America's Best Choice for Involvement with ISIS ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is a current terrorist group working to establish their own Islamic State in the Middle East. ISIS has posed to be an extremely dangerous group that has caused threats all over the world. Because of the lack of safety ISIS has caused, the United States has to take a stand. The United States has to demonstrate the power of diplomacy by enforcing cooperation with neighboring states. Diplomacy is the best option because sending troops has proven not to work to defeat ISIS or other Islamic terrorist groups, and working together with other countries offers a different more strategical and peaceful plan.
Diplomacy is the best option because in the past military

By working together with neighboring countries (Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia...etc) we can try and contain ISIS without using violence. If the United States spent as much effort working for diplomacy instead of war we would have peaceful containment in no time. After looking at the diagram “Untangling the Middle East” from theglobeandmail.com the Islamic State has hostile relationships with everyone. Meaning nobody is really for ISIS except ISIS. By cooperating with neighboring countries and working on relations with Syria and Russia the United States could get many different ideas on how to defeat ISIS with nonviolent tactics. Partnering with all these countries who have strong military will show ISIS what they are against. Having political ideas from several different countries will help to defeat ISIS.”Scientific surveys of Iraqi deaths resulting from the first four years of the Iraq War found that between 151,000 to over one million Iraqis died as a result of conflict during this time. A later study, published in 2011, found that approximately 500,000” (Wikipedia). This just goes to show how many people can be hurt by using military options. If countries worked together we could stop the military madness and bring peace without violence through the power of knowledge, and numbers of
Terrorism is a massive problem--everybody realizes that. Regardless of origin, culture, country, or political standpoint, every sane person understands that terrorism is something that is still relatively prevalent in the world, and something needs to be done about it. The problem, however, is that there is no easy solution. The United States tends to take overbearing control and responsibility for all terrorist threats, groups, and attacks, but this is simply not reasonable. Although we cannot expect every country to take initiative against terrorist threats like ISIS, sustained international coordination is necessary to effectively confront transnational terrorist groups (Shirkey). This way, the US can begin taking care of themselves and their own country, as they still have many issues that have yet to be solved. While working together is important, though, it is not the key to solving the problem. What we must do in addition is investigate and address the root causes of terrorism, and analyse them in detail in order to best combat terrorist groups at their roots.
ISIS has been a rapidly increasing threat to not just the United States of America, but the entire world. ISIS has done countless brutal, sick, heart wrenching things that have caused a national and international uproar in the citizens of numerous countries. ISIS considers them the Islamic State, and they seem to have many motives. They basically want a large portion of the Middle east under ISIS control and for the rest of the world to accept their disgusting “traditions” as they claim they are doing, This threat has done some very unspeakable things; the problem needs to be solved. Considering the view the United State holds right now, there are a few actions that can be taken to reduce this threat that ISIS presents. ISIS has rapidly become an enormous problem for most of, if not all of the world. There are some very simple and some very complicated ways to solves this problem. The most efficient way is to simple go to war with ISIS and physically, mentally and emotionally destroy everything and everyone that is supporting this cause, another way is to give them what they desire to have, finally the last option is just completely ignore the foreign issue until it presents itself on U.S. soil. After an online video emerged on Tuesday, January 21st, 2015, showing ISIS threatening to kill two Japanese hostages, relatively little was known about the relationship between the two prisoners. But Reuters News revealed later that next day
The United States, with its coalition partners, has committed to degrade and destroy the terrorist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This group poses a threat to the people of the Middle East, as well as to the United States, our allies, and interests in the region. If this terrorist organization is left uninterrupted, ISIL will grow, threatening the surrounding areas of the Middle East, our allies abroad, and the United States.
To conclude, the United States should no deploy anymore troops to fight ISIS. As a country we should not be involved with a nation we just battled with. It is too dangerous to our troops and our citizens. Also when our troops are away from the Homefront, our nation becomes very vulnerable. By leaving us defenseless, ISIS is left with more opportunity. Not to mention, other nations need to learn how to defend themselves. Sometimes you must sink before you learn to swim, and it is not our duty to rescue them. Our militia is better off when they're on home
The United States first tool to achieve these goals is diplomatic. First, the United States needs to retract the policy that the United States does not negotiate with Terrorists. Negotiation creates a negative connotation of concession or handing power over to the enemy. Negotiation, however, can be mere discussion with the enemy to find a way to end violence. Diplomatic tools consist of treaties, conventions, alliances, and accords. Holding conventions and creating accords will be the most successful approaches. Treaties require Senate and Presidential approval which can be a lengthy process and is tied up in domestic politics. The United States already has certain alliances and it is necessary to cultivate them, but in the context of ISIS and Syria, alliances are already set with the Free Syrian Army. Conventions to bring together many nations in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, to formulate agreements and accords with the states that are involved in Syria and fighting ISIS. ISIS, should not be a signatory since they are not a recognized state, but should be able to attend to make decisions with an understanding of ISIS’ wants because by understanding their objectives and interests we are better able to make policy to decrease violence of ISIS.
I believe that the United States should use other military forces from other countries to help eliminate ISIS because not only are they becoming a serious problem, but the youth from many countries are leaving home and/or disappearing because they feel the need to help in this movement, and in reality they have no idea what they are signing themselves up for. So in turn the United States should turn to these other countries for help, in the best way
In only a matter of time, what needs to be addressed is that wishful thinking will not make things happen, or get tasks completed. Not only must aerial strikes be launched, but on-foot battle is crucial as well. With Russian cooperation, our teams will become stronger. Now rivals do not necessarily need to form alliances, but they need to cooperate. Add in steps to breaking ISIS’ economy and we get their money, boosting ourselves. This also creates many job opportunities. The demand for tools and arm developers rising in order to defeat a worldwide enemy. We must think of not only getting rid of ISIS firearms, but also inventing useful aids for countering the attacks. The United States has attempted to stop ISIS’s advance by using airstrikes that has proven to be ineffective. We will acquire information needed to bring ISIS to an end by sending in ground troops to Iraq and Syria. Going to war will be inevitable and only a matter of time, what needs to be understood is that wishful thinking will not make things
In this essay I will prove why America must intervene and eliminate ISIS because ISIS is inhumane. ISIS consistently and systematically defies international law. ISIS controls governmental operations and oil land in iraq. Imagine a group of men walking into a concert and firing upon everyone in their sight for no apparent reason. ISIS has spread like a wildfire all over the world, doing whatever it takes for them to prove that they can't be stopped. In this essay it will be explained why ISIS needs to be eliminated and taken control of. Three key points will be talked about and discussed.
I believe that America should cautiously “put the boots on the ground”, in regards to the ISIS problem. If we wait too long we could have a major death toll, but if we rush in to fast even more could go wrong. To this moment America has bombed ISIS and has sent in small task forces, those task forces have been successful but they have made a small impact. America needs to do something bigger if we want to stop ISIS, whether that be “putting boots on the ground” or bombing them more.
The first criteria of Just War Theory is jus ad bellum, the just initiation of a war. Because the US is responding to an attack initiated by ISIS that places American institutions and Americans at harm, they are retaliating with the intention of self defense as opposed to acting out of aggression. This serves as a just cause of war. Additionally, failure to combat ISIS could potentially escalate the boomerang effect, a phenomenon in which citizens of the United States travel to Syria and Iraq and return to the states radicalized (In the News 8-30-16). This means that the US can justifiably send troops to the Middle East because they are acting with the right intention by preventing the “credible threat of imminent attack” (Crawford 2003). Furthermore, the US serves a legitimate authority because it is a sovereign state. It is able to provide means of centralized control and thus sidesteps any confusion over dealing with private actors and private armies initiating violence (Module 12). The United States has also exhausted all other options of attempting to reach a common ground with ISIS before deciding to employ “the use of military force” (Crawford 2003). While diplomatic measures might be viable in other conflicts, terrorism is unique in nature because it cannot be solved through peace talks alone. This is largely due to the fact that terrorists are vastly different from states in terms of how they operate- they have “different power relationships, goals, deterrence
Countering the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been a major struggle for all forces that oppose them for many reasons. There is an instability of the Syrian and Iraqi governments which has made local attempts to counter ISIS difficult, ISIS is self-sufficient with their funding capabilities (through extortion and oil sales, primarily), the social acceptance of ISIS in some areas make it difficult to appeal to locals to fight back, and ISIS has had the ability to conduct psychological warfare against societies, with an end result of acceptance or death. These key factors show just how complicated countering ISIS is; “There is no military solution [to Islamic State [IS)], only possibly some short-term tactical gains that might give
Throughout the past year they have shown great strength in almost successfully accomplishing this goal. They have strongly executed multiple people by decapitation, raped multiple women and children, destroyed the lives of many, and other ruthless acts. ISIS is a very strong jihadist group, maybe even stronger than Al-Qaeda ever was. This group might be just as strong enough to reign terror over the United States and other nations around the world. Being strong enough to do that could lead to multiple wars or terrorist attacks by ISIS, which jeopardizes many lives. Personally, the United States should stay out of the fight to destroy ISIS. It’s not worth losing American soldiers or anyone of great power over. The more the United States deploys troops into Iraq and Syria the more ISIS is going to want to destroy the U.S. or anyone else. All they want is to create an Islamic State, so people that want to live might as well try to get out of the hostile areas of Iraq and Syria. Although, if other countries stay completely out of it you are killing over thousands of people that can’t protect or help themselves. There needs to be more action taken, but it needs to be thought through thoroughly before deploying thousands of troops and putting their lives in danger. All countries need to work together and put a stop to ISIS. They need to do anything in Their power to end the ruthless group in the middle east.
ISIS and many terrorist groups have been recently attacking at will throughout the entire world. The terrorist group of ISIS is the biggest and most widely known terrorist group recently. One of the biggest controversial arguments today is if the United States should go to war with terrorist groups such as ISIS and others. I believe that the best solution to this argument is to not go to war with terrorist groups or ISIS just yet.
The coalition joint forces should blacklist all the oil companies that are buying oil from ISIS. The military forces should blockade all the supply routes for the ISIS movements of goods from the sea, air, and land across the Middle East. The second strategy is feasible, if the negotiation council successfully conducts their tasks and convince the violent extremists group to negotiate. The second strategy option is acceptable because it will cost less budget to end a bloodshed, war, and bring them into negotiation table, however, it is not guaranteed that they will accept the negotiation or not, but it is worth to try it.
The one international organization and major actor that needs to address ISIS is the UN Security Council. The question is what tools does the UN Security Council have to limit their power, and money that is continually streamlined in. Consequently, the Security Council currently only deals with states, therefore it is a difficult proposition for the organization to intervene with ISIS. However, in the past, the council “calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement”(Security Council UN). Furthermore, the Security Council has the right to impose sanctions and use force to restore peace around the globe. It was noted in UN Security Council Resolution 2170, “terrorism can only be defeated by a sustained and comprehensive approach involving the active participation and collaboration of all States… which is why our first priority is to encourage others to join in this important endeavor.” Back in 2014, the Security Council put forth a few plans to defeat and limit the power of ISIS. The UN Security Council also worked with NATO to lay these solutions out. The first solution is providing military support to our middle east partners and allies like Hungry. Secondly, the UN Security Council and
