Have you ever had the thought of what makes ice melt the fastest? Well in this you will hear some background information. In this experiment there is a solute and a solvent. The solute is the salt. The solvent is the the water. The salt is trying to lower the freezing point of the water. Solutions are made by when the solute in this case the salt dissolve onto the ice cube. Some types of other solutions are things like sugar dissolved in water, saltwater, and rubbing alcohol. There are 7 types of solutions. They are Solids, Liquids, Gases, Suspensions, Colloids, Homogeneous, and Heterogeneous solutions. 3 things that can melt ice are sand, salt, and sugar. Salt can melt because it is a great source for a thing called freezing point depression.
After that I waited until the entire ice cube melted. This took about two hours or so. Now that the ice had all melted and absorbed into the paper towel I could see that the ice cube had either broke through the paper towel, absorbed fully into the paper towel or leaked though in some spots. When I was finished looking over what had happened, I wrote down the results and everything all of my observations.

Im doing glacier melting because it is important and we need that fresh water to survive.Also i think we should do whatever we can to stop the glaciers from melting.And it also will take the crops longer to grow. It would effect our food supply. And it could kill most wild life.

The technique of building imagery can successfully transform the world around the reader, and connect them to the story. One Mile of Ice by Hugh Garner uses many imagery-building techniques to place readers in the mind of a man on the verge of death. In this story, Hugh Garner tells the tale of two brother-in-laws, Ralph and Pete, who venture off into town, accompanied by mare and sleigh, to get presents for the children for Christmas. However, their journey takes a very dark turn not too far into their adventure. The crisp winds become a blinding storm, in which Ralph and Pete are forced to fight for their lives. Unfortunately, only one man survives - Pete. One Mile of Ice uses visual components to build imagery, as well as tactile techniques to throw readers into the mind of the protagonist. Alongside this, the author uses auditory traits to reproduce the true terror experienced in this story by these brother-in-laws.
Most people know how to boil water and what the boiling point of water is. Most people don’t know that if you dissolve anything into the water it will increase the boiling point. If you dissolve anything in anything, it will increase the boiling point. “It’s a generic phenomenon dissolve one substance (the solute) in another (the solvent) and you will raise its boiling point” (Sciencebase, Salt and the Boiling Point of Water, para. 1). “The presence of a solute affects the boiling point and freezing point of the solvent. Solutions boil at a temperature that is higher than the normal boiling point of the pure solvent, and freeze at a temperature that is lower than the freezing point of the pure solvent,” (Liquids, Liquid Mixtures and Solutions, para. 1). The boiling point changes when a substance is dissolved in there because it takes more energy to move that atom.

Other substances that dissolve in water also lower the freezing point of the solution. The amount by which the freezing point is lowered depends only on the number of molecules dissolved, not on their chemical nature. This is an example of a colligative property. In this project, you'll investigate different substances to see how they affect the rate at which ice cubes melt. You'll test substances that dissolve in water (i.e., soluble substances), like salt and sugar, as well as substances that don't dissolve in water (i.e., insoluble substances), like sand and pepper. Which substances will speed up the melting of the ice?
In my project, I will do an experiment to find out which material makes ice melt the fastest while the temperature of the room will remain the same. This research is important because if you are short on ice and you need it you can figure out which material will make your ice last the longest if you have no insulation. For example, if you were in the desert and had a cooler you would know what to put in your cooler to make your ice last the longest. I will be testing with three different materials: steel, wood, and fabric. My hypothesis is if the steel retains the ice's cold temperature then it will take the longest for the ice to melt. My goal is to help cooler companies improve their coolers by outlining them with whatever material helps

In salt, there are more particles in 10 grams of sodium chloride (salt) than in 10 grams of sucrose (sugar). When there are more particles, melting will occur faster. When there is one type of molecule, say water, it is easier for the molecules to get in an orderly manner to become solid water, or ice. When other types of molecules are added, the water molecules lose their order and it becomes harder to be frozen. Therefore, when there are more particles of a different type, then the freezing point will become lower.
Its Chemical formula is CO2. The liquid form of carbon dioxide has to be contained in a very high pressured container and is fit difficult to acquire. Dry ice has a reaction to any substance once it is taken out of its container that, that reaction is called sublimation. Sublimation is a chemical process where a solid turns into a gas without going to a solid state. The most likely reason the speed of sublimation will vary is because of the density and viscosity of the substance. Viscosity is the property of resistance to flow in a fluid or semi fluid (“Merriam- Webster.com”). Density is how packed together something is. Given this information about dry ice and sublimation, the rate of any substance can vary in many ways. Therefore, if dry ice is placed in the thinnest liquid with the least density then it will have the fastest sublimation right because the reaction will happen sooner than a liquid with a higher density and a thinker
Chasing Ice The documentary is Chasing Ice made in 2009, directed by James Balog tries to convince the viewers that global warming is a growing problem in the world and one way to show people are glaciers. Taking pictures or videos of them and having visual evidence of global warming will hopefully convince viewers that global warming is true. What the director does is go to different countries and plants cameras of certain glaciers and hopefully catch them receding on camera. The three different places are Alaska, Iceland, and Greenland.
In class, L. Meek discussed about the six properties of Evolved Psychological Mechanism (EPM). The first property is that EPM solved a specific problem of survival or reproduction recurrently over the evolutionary history. Second, only narrow of information is processed according to EPM. Third, the adaptive problem an organism is facing is informed by an EPM. Fourth, EPM also transformed through, leaving some room for decision making for an individual as the output. Fifth, the output of an EPM is the physical activity, which manifest behavior. Last, the output of an EPM is to solve a specific adaptation problem, such as having an EPM to attract food to solve a hunger problem.
Summer is coming, and many people enjoy eating water ice and ice cream for a refreshing treat, but did anyone think about is water ice better or ice cream better either from healthy, taste or something else. I think either than from healthy, taste or something else, water ice is better than ice-cream.
