I have always found the ocean to be a very intriguing part of the Earth. There are infinitely many discoveries that have yet to be made about it. My fascination with the ocean sparked the idea to do my class paper on hurricanes and what they are along with their effects. I remember hearing about all the damages from Hurricane Katrina after it hit the coast near New Orleans. The only information I really know about them is what is briefly covered on the news. I thought it would be interesting to discover the true effects they can have on not only people that endure them, but also the environment as it gets ripped to shreds by the plethora of winds and water.

All of a sudden it started to storm hard then the wind got stronger all of a sudden it started pouring people that were watching the news had alarms going off. State and Federal agencies can be a primary source of information and assistance during and following a natural disaster. Here are some websites that offer a wide range of information, both general and specific, that you may find useful in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey:
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most “destructive storms ever to strike the United States”. In August 2005, the hurricane started off as a tropical storm in the Caribbean Sea. Then it picked up speed and hit Florida in the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall near the Louisiana and Mississippi border on Aug. 29, 2005. The hurricane brought lots of winds, huge waves, and a lot of flooding that caused a lot of damage in Florida and widespread destruction in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The storm killed approximately 1,800 people, and caused about 100 billion dollars in damage. It left hundreds of thousands of people homeless. New Orleans, which lies below sea level, suffered some of the worst damage out of all the states that were
“Hi this is Sage Woodard with 9 news and I am In the middle of Hurricane Harvey. This hurricane is just hitting landfall and who know the destruction of this monstrous storm can tear up. Many tears fill my eyes as I see this horrible sight, there are so many struggling people and animals and yet there are brave souls that are willing to help those in need. The storms, heavy rains are coming down like a lot of tiny, taring, little needles. The winds are so fast that it is faster than one, million race cars and it sounds like a head of elephants.”
Hurricane Harvey was a dramatic disaster because it was a category 4 storm that hit Texas and went through Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. It had wind speeds up to 130 mph. This dangerous storm began on August 17,2017 and ended on September 3, 2017. The cost of the damages was about 200 billion dollars. Katrina destroyed many things. Over 1,800 lost their lives to Katrina. A hurricane this bad people would have to evacuate which they did but apparently some people were too late. It left so many people without homes nowhere to go unless they have family somewhere else, but still people lost all their stuff and maybe even animals.
Sitting out this year has been a roller coaster I was affected by Hurricane Harvey. During this past year, I also, began my employment with the Department of Homeland Security. I never would have imagine working for a federal agency. I worked in the mass care department and also Public Assistance as well. In my role with mass care I lead a team of 10 members together we provided assistance to over 1,000 Hurricane Harvey survivors. Looking fellow survivors in the eye and helping them rebuild their lives knowing that I too am a survivor of Hurricane Harvey helped me grow as a person. This experience gave me strength through the storm.
As people take shelter in terror, Hurricane Harvey struck the ground like never before. The days Aug. 13- Sep. 3 2017 a massive hurricane , one of the worse, had hit the U.S. Many people were forced out of there homes and evacuated. Hurricane Harvey was very devastating and destructive.
“Based on Irma’s projected path, which includes Florida’s heavily populated eastern coast, the enormous storm could create one of the largest mass evacuations in US history,” CNN senior meteorologist Dave Hennen said. Hurricane Irma is the most powerful storm to have been recorded, its wind has reached a speed of 185 mph and gusts at 225 mph. Families are having to evacuate their homes and go to a safe place to ensure their safety. We determine how severe a hurricane is by a category of one through five, Irma is at category 5! People's homes are being demolished and six people have been reported dead. Irma has caused 95% of the Caribbean island to be destroyed.
The article, The science behind Hurricane Mathew’s unexpected course change shows that Hurricane Matthew occurred on the first week of October in 2016 and hit Haiti-North Carolina. The article I read was about was mainly about, how Hurricane Matthew affected community’s, states, people, and animals and how this was all started. According to my article, this event occurred when warm ocean water in the Atlantic ocean, Caribbean sea, and Gulf of Mexico mixed with enough moist air to create a tropical storm then a variation of wind speed and direction (a wind shear) hit the ground which made Hurricane Matthew form. Based
