If I were to get caught shoplifting by the police, honestly, I would probably be more scared of facing my family and friends than the criminal punishment. However, I would still fear the criminal punishment. Though, facing my family and friends in this circumstance would cause more pain and regret. In my mind, I feel like I let the people I love down by doing something that I could have avoided. I feel anyone with a supportive family will feel the same because you would think about their feeling in all your actions. My family and friends would probably start second guessing our relationship for the fact that I never went to them about my troubles. Without a doubt, there would be problems given that I shoplifted. The textbook states “other
If you do shoplift you feel immense humiliation and distrust from friends and family, and your own conscious is hurt if it isn't then there is something wrong with your feelings not to feel bad about stealing from stores. Every time you steal from stores they are set back that much money and might even have to fire someone that could be one of your friends.People in the community lose respect for you.
The consequences of shoplifting also affect you and your family members majorly. An example of this might be if you have younger siblings. If your sibling is aware of the situation or even aware that you’ve shoplifted before, he or she might think it’s a good idea and that they can get away with it. Older siblings are a big influence on younger siblings and they often look up to them. If they know you steal, they’re going to think its okay. Another reason this affects your family is because of your parents. Your parents also have to go through a lot during the process. They have to attend meetings with you, usually drive you to your community service site, and schedule meetings. Parents also tend to lose your trust after an event like this. Trust is a big issue and it’s really hard to get back, you must earn it. My mom has always taught me to be honest, hardworking, and trustworthy. These qualities were always really important to her and after all this happened I knew she would be really disappointed.
Along with a community being hurt, his or her actions negatively affect those personally close to the shoplifter as well. Whether it is a mother, father, sibling, or child, there is always someone else being hurt when stealing takes place. It is very easy for the shoplifter to only worry about him or her and not think about the
On Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at approximately 1459 hours, I responded to Dollar Tree, 1459 Iris Drive, in reference to a report of a shoplifting. When I arrived to the location, Sgt. Staton advised me that she had witness a shoplifting.
R/O responded to the listed address in reference to a possible shoplifter. Upon arrival, I met with Comp. who stated that on 07/22/2017 at 11:04pm, a "frequent client", had came in and "looks like she stole something". Comp. showed me the cameras and stated that she was not sure if the Suspect took the item described as a "bag of sour patch kids" with a value of $2.59.
Another fine example of neorealism is The Bicycle Thief (1948), written by Cesare Zavattini and directed by Vittorio De Sica. The narrative of this film unfolds in post-W.W.II times. The film is a portrait of the post-war Italian disadvantaged class (the majority) in their search for self-respect. It is a time of struggle for the Italian people, amplified by a shortage of employment and lack of social services. In the first scenes of the film, these conditions are evident as Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorami) meets his spouse Maria (Lianalla Carell) on his way back home. We see the "men" arguing at the employment "office" as the "women" argue about the shortage of water. Although the director's
Crime is something that has occurred over the decades and impacts both the victim and the wider community. It is described as behaviour that breaks the formal laws of a given society (Kirby, 2000) and is more punishable than deviance. The nature and frequency of crime depends on the neighbourhood in which it takes place and will impact on the concerns people have regarding the safety of their environment. When crime reaches a peak then ideas are put forward in a bid to reduce soaring levels, these are thought of as crime deterring strategies and often the effectiveness of these implementations is debateable. Deterrence in short, is the use of punishment as a means to discourage people from committing criminal offences. This essay will
If my little brother were to shoplift, I'd like to imagine I'd recognize the signs that is acting out. I'd like to think I'd be worried, but I'd also have his best interest in mind. If feel like if
In fact, burglary doesn’t even hit the radar when measuring inventory shrinkage in the US. What does hit the radar according to the holy grail of studies in the industry, the National Retail Security Survey by The University of Florida: #1 employee theft, #2 shoplifting #3 Administrative errors, #4 Unknown, and #5 Vendor fraud.
The theft act 1968 is a law that requires the defendant that is guilty of theft to face up to a penalty of 7 years for stealing. The Fraud act 2006 is when an individual is selling fake products to their customers.
On 12/15/2017 at approximately 2213 hours, I, Officer Green responded to Belk's Department Store at 2800 Highway 90 for a shoplifting complaint. Upon my arrival, I spoke to the store manager, Kathy Blessey.
Chapter 28 mentions how, "shoplifting may be considered the most serious crime in regards to which most people ave some personal familiarity and how according to studies done one in every 10-15 individuals who shops has shoplifted at one time or another" (Chapter 28, pg. 326). Also, chapter 28 mentions how "losses towards shoplifting range from 12 to 30 billion dollars and is one the most prevalent forms of larceny" (Chapter 28, pg. 326 to 327).
It can be a slippery slope when handling juvenile offenders for victim’s rights must be respected; ergo, although confinement is alleged to contribute to high recidivism rates, often justice must take precedence regardless of fiscal expense. Confinement is necessary to incapacitate violent offenders; however, there are better alternatives for non-violent offenders who are not career criminals. The impact of juvenile detainment creates tremendous hardships on the youths’ immediate family, presents higher recidivism rates which further endangers the community at large, and obstructs the youths’ transition into adulthood. Alternatives which can plausibly maintain youth in their family residence where they continue engaged in school receiving support from family members and mentors is the preferred option. The purpose of the juvenile courts is to provide treatment to youth offenders as opposed to punitive discipline, the goal being de-carceration. This dissertation will provide this student/advocates determination of sanctions that I would impose if I were a judge presiding over Tanja’s case.
When I started this research project, I thought shoplifting was attributed to misguided youngsters looking for a thrill, drug addicts desperate for their next fix, or individuals who fell on tough times. I never have imagined that there could be any other reason for this behavior. As I peeled back the layers of this topic, it became a fascinating subject to research, from the ways people shoplift, reasons for the behavior to the amount lost by retailers and shops on an annual basis.
Bicycle Thieves (1948) is the story of a father and his desperate search for his stolen bicycle, without which he faces poverty and an inability to support his young family. The film was directed by Vittorio De Sica, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cesare Zavattini, based on the novel of the same name by Luigi Bartolini. André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a 'true masterpiece' of Italian neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many ways, his assertion was true, with the likes of Rossellini and Visconti continuing to produce additions to the canon, De Sica again contributing
