If I were to conclude my education after finishing secondary school, there would not be many fruitful paths ahead of me. Without pursuing further education in post-secondary programs, life would be prolific with simplicity; there are those who advocate the concept of simplicity over challenge, but in a life abounding in simplicity, I see a life of tedium. By enrolling in post-secondary programs, I expose myself to novel challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, I have the freedom to explore my passions and satisfy my ambitions. In my case, I have a passion for biological sciences and knowledge, and a fervent ambition to gain as much relevant knowledge as possible. At a post-secondary institution, I am able to choose the degree that is
My A-Level choices have equipped me with the adequate skills and basic knowledge that I feel are necessary to study a degree in Biomedical Science. In Psychology, I found Biopsychology most fascinating because we learnt about how the Nervous System works alongside the Endocrine System. Equally, I enjoyed Psychopathology as we learnt about the causes and symptoms of diseases such as OCD, and the drug-based biological treatments for them that target hormones such as serotonin. Studying Mathematics has enabled me to achieve a greater understanding of how to apply statistical tests such as the Spearman’s Rank Correlation, in Biology.
I have decided to pursue post-secondary education for various reasons. For instance, I am interested in particular subjects, such as Business and Applied Sciences, and would love to be able to study within these faculties while learning about something that captures my interest. I feel that by attending post-secondary, selecting and building a career would be much easier. After receiving a degree, chances of obtaining a good job with a well-established company will be greater and I hope to one day work as a software engineer for a major company such as Google or Microsoft. Another reason I wish to attend post-secondary is because I wish to help make a change in our world one day. Attending post-secondary will help me gain the knowledge and
Post-secondary school provides more than just preparation for your career, it teaches you real life aspects that will definitely cross your path one way or another in your life. Growing as a person is far more rewarding than any degree a college can grant (Doc F) College is difficult financially, academically, socially, intellectually, and physically. Because of these hardships every day college students face, a common thought is frequently being replayed over and over, “Is this bearing stress really worth it?” It is worth it, and what keeps them going is the light at the end of the tunnel that promises a life with endless opportunities.
Pursuing a post-secondary education is very important because without that extra education you will not be able to get as good of a career as you would with a post-secondary education. With that extra education you have more opportunities of higher paying jobs and healthcare coverage. Also when students go to college they have a chance to listen to the Professors lecture on their personal field of study, so they know what they are talking about. With a college degree you are also open to more promotion opportunities. Also when you go into the college life it is a time where you get a big taste of the real world, you start to be independent, learn to save money and pay bills.
The Integrated Life Sciences Honors program (ILS) is a distinguished two-year living-learning program for students with exceptional academic talents that focuses on preparing students in all aspects of biological research and biomedicine. ILS offers accelerated and advanced education in the life sciences while also emphasizing nationally recognized innovations to the training. Participating in ILS has allowed me to live and work closely with many intelligent and incredible peers, each bringing a different perspective. Furthermore, the unique approach and exclusive courses offered by ILS have helped me to develop a more holistic understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of the
Being of Indian descent, my parents had always pushed me to pursue a degree in Biology. But, I did not personally fall in love with it until my fourth year at Rutgers. I started my freshman year taking courses just to fill the requirements for my degree. I didn’t even declare my major until my third year because my heart nor my mind was focused on what I was doing.
I am pursuing a college education because I want to improve the world and my surrounding community. I want to be a Physician's Assistant after college and without an education, I cannot become what I want to be. PA's practice medicine on teams with other physicians and healthcare providers. This is a great job because I am able to provide for others and use my brain to find answers to health problems. To become a PA, I will need to spend at least six years in college. I love school and will enjoy learning all I need to
My post-secondary educational plan is to study in the medical field to become a Physical Therapist. It will take several years to become a physical therapist. Before I am allowed to practice I would need a graduate degree from certified academic programs in physical therapy. These programs typically in a doctoral degree and take at least three years to complete. To become a PT some of the classes I will need to take are anatomy, physiology, and biology.
Last summer my father and I were able to visit an array of colleges, but none of them felt like home until we went to IIT. The first thing that I noticed when my father and I walked into the IIT campus was the phenomenal architecture. In some regards the campus reminded me of Google, and I was in awe of how it looked. The second thing that I noticed about IIT is how friendly the tour guides, students, and coaches were. My father and I had the pleasure to meet the tennis coach, who was very accommodating and pleasant. After our talk with him I decided that this was the college I wanted to attend because I would be able to further my academics and athletics in the best way. The last thing that made me want to attend IIT was the education that
I am fascinated by the science of life, especially pertaining to animals. In my high school classes, AP Biology is probably the most engaging as I am endlessly curious about how living things work. New to me this year, I have started taking preparation classes for Brown’s Brain Bee. Though it’s very basic, I love learning about the neuroscience that is taught during those classes. The body’s control center is fascinating to me as it is complex. Animals are very interesting creatures and studying about what makes an individual so interesting is what I want to focus on in college. Also, with the intention of becoming a doctor, both of these areas of study are very pertinent to my future goals.
One of the most challenging hurdles I had found myself in during my undergraduate education was not knowing what I have wanted to do with my career once I had step out of the university sphere of education. Although, having spent my time within the undergraduate studies of Women’s Gender and Sexualities Studies and Human Development and Family Studies, I had not been a leisurelier discovery for myself. One of my personal struggle that I had encountered when it came to my undergraduate education was not having a clear focus of what the notorious question, “what do you want to do with your life?”. For the longest time, I had always thought that to be successful at the university level was having an education in the science technology programs. I had struggled with keeping my grades where I wanted them to be, feeling successful, and overall enjoy my college experience and feeling that I belonged to the University of Connecticut. That was until I had taken a Women’s Gender and Sexualities course at the University of Connecticut. I had found that there was more to school than having a science background of education and that a liberal arts foundation was more important to the enhancement of what I wanted to do with my career. When I finally realized and understood what that meant, I was able to apply myself into my academic, understand theories and critically analyze what it means to live in our society and who some parts need social change and advocacy for members. This was able to click for me when as my grade improved, my confidence increased, I became more involved within the university, and I felt an overall importance of who education would change my life again that was missing when I was trying to accomplish what others though
Although I was often told that studying science and business was unfocused and unnecessarily challenging, I disagreed completely. I was engrossed in dissections, the immune system and neurology during biology and the colorful yet sometimes dangerous experiments during chemistry. Without
When I began my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to be exposed to a full range of agricultural related courses. Animal science particularly stood out for me. Courses like Principles of Animal nutrition, Anatomy and digestive physiology and many others tend to reinforce and solidify my intense interest. I was not only fascinated by the biological mechanisms behind all life processes and explanations of how everything in nature functions but became aware of the ever present opportunities to relate my studies to my everyday life as a growing adult. My internship programs further instilled in me the discipline and expectations of a researcher, as I observed and learned at first hand researchers investigate the ruminal degradation of certain types of feeds.
Have you ever had a feeling that when you are done with your bachelor’s degree in life sciences, you are doing real great things by exploiting the technical skills that you learned from your degree program to solve the real world problems? I wish I could say “Yes, I do”, but, I had a different feeling after my bachelor’s degree. I had skills to perform the basic laboratory experiments with some guidance but not on my own. I started to realize that I should pursue higher degree to widen my technical horizon in life sciences and at the same time I felt the urge to delve into business aspects too. Having met some life science consultants in India, their inputs affirmed me that I should purse my Master’s degree from which I can gain both
The study of DNA, RNA and proteins without which life could not exist caught my attention right from school days and prompted me to take up biology as one of the major courses at high school. During my high school coursework I gained both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of life sciences and I got fascinated observing different life forms under a microscope. Observation of microscopic organisms under a microscope intrigued me a lot and persuaded me to opt for microbiology to explore the field. After passing high school with “A” grade I got admission into St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, which is known as the best college in my state. Along with Microbiology major I chose chemistry and physics as electives. My undergraduate coursework gave me an exposure to core microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and biostatistics. Understanding metabolism, regulation of gene expression, cell cycle events taking place inside the microorganisms has been truly amazing and laboratory courses in various subjects like biochemistry, industrial microbiology,
