Social Work My personality type was ESFP. ESFPs love people, telling stories and having fun. They are outgoing, and they love to entertain. Most of the traits that ESFPs generally have describe me, those traits include the following: value people's feelings, independent and resourceful, they hate structure and routine, feel special bond with children and animals, and they have great people skills. The career I have chosen is social work. I feel that my personality would really fit in well with this career. To be in the field of social work you have to be able to connect with people and be able to relate to them and I believe i would do well with that. To be a counselor you would have to of been through hard times and have had experiences in
There are several goals that I hope to achieve by pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work. Pursuing a MSW will provide me with the knowledge, tools, and skills-set that will be fundamental to the achievement my career goals outlined below.
Pursuing a social work career can be very challenging but yet rewarding. In order to provide services for clients, you must have the adequate education and training to assist them. The minimum degree to become a social worker is a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). The bachelor degree prepares graduates for entry-level social work positions. In order to be classified as a social worker, you must obtain degree from a college or university that accredited by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). This degree will prepare you to understand the way the human body and mind function, the role of culture in our society, the impact of the economy and the political system on the lives of the people that social workers serve, and the use of statistical
From a young age, I have always wanted to understand other people’s thoughts and feelings. As I have grown older, I have grown even more curious about not only understanding people, but learning how to help them. With this guiding me, my future career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapists work with a wide variety of people to help them overcome obstacles in their lives in order to achieve a better quality of life. I specifically hope to work with young children, adolescents, and teens who suffer from emotional, mental, or cognitive impairments. This is due to growing up in a family who fostered challenged children, having siblings with their own challenges, and having many young friends who could have benefitted
Holly McNabola is a clinical social worker in North Haven, Connecticut. She received both her BSW and MSW from Southern Connecticut State University. She graduated with honors in 2000. For the past 16 years Holly has had a very diverse experience working with clients who struggle with substance abuse, mental health, medical issues, and more. She provides individual and family therapy and loves what she does.
“What do you want to be when you graduate high school?,” my mother asked me. She has asked me this specific question my entire life but today she wanted an answer. I was seventeen, only a month away until my eighteenth birthday, so it was time for me to make a decision. I told her I did not know and she started to list a bunch of career options I could pursue. She continue to go on and on then, she said Occupational Therapist. My mom described to me what Occupational Therapist did and their job responsibilities. That is when I decided that this is the career for me. I am driven to become an Occupational Therapist because I want to provide for my future family, and to grow spiritually and mentally in the process.
Like other freshmen in college, it was difficult for me to adjust to college atmosphere. Once I comprehended how significant it was for me to get into graduate school I went to tutoring, assembled study groups, and fixed my concentration on my academics.
This course is the second class I take at Simmons College. Therefore, I am not too sure what to expect from the whole experience. All of my formal studies have been in Puerto Rico, thus, making this my “first” academic experience in the USA. I hope to be able to adapt to this new form of studying and make a smooth transition into my graduate years. One of my biggest goals for this course is being able to comprehend and have the ability to appropriately apply the different theories in social work. It is completely understandable that mastering them is not an option at the moment since that is something acquired over time and experience. I have encountered, studied and worked with certain theories in the past but looking back my impression is
As the world expands, new jobs are developed just as frequently as old jobs are destroyed, and we have society and lifestyles to thank for that. So when choosing a career field, you must keep that in mind, which might make it a little tricky. When choosing a career you have many factors to take into consideration such as, but not limited to; salary, hours, locations and most importantly if you are going to love what you do and not feel like you're dragging yourself out of bed every morning to go to work. But besides the great feeling of loving what you do everyday and wanting to do the second most important factor to take in consideration is, to think about what jobs aren't going to be changing anytime soon or have a large decrease in
Why is it that some citizens think that people who work in the field of social work does not need an education or a degree for it? Also, they think is all about having a good heart and a great deal of common sense. I believe that having these traits for this job is part of it since you do need some common sense and a good heart. There are many other requirements that are needed in this career for example psychological and sociology training among others, to be able to understand the differences of human cultures and their races.
I knew that even after I graduate from the masters program that I would like to continue to expand my knowledge through taking various workshops and even volunteering to enhance my social work skills and to be able to serve the clients that I support. This would involve taking advantage of any opportunities to be able to attend any local and regional meetings, conferences and workshops sponsored by professional organization, which may include an organization that I work for or even College of Social Work. For me personally, I finding having experience working in different areas and with different populations to be helpful in understanding of the various complex issues and strategies to combating issues. That is why I am always open to working
Working in the Social Work field has been a great experience. I have learned how to access resource as well as provide my clients with beneficial information that helps them through their particular situations. Expanding my education in social work will allow me to expand my knowledge of the field while giving me the opportunity to be a better advocate for my community. Having a Master’s in Social Work will also give me the opportunity to explore different careers such as my focus as a potential school counselor.
The values and principles of social work captivated me even before I fully understood what the profession entailed. My experience as a 16 year old junior counselor at the Alamance County Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club allowed me to see the importance of empowerment, as well as the necessity of linking marginalized populations to resources. The majority of the children I worked with were minorities with low income. As I developed rapport with the youth, they began to share their struggles (i.e. family issues, academic challenges, and financial struggles), and my heart immediately went out to them. I had always known that I had a passion for helping others, but this experience at the Boys and Girls Club showed me that assisting others was
I am graduating Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health. I decided to study health because the subject is of interest to me personally and professionally. Throughout my coursework in the public health program, I was introduced to numerous problems that face the healthcare industry today as well as health problems on a global scale. When these problems arose in class, I would find myself thinking about ways that I could solve these problems that people were facing in our society. I want to take on health problems and assist children and parents in hospitals with grieving, coping and processing the healthcare system. I wanted to be able to help navigate the rough waters of hospital and healthcare systems. With my knowledge of health and my desire to help people, I want to pursue a career path where I would be able to work one on one with people that are in need of assistance especially with medical decision and aid in the coping process. I am deciding to pursue a Master’s in Social Work because I feel this will best help me move forward with my career goals.
One thing that makes me happy is going to church to play the piano. Spending time with my family makes me happy. Also what makes me happy is going to the mall and buying shoes. Watching YouTube videos on fashion and beauty makes my day. On my free time I like to read books that are mystery and romance. The life I see myself is having my master degree in social worker. I also want to be married and have two kids. I see myself being happy knowing that I have my dream job. The life I see myself is being able to grow old with my husband. The life I see myself in spiritual way is becoming a better daughter and maybe preacher to young teenagers about how they should love themselves. Hopefully I see myself traveling the world one day. The main
Human society has developed to the point it has today due to one over-riding trait, an ability which sets us apart from all other living things – that is the desire and ability to identify and work towards solving problems. Our world today has enormous potential and faces enormous challenges, I aspire to be a part of the process of overcoming those challenges. I believe that research, learning, and creation of knowledge is at the core of the process. I have come to the conclusion that a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley in Management of Organisations is my best pathway towards that. In the following paragraphs, I hope to present my case for acceptance into the program.
