Chapter the First: In Which Alice Happens upon a Rather Curious Box of Graph G (Sine) At precisely 12:22 AM, Alice felt her eyelids begin to droop. It had been a long day of school, clubs and homework; everything was beginning to take its toll on her body in the form of dreaded fatigue. With a test on trigonometric functions the next day (or this coming morning, rather) Alice was not so keen on falling asleep so early - or late, since the concept of a scheduled bedtime was practically non-existent for students like her. But, she thought as she put down her pencil and laid her head on a particularly bulky precalculus textbook, maybe I should take a small nap. Just a small one. And then I’ll finish studying when I wake up. As Alice drifted off to sleep, her drumming heartbeat soon slowed to a steady, peaceful rate. Her house was quiet with her being the only one up so late, but it wasn’t before long when she heard a whoosh! and a strange sensation of cool wind rushing all around her. At first, she ignored it and kept her eyes closed. Probably her stupid brother trying to take advantage of her being asleep and playing pranks on her. He was an awful kid but she knew that if she just him, he would stop. Except…would he really be up this late? Uncertainty crossed her mind. Slowly, she opened an eye. …show more content…
By the time she had realized that, upon closer examination, the circles were really just unit circles with all its degrees and points written neatly besides each appropriate spot on the circle, she had quieted down and looked around her with bewildered eyes. Where was she? How did she get here? Where did this tunnel lead to? Was that a floor she could now see below her? And most importantly - why were there unit circles and mathematical symbols floating
My eyes open. A crisp, cold wind blows through my my window and hits my face. The whistle of the fall air flows through one ear and out the other. It was quiet. The sound of nothingness was fiercely stopped by the blaring on my alarm clock. October 13, 2015, at 9:30 AM, I roll over and hit my alarm clock, The repetitive sound disappears. I throw my sheets to the side and step onto the cold wooden floor. I grab a pair of
Imagine, if you will, a brisk night wind coming fast across a lake carrying a pungent smell, something you can’t quite identify, but is nonetheless familiar enough to send a shiver up your spine. As it hits the trees, they creak out a somber call in the still night air. Or was that groan something more…human? You notice, for the first time, the absence of tires humming on pavement and you wonder if it’s that late, or maybe just a slow night. The soft tapping of your shoes on the sidewalk is the only accompaniment your slow breathing has as you move towards the warmth of your home, holding thoughts of a warm bed in the palm of your hand to keep the chill away. You don’t notice at first, perhaps because the reality of what you’re hearing is
One cold and crisp Tuesday morning, Tommy wakes up at 6 o’clock to the sound of his alarm blaring. Papers scattered throughout his room, his laptop on his bedside table and his textbooks thrown all over the soft carpeting, Tommy’s room looks like an utter mess. He sits up, smacks the alarm clock to stop its harsh noise, and sighs loudly before hopping in the shower. After getting four hours of sleep, he would rather just go back to bed before going to school for the next eight hours.
“For the next two days, Audrey lay in bed, trying to catch up on her sleep and stressing over taking sick days for the first time in her two and a half years of highschool.” (177)
In a fit of rage and frustration, Daniel Howell shove the unorganized pile of schoolwork and textbooks away from him, resulting in numerous packets and other assignments to collapse onto the floor after falling off his desk. Dan angrily runs his hands through his greasy, curly hair and down his face as he sighs exhaustively. Glancing at the clock, he becomes aware that it reads 3:37 a.m., and he has to wake up and get ready for his classes on campus in less than three hours. As much as he dreams of crawling into his warm, comfortable bed and falling asleep, he knows he must complete every bit of his homework for tomorrow (well, more like today) before he is able to. However, for the past few nights, Dan has been unconsciously sleeping on his
Due to classes starting later in the day, it will affect the way students act in class. "I know many students that come in and are just struggling to stay awake," she
Nathan reflected that glimpsing back on her time as a student, there were certainly times that she stayed up too late in order to complete an assignment or study for a quiz that was the next day, and that there might not be enough time between classes for students to have something to
In the passage, it says that they started later the people got more sleep. It says, “They shifted the time from 7:25 am to 8:30 am”. The school started to get results as soon as they changed the time and those who did not see it did over time see those who slept in the class did not do so as
Every morning at 6 o’clock sharp, Anarosa’s alarm let out a horrible screeching noise that flooded across the entire apartment. Cecilia would already be up, Teresa would sleep through it, and Diana would insist on having nothing interrupting her beauty rest (even though her so-called “beauty rest” consisted of a 4 hour cat nap on the couch whenever she got home from partying). Anarosa would drag her ass out of bed, wishing for more sleep, but knowing she needed to get ready for her morning shift at work. She rarely took work off, and if she wasn’t waking up at 6, she was waking up a little later than that for her classes.
She sat down, and thought about what just happened. Alice fell through a book. She saw doors opening to new worlds. New musical pieces discovered, colors that broadened her view on everything. She wondered if this was all just dream. Everything looked surreal.
“I just hope I don’t have any more nightmares. I have not had a good night’s sleep in a long time,” Veronica definitely looked put her hand over her mouth and yawned, “I am going to my room.”
Thesis Statement: When the projects, exams, and extra-curricular activities start to pile up on one another it seems as though there is not enough time in the day. This is when college students tend to lose precious hours of sleep and the consequences can be costly.
“Thump….thump!” My heart beat slowly and consistently started to regain its normal beats per minute. As I prepared myself to awaken from my serene slumber, I was startled by an anonymous shadow like entity that startled me awake. I struggled to pry open my eyes. I was met by the sight of the comfort of my home.
On most Tuesdays, freshman Amanda Moeller tries to wake up around 5 AM to have a decent breakfast, study her scriptures, and get ready for her first class. December 5, however, didn’t start out quite as she planned it. With the time reading 6:10 AM on her alarm clock, Moeller had to forgo her typical schedule just to make it to class on time.
Once it was a rainy, stormy, just all in all a dreadful day, and Bellamin was loving it. They couldn 't believe how much the dreary outside had made the once dreary inside of they 're resting place so much nicer. They could hear the rain splatter on the ground above them, and the frogs chirping in the creek a few blocks over. Bellamin loved this moment, as they loved every moment, as they loved every moment since they had become awakened. That was a moment they could not remember however; it was more like the sleepy crawl of your own memories starting at some non existent but totally real point some time in your toddler years. And Bellamin knew as much as a toddler waking from a slumber would know, that they had to get up. And so they
