I hate looking at myself in the mirror because all I can see is shame and guilt. There came a time where I felt depressed. I felt like I looked different than the others. I started to look at everything in a negative way. At that time food was the only thing that helped me cope through that phase. I kept eating one piece of junk food after another. All these things just made it worse for me to get over this phase. I didn’t feel confident about who I was as a person. Soon, I realized that I had to turn that all around at one point. Starting to live a healthy lifestyle was my only hope. According to the World Health Organization, Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. A Healthy lifestyle consists of the steps that you take to make your life better/achieve the life you have always wanted. To live a healthy lifestyle means to live your life to the fullest while practicing good habits: mentally physically, and diet wise. Hi Micquaya. When I think of mental health itself, I do not automatically think of people that are suffering from a psychological issue. Mental health to me is just your psychological status. Mental illness causes me to think a psychological issue. The two are not the same in my eyes. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Physical health is just the status but if I were to say a physical disability it is completely different. The ways to promote good mental health are numerous. Taking care of your body is definitely a good way. Many times our mental status is directly related to our physical health. I know for me, it is hard to think clear when I do not get enough sleep.

Stress, bullying, and a person`s environment can have an impact on someone`s mental health. When someone is picked on or looked at for a while they become quiet and scared to say anything or go anywhere because the person is scared to be picked on. For example, in the novel Wonder August, the main character, had a facial problem and everyone looked at him weird. Every time they were outside Auggie or August looked down at the ground and never spoke because his self-esteem was low from the way he was looked at when he was little. How can we help someone with mental problems? Well that’s a good question, one way is to just talk to them and understand. If someone is having mental problems we can encourage them and make them feel better. Kindness can go a long way.
