Port cities, New York, Boston and Philadelphia were attracting immigrants from northwestern Europeans, many did not acquire the money to travel to the weather cities, giving better paying jobs, so they usually resided in the city (or close) to where they came into the United States. The cities would have low paying jobs and very adorable rent for the immigrants to live in. The immigrants with a substantial amount of money, like the Germans, would move to the more profitable cities and farms of the Midwest and North Central states. In 1850, more than half the foreign-born residents were located in NY, PA, MA, or NJ. These cities offered a vast, diverse collection of workers, their pack check kept low due to their rent being cheap. From this,
Being an American to me means to be free and to have vast indepence. But what being an American means to my whole generation could be the total opposite. Because some may be recent immigrants and have restricted freedoms. Others may have a family member who is trying to immigrate, or know one who has emigrated. The main reasons people emigrate to a new country are to get a better job, practice the religion they have always wanted without restrictions. Most of all just to be free and have a better life for their family.
Day in and day out many immigrants enter the United States of America in search of greener pastures. This greener pasture includes higher educational prospects and lucrative jobs. However, life usually does not turn out as many of them usually anticipate. The expectation they usually have prior to their entry to the United States is partly due to the all rosary and nice things they hear about America. They hear such nice things from the media and also from diaspora’s who return from America to their homeland who usually don’t share their entire experiences with them. There have been quite a number of reports and research findings that outline the various challenges that are faced by immigrants in America. I personally share some of these issues as an international student in a foreign country. Prior to coming to Metropolitan State University, I had colleagues who told me about the school and their excellent environments that facilitate learning. Also other friends who were in America made me aware of the opportunity to work alongside schooling which made me more interested as I needed financial aid. With all these palatable information in mind, I did apply for the school and even though the tuition fee was quite expensive considering my socio economic background, I did apply having the mindset of working to meet up certain financial needs. Upon arrival in America, I realized that I was given a fraction of the entire picture. I wasn't allowed to work outside of campus,
Ever since 2001, when the tragedy of September 11th happened, many citizens in the U.S. have a fear of allowing immigrants into the United States. Some citizens judge that immigration is an impending threat to national security, and that the U.S. should close the borders up for good. The U.S. should not consider that because everything negative that occurs in the U.S. is not due to immigrants. The government can stop illegal immigration right now, but would it not affect the U.S. more to do so? Restrictionists claim that large-scale immigration, legal and illegal has depressed wages, burdened government resources, and acted as a net drain on the economy. However, if immigration is stopped completely the reduction of workers would cause the inflation of money to decrease therefore, causing the economy to plunge downward. People come to the U.S. to escape persecution from their country, work and make a living. Third world immigration is not a threat to America’s way of life because immigrants work, immigrants participate, and immigration already responds reasonably well to America 's economy. Thus, if immigration is eliminated, the U.S. would have fewer workers and the economy would not flow smoothly because the immigrant workers make the jobs and economy better. America should allow immigrants because they are essential to the growth of the American economy.
Immigrantion is an apperance that people choose where they want to live; people from all over the world would like to immigrant to the countries such as Russia, Germany or Canada. There is no denying that many people choose to come to the United States and be a citizen of this country because America is the greatest country in the world so far. The United States as the largest population of immigrantion is a controversy thing; it has been talked by many authors; they gave their opinions no matter they are from this country or they are immigrants. Immigration has bring either bad thing or good thing to the United States; different people has different views such as every coin has two sides.
During the Great War, industrial cities in the North and Midwest profited greatly. However due to white men enlisting in World War I and the United States government halt on immigration from Europe, these industrial cities experienced severe labor shortages. To fulfill these job shortages, northern manufacturers recruited throughout the South causing what is known as The Great Migration, where at least 500,000 African-Americans moved from the South to Northern and Midwestern cities.
In the U.S.’ growing population, not only are the number of Americans growing each day, but also the number of illegal aliens. While immigrants brought a mass variety of races and culture to the U.S., only recently has it become a bigger, more illegal problem. Change needs to happen with this problem for it is illegal and the country knows what is happening. While immigration has been with the U.S. from the very beginning, it’s becoming worse with every year.
Today, the United States of America may also called as immigrant country. The country of many different immigrants around the world who gathered with hopes and dreams. There were two differences groups of immigrants that came to the United States, in the early years. One as referring to "Old" immigrant and another as “New" immigrant (Delorezo). The old immigrants were coming from western and northern Europe and England and English territories during the time of colonial period. English, Scotch, Irish, Dutch, German, Swedish, and Scandinavians were considered as the first immigrants (Delorenzo). The new immigrants were settled in the United State in the period of intense industrial development knows as the gilded age or progressive era. These
No one enjoys leaving their home, but when calamities occur there is sometimes no choice. Due to political and natural disasters, such as the earthquake in 2010, the number of Haitian immigrants in the United States has increased to 700,000 in the last 30 years. Many of these immigrants were encouraged to come to America for safe keeping until the year of 2018. Most of these Haitians have plans to stay in the country illegally. Very few of these immigrants have understanding towards the American life. To help them become legal, the United States can create an adaption program to aid immigrants in acquiring abilities to speak English, maintain economic stability, and provide workers for the United States.
The cause of various epidemics, diseases, outbreaks of war, unemployment in other countries like China, Europe, etc. made people immigrate to the United States to cities like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and other cities. These cities also attracted people due to various developed technologies like lights, streetcars, shops, etc. It was a time when these cities had job opportunities available. Other factors like industrialization, transport through railroads and ships also brought a lot of immigrants to the country. The immigrants came and started doing jobs that they were familiar with. They were ready to adjust to any conditions. They led a pretty hard life. Families crowded together in a single room and worked hard to earn the money.
Immigrants have played a significant role to strengthen the U.S. economy. There are some distinct factors that would further stimulate the U.S. economy due to immigration. These include; the increased productivity and GDP level, provision of a large number of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labors, entrepreneurs and technological innovators, demand for goods and services and the positive fiscal impact on American revenue.
What I know about Paleolithic people and what I think would have influenced them to migrate to the Americas is that there food migrated so the Paleolithic people had to follow their food ,found a spot to settle until their food needed to migrated again.through thousand of the years Paleo people evolved in to humo sapiane sapianes (which is us).
A brief history of immigration in the United States, and then move into the contemporary information of how is immigration now.
Immigrants can no longer hide behind the refrain that their ancestors didn't own slaves, or claim that, as recent arrivals, they are exonerated from America's racial crimes. Indeed, immigrants are implicated in America's race problem through the very act of immigration. Besides, when immigrants proudly embrace American citizenship and nationality, they not only take possession of American dreams and ideals, but they also must realize, that it was the African American whose protest movements which led to immigration reform that allowed them entrance in the first place that previously did not exist for people of color.
Industrial cities were growing fast, first by the migration from the country side; young men and women migrated to look for new jobs in factories. In the other hand industrial American cities were attractive to new immigrants from different foreign country. Immigrants were Irish, Swedish, Germans, polish, Italians, Jewish, catholic etc. others were from Asian country like China. Cities like New York and Chicago were diversified where different ethnic and racial groups were living close together, but in the same time these ethnic groups were living in segregated ethnic neighborhoods such as the San Francisco China town. Italian were concentrated in North Beach and Jewish in Hayes Valley. Moreover, with the growth of foreign population appeared
Each and every day, immigrants leave their countries and come to the United States to have better lives. Sometimes they are escaping problems such as natural disasters, religious persecution, and civil war. In most cases, when they come here they are welcomed with open arms. Immigrants are given the opportunity to start a new life away from the suffering that they had been experiencing. However, some of those who come here have ulterior motives that they may follow by exploiting our generosity. These people may be extremists, terrorists, criminals, etc. Those with these malicious backgrounds and intentions must be prevented from entering our country and causing mayhem. For these reasons, I do believe that we should have restrictions on who can immigrate to the United States. Allowing certain people from other countries into the United States puts the whole country in danger. We cannot always be entirely sure that who we are allowing into the country does not present a threat to our national security. Although not all immigrants are dangerous and want to harm us, we still need to be cautious. Overall, there are too many risks involved with allowing certain people in the U.S. that may harbor hate for us.
