of running a volunteer program, the financial return volunteers provide, and the invaluable impact on the patient experience in a hospital. (Preview)
When most people think of Christmas, they think of family, presents, and happiness. Christmas day in 2012 was very different for Phoenix and his family. At just seventeen months old, Phoenix became a patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. He was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a cancerous tumor that affects the eyes. Five year old Phoenix had no control over his eyes, and the average child should have full control by age one. After months of undergoing chemotherapy, Phoenix’s cancer was in remission. “Physically he’s doing good, emotionally he’s doing good”, said Pamela. “I know St. Jude is the reason he has both his eyes. I tell everyone everywhere I go, St. Jude is amazing. I know God has to be in the midst of it. I don’t think I would have my grandson if we had not gotten to St. Jude” (Qtd. in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital).
Outpatient services are medical procedures that do not requires an overnight stay. Outpatient usually cost less because many procedures and tests are done in few hours. The following are the outpatient facilities that I would considered for employment; urgent care clinic, rehabilitation center, and doctor’s office.
1. Using the historical data as a guide (Exhibit 6.1), construct a pro forma (forecasted) profit and loss statement for the clinic's average month for all of 2010 assuming the status quo. With no change in volume (utilization), is the clinic projected to make a profit?
Should the United States have Universal healthcare? Healthcare is a huge part of everyone's daily lives, from receiving check-ups, to acquiring care for medical emergencies such as cancer, or other things we can not control. Sadly, these services all cost an absorbent amount of money and a lot of insurance plans may not cover all services. Many people die from not receiving the proper medical care they need. High out of pocket expenses can force people into medical bankruptcies. These problems would not occur if the United States would have Universal Healthcare. Having Universal Healthcare will result in many benefits. Everyone would have access to the care they need, the government would pay for the services, and the services would still
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, founded in 1962, is a pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children’s catastrophic diseases. The hospital costs about $2 million a day to run no family ever pays for their child to go to St. Jude. I chose this organization because St. Jude does a remarkable job taking care of children in need. If I ever volunteer at a hospital, St. Jude would be at the top of my list along with Children’s Medical Center.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center was founded in 1884 as New York Cancer Hospital on Manhattan’s upper west side by a group that included John J. Astor and his wife, Charlotte. According to WebMD they stated that in 1899, the name was changed to General Memorial Hospital for the treatment of cancer and allied diseases. In 1916, the word “General” was dropped and the new name became Memorial Hospital for the treatment of cancer and allied diseases. In 1936, the hospital began a move to their present location on York Avenue, on land that was donated by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and the new Memorial Hospital opened in 1939. The building, which was reconstructed between 1970 and 1973, stands on the site

A healing hospital is a healing community providing radical loving care (Journal of Sacred Work, 2009) in a safe environment that focuses on human interaction, interpersonal caring and enhancing the wellbeing of patients, caregivers, and all other members of the healing community. While a healing hospital is, of course, dedicated to providing excellent medical care to its patients (Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, 2012), it is also dedicated to integrating work design and technology (Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, 2012), and ultimately to the overall wellness of every healing community member. Using physical healing, education and supportive human interaction, this care model seeks healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels for everyone involved in the process (Zarren, n.d., pp. 1-2). The success of this model requires the cooperation of every

The main characteristics of a non profit hospital are first and foremost to give good to the public. The term good can be broken down to different categories such as good services and provides health education to the public as a matter of good services. A non profit hospital also has to meet up requirements with the IRS about every 3 years or so. Additionally to this such hospitals need meet other requirements that measure the quality of the health services given to the public.
The problem at Memorial Hospital is the focus on costs instead of health care. When a health care provider does not take the primary business as the core value of the operation and make strategic and tactical decisions based primary on costs, it decreases the consumers’ (patients) satisfaction in long run. As consumers reduce or stop purchasing goods and services from the hospital, hospital may make more cost oriented decisions and falls into a negative cycle. Eventually the hospital may face the fate of loosing business to competitors and the possibility of closing the door.
