I hope to demonstrate through this part of the application that I am a worthy candidate for your 2016 scholarship. Throughout my high school and college careers I have been a dedicated student-athlete as well as an involved community member. I played four years of baseball at Broadneck High School including three years on varsity. I also played junior varsity football my freshman year and due to injuries, I moved to managing the varsity football team for three years. My athletic achievements include winning the “Bruin” award for both baseball and football my senior year, which were created in order to recognize someone that meant a large amount to their team. My senior year at Broadneck I was named to multiple award teams including first team coaches all-county, second team capital all-county, and first team all-district 5. My senior year was a stepping stone for me and I was offered roster spots at many division two schools, division three schools, and a few junior colleges. I decided to turn them all down and challenge myself by walking-on at a division one colonial athletic conference school, Hofstra University. I have never been one to choose the easy way out of anything and I knew that this was going to be very tough. I have multiple family ties to Hofstra and felt that it was the perfect school for someone like myself. I finished high school with a 3.41 unweighted GPA and a 3.85 weighted GPA in addition to a 1760 SAT score along with a composite score of the 29 on
Now that I am on an Elite basketball team, I really have grown and learned to push myself more and more everyday. I really value leadership and teamwork, which basketball has taught me. Once I am out of C.W. Perry I am hoping to make a high school basketball team, and maybe even a College or University basketball team. I know that in order to accomplish my goals I will need to work hard and have lots of dedication. In the end goals are just dreams with deadlines.
It feels like everyday I meet people who ask me what college I want to attend. I give them the usual list of colleges I wish to apply to, but when Hofstra University comes up, people ask me, “why do you want to apply to Hofstra University?” I say there are infinite reasons why I wish to go to Hofstra. The number one reason being that it is really close to home. Hofstra is an excellent school - one of the best schools in New York. Hofstra has over a 100 distinct majors and minors to choose from ranging from Biology to Engineering to American Studies. I plan to major in Biology, and Hofstra is the best for my major because it has resources to offer its students giving them hands on experiences. Being an AP student, I love to take arduous classes
Athletics has helped shape who I am as a student and as a person. To be selected for the Carl Montavon Memorial Scholarship would be a great honor that I would feel privileged to receive. Carl Montavon was a huge supporter of athletics among high school students, and I am as well for multiple reasons. Not only have the sports that I have participated in helped me physically and socially, but educationally as well. Participating in multiple sports helped motivate me to keep up my GPA for future college recruiting, and fueled my competitive drive into striving and succeeding to become valedictorian of my high school’s graduating class. Athletics taught me responsibility and respect. Not only do I value others opinions, but I make sure
I demonstrated scholarship by being on Seneca’s Principal's list six out of the eight semesters I have attended so far. The other two semesters I was on the Honor roll. In addition, I finished freshman and sophomore year with a 4.0 GPA. This shows that I am a dedicated student who sees the necessity of having good grades. For service, during the summer of freshman and sophomore
I am a committed and determined individual who works hard to achieve my goals. Besides various athletic accomplishments, I also excel in the classroom maintaining an accumulative 3.95 GPA. This shows I can manage my time well and prioritize. I have also been credited as a great leader on and off the playing
My scholarship can be seen through my grades at Wahconah. My grade point average has not dropped below a ninety-six in my freshman nor my sophomore year. I plan to keep this up heading into my junior year. With having these grades, I know that in the winter of my sophomore year, I was eleventh in my class. I know this because I had to send my transcript to a private school who was interested in me for lacrosse, and gained very much interest seeing my grades. I have kept my grades up while also maintaining a job at Kelly’s Package Store and playing lacrosse all year round. Therefore, my I excel academically at Wahconah and plan to do no different in the future.
I am applying to Hofstra because I believe that the university can help me achieve my goals. From the time I was a young child, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. While there is a long and difficult road ahead of me, I am sure that attending Hofstra University will help me go down that road.
Hello my name is Hannah Hagen, I go to Saint Rose Catholic School. In less than a year I hopefully will be attending Paso Robles High School. I want to participate in the magazine club; I always have loved to interact with others and I love to do creative writing. In my school I give input on each subject, I’m a very vocal person. While others might view that as a negative trait but I think that it is very good to speak your mind and voice your opinion. I volunteer at the local food shelter and feed the hungry. I also participate in volleyball and basketball. I’ve been playing sports my whole life and plan to play different kinds. At my school I participate in the technology program; it is one of my favorite
Brenau University is a well-known school for its academics and sports. The all-girl university has many sports like soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, swim and cross country. The standards to play in this particular private school are statically observed by the coaches. I ran in cross country but I didn’t qualify for full tuition or maybe I could have if I expanded my options or kept running. I have many classmates that played a sport in high school and didn’t get a scholarship. But why? I wanted to see what it takes to be recruited to a private school by meeting up with an athlete that received a full ride to Brenau University.
Moreover, my exposure to an athletic environment for the past 14 years has instilled upon me leadership, discipline, core values, strong work ethics and time management. Accordingly, these components have been instrumental in my academic successes over the course of my educational journey. Furthermore, my strong religious beliefs and strong family support mean everything to me; therefore, I always have the necessary provisions to fight against the many negative challenges athletes encounter in our society. Nevertheless, one challenge still remains in forefront of some people’s mind, the fact that I an African-American man who plays college football, more than likely with mediocre grades. However, on February 1, 2017 at 12:00 p.m., the UTSA Honors College defined me as much more than an athlete. On this day, I was a UTSA Student with a 3.8 G.P.A. and an opportunity for acceptance into the prestigious UTSA Honors College, and by the way, I happened to play football. Over the course of my football career, I continue to encourage and demonstrate leadership and academic excellence as a way
I, De’Ja Sibley, deserve the MoolahSPOT scholarship because I am hard working, consistent, and determined. When I complete high school in May 2017, I will attend Northwestern State University in Louisiana (NSU). I will major in Nursing and further my education after I achieve my four years of college. The MoolahSPOT scholarship will serve me tremendously when pursuing my goal becoming a great student at NSU.
I have been fortunate to be the recipient of untold hours of guidance of my own coaches and mentors. I can only imagine the sacrifices they have made- time away from family and fatigue just to name a couple. As a result of their investment in me, I have had innumerable opportunities, not the least of which will be the opportunity to attend Rice next fall and play baseball for the Owls. I am doing my best to apply the lessons I've learned through Wylie high school sports, to my life and all the lives I touch through service. All of these lessons impacted my life immensely and will follow me through
I believe that I would be a very good candidate to receive a scholarship when attending Saginaw Valley State University. I work extremely hard in order to succeed in my classes. I like pushing myself to continue working hard in my classes in order to get the best grades that I am capable of. I have been a very successful student at Unionville-Sebewaing Area Highschool, and I plan on continuing my success through college. I have a good work ethic. I use my work ethic to do my work to the very best of my ability. I also work extremely hard in order to achieve my goals. My main goal is to be a successful student at Saginaw Valley State University. I want to work hard in order to have a successful and rewarding college career, and to also
The Coastal Bend College Endowed Scholarship Application will be the second scholarship I have applied for because I didn't think about college until my second semester of my senior year when a coach said “you’d be perfect for this job”. After I heard that statement I started looking into studying kinesiology and asking questions about their experiences. Ever since then I have been wanting to become what I think of them, which is a hero. I want to help kids achieve their goals and become someone important. I understand coaches do not get paid a fair amount, but I am willing to accept this fact. To me it is about graduating college and doing something I know I will enjoy for the rest of my life.
When I was a junior in high school, I changed my focus to baseball and joined summer and fall travel teams, as well as my high school team. At South Side High School, I was a top prospect in the area and due to grades, I was unable to join a college on a scholarship.
