Today we are discussing whether if Steve Harmon should be held guilty or not guilty. I, the defender, says that he is not. We’ve all experienced being accused of doing something we didn’t actually do but Steve’s situation is just more extreme than most of ours. It’s not everyday when we get told a friend is being accused of felony murder. I will be using O’brien’s closing statement along with other quotes to prove to you, that Steve Harmon is not guilty.
If you read page 245, O’brien’s closing statement reads, “The State did elicit from Steve that he spoke to Mr.King about basketball. The conversation were short, and without substance. At no time did the State establish any conversation between Steve and anyone else about a robbery.”. Even though Steve has had small talk with James, there is no proof that they’ve talked about planning the robbery. On page 51, there’s a flashback between a woman named Peaches, a man named Johnny, King, and Steve. King did mention the difficulties of getting money and the only thing Steve did was agree to just that. Nothing more, nothing less. Then, Peaches, Johnny, and King spoke about is money.

After that Johnny disagreed because he said it was too serious. So others were involved in this but all Steve do was talk about basketball and deny his trouble.
The only reason why they’re on this subject is because King carried the conversation by saying, “ If I had a crew, I could get paid. All I need is a crew with some heart, and a nose for the cash.” King asked Steve if he had any ideas for where to get money but he denied and just said he doesn’t know. So, if he doesn’t know where, then there’s no reason for him to
First Steve and Mrs.Petrocelli said “ I don’t remember seeing him play ball” “you having trouble remembering what you’ve seen.” (Myers 226). Steve is using a tactic which he said he doesn’t remember something and nobody can disprove that because it’s his memory. Then in the jail inmate number two states “Nah! truth is something you gave up when you were out there on the street. Now you are talking survival” (Myers 226). This demonstrates my theme because the criminal is saying nobody will tell the truth, they will just look for ways to lie to get out of trouble. Steve is a very smart person as he is only saying the bare minimum as to not say any facts to show that he is guilty. The truth is gone all you have left now is
In the case of the State v. Stu Dents, the jury found the defendant guilty of the following charges: homicide, assault of a police officer, kidnapping, and crimes related to drugs. They felt that there was no sufficient evidence to charge him with the crime of burglary. It has come down to the sentencing stage of this case. We will hear from both the prosecuting and defending attorneys before the court makes their final ruling on the sentence of one, Mr. Stu Dents.
Investigator Sam Reilly will also be called to testify, in that he was the first investigator on the scene. Shortly after the murder, Officer Reilly went to the defendant’s home at 2435 Damen Street, apt #2B and forced down Mr. John Hudsons’ and Dale Buckner’s door. While at the apartment, Officer Reilly Recovered a .38 revolver (matching the gun from the crime scene), a black leather jacket, and a newly registered Black Cadillac Sedan; which matched the description of the getaway car. Due to officer Reilly’s work, pertinent details of the defendant’s background and belongings have been brought to trial and will help us prove that the defendants did, beyond a reasonable doubt murder, and assist in murdering Mrs. Sara Lazar. Upon arrest, the defendant’s both refused to make a statement concerning the killing of Mrs. Lazar.
First, Steve Harmon is not guilty of felony murder because he was scouting locations for school film project. Mr. Sawicki, Steve's film club teacher states, “It is my belief that to make an honest film, one has to be an honest person. I would say that. And I do believe in Steve's honesty." he says this after Steve says, "I don't know exactly where I was when the robbery took place. Most of the day I was going around taking mental notes about places I want to film for a school film project. The evidence shows that on the day of the robbery, Steve was believed to be scouting places for a film assignment. Mr. Sawicki, his film teacher believes Steve is honest. As a result of the evidence Steve Harmon is not guilty because he was scouting locations for a school film project while the crime was taking place. Steve Harmon is not guilty of felony murder
Steve has many flashbacks during the trial. One of his first flashbacks is with Johnny, Peaches, and King. They sat together while King was planning to rob the drugstore. King says, “I need to get paid, man. I ain’t got nothing between my butt and the ground but a rag.” (50) Steve agrees, “I hear that.”(50) This means that Steve had at least known about the plan to rob the drugstore, and was there when King was planning to rob the drugstore. In another flashback we read about Steve talking to Oswaldo Cruz, another person who was helping to rob the
In the Monster by Walter Dean Myers, the character Steve Harmon finds himself easily excepting of the label of a monster which was presented by Sandra Petrocelli "But there are also monsters in our community- people who are willing to steal and to kill, people who disregard the rights of others". Steve doesn't view himself as an active participant in the robbery which leads to the death of the store owner Alguinaldo Nesbitt and because of this he has not completely excepted the label of a monster, looking at Petrocelli point of view of what makes a monster showed Steve that regardless if he plays a minor role or are larger role, he still took part in the crime which leads to death of Mr. Nesbitt, a crime which showed no regard for the rights of others and willingness to steal and kill. Being a person of morals Steve should have seen that they were about to steal from an innocent person without consideration for the victim, even though murder may not have been apart of the plan it is still an act which victimizes someone and in some ways place people in danger. Secondly, Steve faces probably the most challenging of all, Steve realizes that his father now views him as a monster and not as his son. Mr. Harmon showed his disappointment when he shares with Steve what he dreamt of for his son "When you were first born, I would lie up in bed thinking about scenes of your life. You playing football. You going off to college. I used to think of you going to Morehouse and doing the same things I did when I was there. I never made the football team, but I thought—I dreamed you would. I never thought of seeing you in a place like this. It just never came to me that you'd ever be in any kind of trouble." This
Dustin Turner is innocent. He did not murder Jennifer Evans; however he is still serving an eighty-two year sentence in prison. Ten years more than what Billy Brown got sentenced. Turner has been locked away for half of his life. He deserves to be released. Although he waited 8 nerve-wrecking days to go to the police, he’s served his time to the system and the society to be released. Billy Brown should be the one to be sitting on death row waiting to get the chair for what he has done to Jennifer, her family, Dustin, his family, and even to his own family. Everyone is suffering from his drunken rage actions.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Today we have a very serious charge before you. We have Dr Richard Kimball, who is before you on the charges of first-degree murder. However, he is not guilty based on our success to provide reasonable doubt that Kimball planned and deliberately kill his wife or that he was provoked into killing his wife in the heat of passion.
Anthony Elonis was charged five times but convicted on only four counts. The first count, of which he was not convicted, was not seen as a “true threat.” The jury believed that the first conviction was seen more as a joke. The other four convictions, however, were deemed as direct threats. The jury believed that the defendants felt threatened by Elonis’ statements whether or not he truly meant his
I believe Steven Avery was not guilty this is because with all the evidence added up from things to the description of the perpetrator to the evidence that he had showing that he was out the whole day while the incident had happened just explains that he was guilty from the start they treated him very differently to other suspects. Never trust people blindly, but I believe it’s better give people the benefit of the doubt rather than be cynical about everyone and everything people do. If you don’t really know someone, you should assume they are a good person until proven otherwise.
he played Show and Tell with soap. Johnny's Show and Tell was better than Joe's Show and Tell, so Joe bullied
Ryan Nelson is a criminal lawyer in Massachusetts. He is torn between defending Anthony Cullen, a popular, intelligent and involved senior at Harvard University, for drugging and sexual assaulting Lina Davis. Lina claims Anthony tried forcing himself on her and her last recollection of the night was him offering to walk her home because she started feeling dizzy. Anthony claims he offered to walk her home, but didn’t. Anthony claims to Ryan that he is innocent and there is no direct evidence or witnesses to connect Anthony to the crime. Ryan has a gut feeling that Anthony is lying and that his story does not match up. Ryan feels that he is in a difficult situation and doesn’t know whether to defend Anthony or to turn down his case.
Without a reasonable doubt I think Steve Harmon is guilty of first degree murder. I think this because, Bobo had just meet Steve right before the robbery. Steve had said that he was there for sure. King had said he knew a guy for this look out job. Bobo did not know if Steve was really going to be the look out person. Bobo and King went out to eat after the robbery. Bobo and King had split the money after the robbery and getting something to eat. So really Steve was just there to give a signal Bobo had said. Steve did not even know what was going on in the drug store. Cruz had a chance to grab a taste of money, but he did not because, he was afraid of Bobo. Cruz had said Steve was there at the robbery. Lorelle was at the drugstore getting cough
Nonetheless, on this count Steven might have a logical argument to convince the court of his innocence. A report by Criminal Law Revision Committee (1980), defines assault as
Ladies and Gentlemen we are in the courtroom today to discuss the trial against the young man who murdered his father. I am against the child. Because he is obviously guilty. He murdered his own in cold blood. The knife was dug four inches into the poor mans chest. The two suspects say they saw and/or heard the child scream “i’m going to kill you”. The old man heard the boy scream those words. But then the old woman driving on the el tracks saw the murder. The knife the boy purchased the store owner said he sold it to the young man. But he says he dropped it by the movie theater. But that was untrue because we searched the young man and he said there was a hole in his pants but the knife was still there. So ladies and gentlemen of the jury
