Immigrating to the United States from Belarus at a young age has helped me becoming the person I am today. When my family and I moved , none of us could speak a word of English other then yes , no , hello. We started living with my aunt who had recently moved a year ago, and from there my mother did everything she could to create the better life we moved here for. I watched my mom somehow get 2 jobs and go back to school to provide for my family and to also learn english. I learned a lot of English by watching movies before attending school in America , but still had difficulty talking to my peers and them understanding me. That did not stop me from challenging my self and bettering my english. Though out the years I now realize that here
Coming to America was very scary and dangerous. Children had to leave their leave moms and dad and ride on boats alone. They faced many challenges such as sickness. People on the boat got sea sick or got the flu. They were contagious so they gave it to others. The sea was rough, some boats never made it to the New World. Many people died on the way to the New World. They survived on very little food and water they could only store as much as what would fit on the boat. They couldn’t drink sea water because it would dehydrate them even more and when they got to America they would have to find money to get a house and food. Life was very difficult because parents had to find a job. By the time some of the kids reached the New World the parents
I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say “because of you I didn’t give up.” I was born in America. Since my grandfather lives in America, my father brought my mother to be taken care of by my parents. Afterwards, I moved to Hong Kong with my parents, who were moving for job purposes. Although I understand the American culture, America and the Americans have always fascinated me. After coming back to America, I found it hard to get used to the American culture again. Though the American culture had changed since the last time I was there, I still found it fascinating. At first, I could not get along with my classmate in my former school. However, my social nature saw me talk with other people, which made it easier for me to settle after some few months.
1. As I was going through the tour, I saw that healthcare was taken seriously. The immigrants were all checked on their health to see if it was safe for them to come to America. Although it was unfortunate for those who did not pass the inspection, I do think it was a good idea that health officials checked for diseases. Back then illness was a major issue and it was commonly spread to others. I would hate to be a passenger on the ship along with the other thousands of people. For those who did not speak English, there were interpreters available to help translate. I thought that this was good as I did not expect such resources would be available for those of a lower social class. What I found interesting were the many questions that were
My parents moved to the United States when I was a toddler. They had to leave their country because of economic instabilities. They came here to seek opportunities that they could not in Ecuador. They proved to me that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. My ambition in academics is a way of proving to my family that I can accomplish my goals.
I moved to America from Albania when I was little. English was not my first language so, I had to learn it by practicing my fellow classmates' example. I was a part of HILT, High-Intensity Language Training, in elementary school to help my language barriers. Before middle school began, teachers thought I no longer needed HILT. It was because I had worked hard to get be in the same place most other students were in. In high school, I found things I was passionate about. In my sophomore year, I joined Future Business Leaders of America and became joined the mentor
Ha and the refugees that are immigrating to the U.S. where they are all hoping to flee from the war back home in Vietnam, the refugees do not know that they will encounter many challenges such as discrimination and bullying along the way to the american dream.Ha is being bullied at school and she claims that, “They pulled my arm hair, they threw rocks at me, they promised to stomp on my chest.”Lai, (151).Furthermore this explains how Ha is being bullied because she is different from the other children in the U.S. the author uses the example that they threw rocks at me to explain what they did to her. Furthermore the pilgrims had to go through a lot, “They had fled to America because of religious persecution in their homeland”Gevert (2). This
religious persecution. America was a great place to travel to, because of its freedom of religion bill, which was passed in 1786. This bill allowed anyone to have the religion they desired, and also granted
As far as I am concerned, moving to the United States has taught me a lot. Indeed, even though I had already come to this country several times before for vacation, there are a lot of aspects that I had not thought about. For instance, its people, their mentalities, the culture, the system especially in education. When I first arrived, I had a hard time transitioning from the French to the American system. In addition, the
Living in the United States with a limited understanding of the English language is a challenge that countless foreigners have suffered with when pursuing a new life. Luckily for me, my parents made the decision to emigrate to America while I was only five years old. This decision allowed me to adapt to a new language while my mind was still young, and much more capable of learning it quickly. Mastering basic words and sentence structures wasn’t much of an issue, but when it came to expressing my thoughts I always felt as if lexicon was inferior to those around me. Simple and flavorless adjectives such as good, bad, and sad became were frequent options when trying to express my opinion. At the time, this never seemed to inconvenience me as I was young and
Shannon L. Alder once said, “If you were born with the ability to change someone’s perspective or emotions, never waste that gift. It is one of the most powerful gifts God can give- the ability to influence.” This quote above has always been my favorite line of admiration. Up until now, I have been influenced by a lot of people, but the person that I admire most is my older sister, Nhi.

Arriving in a new country was exciting and discomforting. America is a wonderful place to live, which is full of adventure and challenges. I was attracted by the Western culture. Meanwhile, different languages also troubled me. Although I began to learn English in elementary school from ABC, my listening and oral abilities tend not to be adequate. I have to study hard to improve my English, so that I can understand what the people said.
The most memorable event in my life was when we moved out from Russia to a country that changes lives and is known as a dream land called the United States of America. When we sat on the airplane that was going toward the United States in August of 2004, we knew our lives are going to be changed in the way we always wanted them to. After twelve years of not going to school and being discriminated by Russian citizens, this moving to a new country was the most amazing, not just in my life generally, but for my entire family as well.
Even with such a situation, my mom saw this as an opportunity rather than an obstacle and began college in spite of her lack of English. My mom, who always had such appreciation for this country, said that, “In America if you work hard, you can accomplish anything.”
have to overcome. I am very lucky to get the support from my family. I know that that it is common for Americans to live and take care of themselves after they are eighteen years old. It would have been extremely difficult for me to stay on my own during that period. With the support from my family and other people like my high school teachers and counselors, I can overcome those difficulties and build the foundation for my future in a new land.
