Katniss put her own life on the risk to try to get medicine for him to live, neither Katniss or Peeta gave up in the situation. The purpose of this story is to inform the reader about the truth of what war can do to a country. Look what happened after WW1 and WW2, lots of deaths and the aftermath of the wars were terrible for everyone. The amount of lives lost in those two wars are beyond high. The effects on the countries and the families that were involved, were unrepairable. The author made a great argument on how war can ruin lives, and even whole countries. Imagine what would happen if we go to war again with big countries. The authors work was very effective on reaching out to the audience she wanted. I don’t believe her purpose was effective on reaching out to that audience. Not many kids would understand that the purpose for writing this story would be about the effects of war. I believe they would think it was about entertainment, or romance. The first time I read this book I never really understood it, but now I understand it completely, now that I’m older. This story could have been a little objective, because it is a fictional story and isn’t based on a certain opinion. The story actually does support both sides. In the story the nation is ruled by one person,”Snow” he is the ultimate ruler, with complete power. The nation is in the aftermath of a long war a
Can you imagine the feeling knowing that at anytime, a close one could be taken away. A best friend could be stolen. A family member could be killed. Even yourself could be sacrificed for nothing. Do you think that the emotions a family member may encounter, the sadness of an entire community, or even just the thought of dying, is worth it to provide a dominant government their “Hollywood ending”? Well, in the book “The Hunger Games” written by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen lives in a dystopian society where her community is divided by 13 different groups. Each year, their government randomly selects two participants from each group to play in the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death among the other participants. In the book, Katniss’
In the history of cinema, most movies involving a hero 's journey involve mostly the same plot; man gets a call, goes on a journey, gets in a battle or two, and saves the helpless woman from some evil source. The Hunger Games has the same plot as other hero films, but takes a complete turn on the actor encompassing the hero. The hero in this film is a Katniss Everdeen, a poor girl from a dystopian society. In this film Katniss volunteers for her sister to be in the Hunger Games, which is an event where individuals are thrown into an arena where people from twelve districts fight each other to the death for entertainment. Katniss must win the hunger games and make it back to her family. Katniss eventually befriends Peta and they defeat all obstacles and win the Hunger Games together. The Hunger Games is a perfect example of a hero 's journey plot. It follows the steps that any hero journey movie would, including the call, crossing the threshold, a supreme ordeal, companions and mentors, a transformation and the end gift. This film encompasses the classic hero journey plot, with an exception of having a strong female lead instead of male.
The Hunger Games, the movie, was adapted from the popular young adult novel by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is sometimes described as another cliche love story for which the young adult genre is infamous. Despite appearances, The Hunger Games illustrates a complex and creative dystopian world with a much deeper underlying message, including topics such as, politics, history, and celebrity worship. The setting appears to be a futuristic version of America. This future America is very classist, and the tyrannical government is sure to keep the classes divided by heavily oppressing the working class. The working class is divided into twelve districts, which used to be thirteen districts until the thirteenth district was annihilated as a result of its uprising. In response to the thirteenth district’s resistance, the President created a game called “The Hunger Games” in an effort to instill obedience in the remaining twelve districts. Through the course of the movie, we learn that “The Hunger Games” are not only a mechanism to force obedience on the working class, but also to serve as entertainment for the elite society who live in the Capitol. The Games require 24 randomly selected children from the working class districts to fight to the death in an elaborately staged battle, all of which is filmed and broadcasted to the entire nation, working class and elite alike. Thesis: The Hunger Games, the movie, has a hauntingly feasible storyline and clear references to real
The Wars, written by Timothy Findley, is a story about World War I, and consists of many shocking images passed over to the reader. Findley accomplishes to pull the reader into the narrative itself, so that the reader manages to feel an impact upon him/her-self about what is read. If it was not for this specific skill, or can also be seen as a specific genre, the novel would not have been as successful as it is now. Also, something that helps the book be so triumphant, there is the fact that Findley never overwhelms the reader with too many gruesome details about the World War I. Instead, he breaks the book down to help the reader calm down from everything that is happening. Throughout the essay, there is going to be some commenting on a
She is on the verge of tears, but doesn’t allow herself to cry because she thinks she will appear weak. Haymitch congratulates her and dives off stage. Peeta is chosen, and she thinks of the day all those years ago, when he gave her the bread, when she saw the dandelion.
I awake with a jolt from a restless sleep, my heart pounding. I am filled with fear at the thought of today's events, and my body begins to shake.
In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character

District 12 provides coal but is also the poorest district. Everyone lives off of small animals they can catch. In order to survive, Katniss hunts on illegal land to provide for her mom and her sister, Prim. Every year the Capitol holds an event called the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is were two tributes from each district come to an arena and
Nearly 37 million military personnel and civilian bystanders lives were taken during the Great War.(How many People Died in WWI).The negative and positive aspects of the war can severely change ones outlook on life. Due to the war, over the course of the novel’s five books, Lt. Frederic Henry’s views and feelings for many attributes in this life undergo drastic changes. His once optimistic view on the war turned bleak, and his once close group of friends soon began to drift apart due to Henrys hectic life.
was dark, the main priority was to create more shadows to make a more suspenseful tone. Suzanne’s hit novel The Hunger Games Part 1, the book shows us the danger of a dystopian society. The novel takes place in the future in which there are 13 districts.
In The Hunger Games the Capitol is a place of vast wealth while the districts especially the districts of eleven and twelve are living in poverty. This wealth that the Capitol has it a type of social control because it keeps the districts from being able to gain the ability to fight back against the Capitol due to their poverty status. The poverty in the districts is so bad that Katniss Everdeen from District Twelve requires that she break a law of the Capitol’s, which is not leaving the fenced area. She does this in order to keep her and her family from starving to death. Katniss states, “Technically, Gale and I could be whipped on a daily basis for poaching in the woods” (Collins 202-203). This poverty is also seen in District Eleven when Rue says, “I’ve never had a whole leg to myself before” (202). Rue also talks about how they grow food but they are not allowed to eat it. (202) The Capitol makes it illegal to go outside the Districts because it could lead to the Districts to banding together and creating another rebellion and it is a means for Katniss to keep herself fed without relying on the Capitol to survive from starving to death. This is an issue of social control the Capitol is deliberately keeping the Districts hunger to have ultimate power over them. They also have a system called a tesserae which allows the children who are eligible for the reaping to get a “year’s supply of grain and oil for one person” (13). They get his if they put their names in the
The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is set in a dystopian country called Panem. This country is split up into twelve districts, and the districts are lead by the Capitol. Annually, the Capitol forces children of the districts to fight in the Hunger Games until only one child is left alive. The Capitol uses the games to show their power and to discourage the people of Panem to start another war. The games are very entertaining to the people of the Capitol, and the whole country is required to watch on television. Even though this seems unusual to enjoy watching children fight to their death, this idea has been around for thousands of years.
In 2008, Suzzane Collins’ published “The Hunger Games,” which takes place in an undefined future of the United States. This new country is known as Panem, which once held thirteen districts and the Capital; now, it only holds twelve districts and the capital. District Thirteen is the reason why Panem has a yearly event called the Hunger Games. District Thirteen started a war in an attempt to overthrow the Capital. In return, the Capital demolished all of District Thirteen.
