My writing skills improve the more I write. Challenging myself on several essays about a single topic, and meet page requirements pushed me further. I notice the more I conditioned myself avoiding ‘crutch verbs’ the more professional my essays read. I now naturally avoid crutch verbs in all my writing, they occur much less frequently in other places, like social media as well. I learned the hard way that all-nighters diminish my writing capabilities, and that procrastination can cause a lot of stress if not done right. Learning how write better MLA citations also progressed my research paper skill, though after this class I will mostly write with the APA citation method. The required book, “Brief Penguin Handbook” will assist my writing even
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
Typically, after being assigned an essay, my first step used to be sitting in front of the computer and starting to type aimlessly with no specific goal in my mind. This process usually ends up taking hours, and I do not end up accomplishing much at the end. This year, I plan to formulate a new process that will hopefully improve my writing exceptionally. Breaking down the essay writing into pieces will result in quality content. The writing process that I devised incorporates some of the basic elements of writing such as: prewriting, revising, and editing.
This semester has been an eye opener to me about how I formulate ideas and outlines to my papers and visual works. My writing style and skills have gone through many changes throughout English 150 but by far there have been three areas where I have seen the most improvement. How I compose and formulate my works, using certain resources and how I integrated them into my paper, how I edit those works, and how well I use the advice and guidance from my peers to help me revise or complete my works.
When I first started college I knew my reading and writing skills were proficient, but I wasn’t 100% confident in my speaking skills. Luckily, I had come to the right place. After just 2 semesters I am now a very strong speaker excelling in volume and pacing during speeches. When it comes to my reading skills I can sometimes lose focus if the material isn't very interesting, but for the most part I do just fine. Finally, writing is a field that I can sometimes struggle in for one major reason. This is mainly because I am a horrible procrastinator, this causes me to have a lot less time to proofread as many others do. This leads me to my main goals for this class. As you can imagine, one of them is to strengthen my
The use of technology has made learning to write more difficult for me. I am quite dependent on technology for pretty much everything I do, my writing skills has bottomed out with little or no progress since freshman year of high school. Throughout high school we spent very little time on writing assignments that had to be completed during class, therefore causing a little bit of laziness on my part. Improving my grammer and spelling is a challenge for me, because the microsoft word software automatically corrects all your errors. I am so dependent on the software to correct my errors that I halfway try to produce an excellent paper. As long as you got most of the spelling correct Google can basically auto correct and if you don't even
Occasionally, I practice my writing skills by writing short stories. Since I am not a creative person, it’s difficult for me to come up with fresh ideas. Hopefully in college, I will be discovering many new things to gain ideas for my stories. With these ideas, I will love to write longer stories and hope to publish it one day. In the future, I will love to learn new skills and find new different words. I will also collaborate with people who have the same goal as me to help each other grow. I believe that reading and writing can bring people closer. I want people to realize that reading and writing are another way to escape the reality.
Ever since the first grade i have had awful handwriting. Over the years my handwriting slowly improved but not by much. You can read it much easier now than back when i was younger. So when i asked myself what me as a writer looked liked my first thought was not a very good writer. I struggle a lot with my handwriting skills i tried my best to make it look good and readable, but most of the time i end up writing to fast and then it turned very sloppy and was hard to read. I prefer to type on the computer to write my papers then to hand write all of my english assignments.

My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class, particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
It's good to be open to learn new habits to improve your writing skills. I agree that it is important to practice everyday for it to become your new habit. That is why they are called habits. It's a word that usually have a negative connotation tied to it but not all the time. I have a habit to look over the paper multiple times, too, to correct it. Usually I tend to overlook my mistakes, though. Nice to hear that you're are developing good writing
Every good writer needs a solid foundation to be successful. This is true for both professional and informal communication. Your level of education is reflected in your writing style. If it contains many grammatical errors and lacks structure it can be perceived that you are not a very good writer. For years, I thought I didn’t need any formal education. That was a big mistake that is now in the process of being corrected. This course has started to help me communicate more efficiently as a business professional and be more effective in my academic studies. Knowing the writing process and carefully developing good writing habits are critical for growth as a writer. Over the past several weeks I have embraced the challenge to refine my writing
The main goal for English III was to become a better writer, improve in writing skills, and be prepared for English 112. I will be talking about my improvements and also my struggles with writing. Throughout the course I have made progress, but I have also struggled with certain skills. Although my writing skills improved there is still room for greater improvement in time management. As I continue to improve and set goals to accomplish, I expect myself to be successful in more challenges to come. Writing skills, strengths and weaknesses, and also reflective writing helps an individual realize what they need to work on, how they can improve, and also to not make the same mistake.
Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally.
Coming into an “introductory” English course, I was completely oblivious to what was coming my way. In my head, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of basic grammar and composition. Although I already did, new material and tips assisted me throughout the semester to improve my paper writing skills overall. I however thought we were going to be involved in more in-depth writing skills rather than learning where to add a comma or semicolon. This isn’t implying that they weren’t helpful at all, I really did understand the usage of semicolons and colons much more than I have previously thought I have, however, I wish we focused on skills that could be used in every situation. What skills? Not sure, I haven’t learned them yet, or I have yet to be introduced to such skills that could make my writing skills look from amateur level, to a college professor level. My grade isn’t exactly where I would want it to be, it isn’t a bad grade at all, however I feel like I could of taken this introductory course a bit more serious to have easily being to achieve a high grade.
If you’re a parent or teacher whose pupil has a problem with writing skills, it can be a frustrating experience. He/she may be falling behind peers in class, getting poor grades and even acting out due to negative feedback, that’s why this study was conducted. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of writing process in improving written expression skills of Grade IV pupils in Aglayan Elementary School.
