In my opinion, immigrants and refugees should have the right to obtain medical coverage under the Affordable Care Act. At the end of the day, all human are created equal; I also think that immigrants and refugee that came to America under working visa should qualify to receive healthcare coverage. Many immigrants migrate to the US with hopes that they will have a better life and brighter future for their children. Immigrants and refugees who reside in the US illegally will work for any price to earn a living; they are hard workers and willing to do anything to put food on the table. There is no reason anyone should be denied access to medical services, because of their legal status or because they were too poor to afford healthcare. When it
The changing environment throughout time has caused many families to move out of their homelands. These families are either forced to make the decision to move out, or they move by their own desire. Migration and parenthood in a new country are significant transitions that pose stressful challenges for immigrant and refugee parents. Although living in Canada can be rewarding, however, there are challenges that immigrants and refugee face through trying to adapt to the culture of Canada. These challenges may include, battling cultural shock, Language Barriers, Misconceptions of Homeland and culture, employment, and depression.
We all come from different places and ethnicities, and because of having a dream, people fled away from their home to seek for something to make their life better. Going to a country like United States, is not only a dream but also, an opportunity because many people think that America is the best place to settle in, where work, and education are an easy access. Though this statement is partly true, it is not that easy. Everyone envied because America is a great nation because it's a country of opportunity, but a part of it also is a mixture of feelings that are hard to explain especially if you are immigrant. Every day in your life, you are fighting for something in order to fit in and survive. However, in the process of fitting in or blending to a certain place, people, and culture, it requires a lot of personal choices and a lot of effort as an immigrant. It does not only affect you as a human, but also it draws a lot of attention, conflicts and tension between the government and community. Most immigrants have a harder time to adjust or assimilate even though they speak fluent English and eat American foods. Whenever you see a person of white complexion, people assumed that blue eyes and blonde hair are the characteristics of an American, though these are how we perceived American long time ago, this are still the standards of a few now and doesn’t make a big change at all. The judgement of how a person look physically and how they
The primary purpose of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is to improve both access and quality of health insurers with reformed payment strategies, and coverage expansion (McMelland et al., 2014). The act was designed to provide better insurance coverage to low-income American citizens, which also include undocumented immigrants. Currently, undocumented immigrants are excluded from the ACA, and there has been some debate whether or not to include this specific group. They should be denied ACA benefits because of the overcrowding of healthcare facilities, already being covered by government healthcare aids, and placing additional financial burdens on the American economy.
The Affordable Care Act meant to give accessible medical care/health care to millions of people living in America, yet there is a large group that has been omitted from such act. Illegal immigrants are not eligible to buy health coverage nor receive help that would allow them to buy affordable health care. Because of this, illegal immigrants are not able to receive health care that they sometimes desperately need. The Affordable Care Act is not the only act passed in the United States that has placed limits on how illegal immigrants can get health coverage. Proposition 187 in California and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 have put restrictions on health coverage for illegal immigrants. Which has led
There are millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States, many of whom are Latinos. Americans today tend to believe that undocumented immigrants are: rapist, drug traffickers, live off the welfare and come to the United States to take American’s jobs. Indeed, American employers are hiring, so jobs are there, but the American people are not doing them. Therefore, someone must do the hard labor that no one wants. Many Latinos immigrate to the United States looking towards a better future for their families. They come with a positive perspective that their children are going to have a better life and are not going to experience any injustices. For many decades, white Americans have oppressed and marginalized undocumented immigrants because
In the past year, there has been a lot of coverage in the media about illegal immigrants coming into the United States. Illegal immigrants crossing the border into the United States became one of the topics mentioned in the recent presidential campaign. President Trump told his supporters that Mexico is dumping thousands of “bad people” into the US because they are drug dealers, rapists, and murderers (Walker, 2015). President Trump cited a recent murder of a young woman living in California as evidence that all illegal immigrants are bad. The woman was murdered by a man who was deported five times because he had a criminal record. Trump told his supporters that Mexico sent the man back into the United States
To be able afford a home in the United States, some type of immigration status is needed because taxes and rent needs to be paid. Also, obtaining a job with a reasonable income needs to be received to be able to pay the rent, otherwise many immigrants remain homeless, live in shelters, and live with a family member or friends.
Inherency: The current state of immigration policy in the United States is characterized by a reliance on surveillance technologies to track and deport undocumented immigrants. The federal government has been spending vast amounts of money on surveillance programs that lack any oversight or accountability. [Kalyan 2014] Federal expenditures on border and immigration control have grown fifteen - fold since 1986. These initiatives have yielded a staggering increase in the number of non citizens formally removed from the United States. Much less widely noted, however, has been that immigration control has rapidly become an information - centered and technology - driven enterprise. Both non citizens and U.S. citizens are now subject to collection
Had I been asked “will non-white immigrants ever be completely accepted in contemporary America” over a year ago, I would have said absolutely yes, without any hesitation. Prior to the current administration, it appeared as if the United States were moving towards a move racially diverse and non-white normative society. However, as of late many people have come out of the woodworks to express their undying opposition of non-white acceptance, and consequently it appears that we are taking many steps backwards in terms of acceptance. I do believe that non-white immigrants will eventually be accepted into contemporary America, however it is not without its obstacles.
Illegal immigration is a very controversial topic in America today. There is a controversy over whether or not America should be allowing these illegal people in, and whether or not they should receive privileges reserved for American citizens. The humanitarian argument is to let everyone who needs help in and to allow them to establish residency and be afforded all of the privileges of a citizen, which would include welfare, public schools, etc. However, the overall state of the country must be considered over that of the happiness and comfort of non-citizens. People need to realize there are many negative consequences to letting these people in, besides the fact the crime of crossing the border has already been committed. Despite people
The total amount of American citizens that are of the working age are unemployed is around 54.7 million people. It's hard enough for American born citizens to get a job already, but now you have illegal immigrants coming here and taking even more jobs. Some Americans only have a high school degree, which means that they are incapable of getting a higher level job because in today's society employers want more educated employees. Also a research done by CIS found that 74 percent of illegal immigrants have no more than a high school education, which means that they are directly competing for jobs with lesser educated American citizens. This a problem and it's unfair because they are taking away opportunities from born American citizens and
Every year, people from different cultures and ethnicity become citizens of the United States. However, some people see this as a bad thing, which is where other people see this as a problem. America should be a nation where it should not matter what your race or ethnicity is to others. America was built upon the ideas and dreams of others. We should be promoting those ideals to immigrants so they can become citizens. Immigrants should assimilate into American culture because it could affect a work place, the topic is getting less attention, and they do a lot to come into America.
There are two types of migrants, especially families, that have been affected by IIRIRA, legal migrants and illegal migrants. It is the different treatment of these two migrants under the law for family reunification benefits that create a hierarchy of mixed status families, which prioritizes wealthier, fairer and better educated migrants over those who are low-income, non-white and less educated. The profiles legal migrant spouses, such visa-overstaying and legal permanent residents, are vastly different than the profiles of undocumented spouses entering the border illegally. Migrants seeking any type of temporary visa for the US is required to prove sufficient funds to cover all costs of the trip and intent to depart after the completion of one’s trip (Bureau of Consular Affairs).
The great influx of immigrants who came to the United States during the nineteenth century faced xenophobic sentiments from everybody— commoners and government officials alike. Consequently, the immigrants who came to America in search of economic opportunity were attributed with the characteristics of filth, laziness, and inferiority. Accordingly, editorial cartoons of the time encapsulated these nativist views held by Anglo-Saxons. One such cartoon, “The Stranger at the Gate”, depicted a rugged immigrant carrying various pieces of luggage labeled “disease”, “poverty”, and “anarchy” (Stranger). Through the use of symbolism, the cartoon reflects the popular sentiment that immigrants are filthy and offer America nothing but disease and poverty.
Well according to The Declaration of independence it states “We hold these truths so be self evident ,that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights “. Clearly in big bold letters it says that everyone is equal and should not be denied any rights so medical rights to immigrants shouldn't make a difference i mean i believe immigrants should be given medical rights it's only right and fair to everyone it's only human to do so .
