In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.
From two perspectives, we see a world plagued by the ignoble aspects of human nature. Through one set of eyes we are shown the global ecosystem imitating the opening motions of a mass extinction, through another we see the inevitable and hellish effects of culturalized greed. In both cases we are treated to the observations of an aggrieved observer, but the means by which these observers show us their perspective on the world are by no means identical. Here we will explore the strategies, expressions, argumentations, and appeals of two authors with intertwining stories to tell.

The United States, as many believe, is the land of opportunity, however, when looking at individual states, towns, and cities, this popular slogan may seem false to some. Within each state, all schools, such as middle and high schools, may not receive or offer equity. In an effort to revel inequalities within school systems, I will discuss the differences between schools in my town, the apparent lack of public concern about schooling inequality, and what changes could be made in an effort to reduce schooling inequality.

As part of the upper class in our global community, I cannot even begin to understand what living in extreme poverty and hunger must be like. While people in poor, undeveloped countries work all day at backbreaking jobs for just enough money to feed their families, I attend school to enhance my education so I can continue to enjoy the privileges of my wealth. My family is actually considered to be in the lower-middle class in the United States, but we still have two cars, a three-bedroom townhome, and disposable income we use for recreation and various luxuries. Compared to those who live in extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, I live like a king. It would be nothing for me to donate 100 dollars to a charity foundation such as Oxfam that feeds the hungry to save some lives, but should I?
Mr. Collins incorrectly uses logical and emotional appeals when asking for Elizabeth’s hand in marriage, which will probably not lead to his desired result. Mr. Collins is very direct and business-like with his proposal, starting his appeal with the words “my reasons for marrying are”. He then lists out facts about why he needs to marry her, even citing his benefactor. His word choice creates a very professional and objective tone, which may be effective in a business setting, but is not right for a romantic marriage proposal. He never mentions that he likes Elizabeth, only expressing that it’s a practical marriage. When Mr. Collins attempts an emotional appeal, he is not very successful. Mr. Collins tells Elizabeth
In her Cyberliteracy chapter “Humor, Hoaxes, and Legends in Cyberspace,” Gurak suggests that digitally literate individuals can determine whether content accessed online is authentic or not using rhetorical analysis skills. Her work focuses primarily on discerning parody and chain emails in early, unidirectional web environments (Gurak, 2001). Determining the authenticity of health information and products online have become inherently more difficult with Web 2.0, particularly due to the collaborative and interactive nature of this type web environment. Additionally, acting on untrue advice can have serious and lasting impacts on an individual’s health. However, I argue that refined understanding and application of ethos (authority) and logos
My “best” piece is my rhetorical analysis written about a high school senior’s controversial yearbook picture. I feel that this essay in particular is the best one I wrote because it demonstrates both my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. This essay was one of the more difficult ones to write. At the beginning of the semester we focused on primarily on personal writing, “showing not telling” and the use of colorful language. For this essay, however, we focused on the academic knowledge, logic and criticism aspects of writing. Admittedly so, I disliked writing this essay. Writing this essay was a new experience for me because I had never focused on the negative aspects of someone else’s work. Re-reading my essay multiple times after receiving feedback from you made me question myself.
Analysis 1 is a well-supported analysis of the technical and aesthetic aspects of Solnit’s paragraph, which determines it to be ‘well-written’. Discussing which of the ten explaining/exploring methods are used could improve analysis. Also, consider in-text references for direct quotes.
Katie was given the Brigance Sentence-Writing Grade-Placement Test on 4/13/2016 which measures the highest grade level a student can construct sentences accurately in content and mechanics with given grade level vocabulary. Katie received no prompting to review her work other than to ask her if she was done so her work could be checked to determine if she could continue to the next sample. Based on her overall performance, Katie was able to compose accurate sentences up to a 6th grade level. Katie correctly capitalized the beginning of every sentence and applied the correct ending punctuation. In all of her samples, she missed one comma which was after the dependent clause in a complex sentence. None of her errors affected the meaning of her
This is a very ironic circumstance considering the McDonald's corporation prides themselves on the fact that everything they do is uniform. It looks the same it tastes the same, and it was thought to be made the exact same way.
