I Am My Graduate Career

Good Essays

When I began my undergraduate career, I had no inkling of what I wanted to do in the future. It was early on that I discovered my passion for chemistry, math and physics classes which galvanized my hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was stirred largely by my first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during an American Chemical Society meeting. I was so engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis and piezoelectrics that I walked up to him as soon as the meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group.
I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on-the-job industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know-how, engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many.
My experiences during my undergraduate and professional careers have had profound impacts on me by providing opportunities for self-discovery and allowing me to explore my interests. At the University of Pittsburgh Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program, I hope to explore my interests in nanotechnology, surface chemistry interactions, and
