Mental Health for young Australians is believed to be one of the top three issues throughout Australia. It is defined as our emotional, psychological and social-wellbeing. According to the World Health Organisation, mental health is when every individual comes to understand their own potential of which can cope with the normal stresses of everyday life, can work efficiently and is able to contribute to their own community (Beyond Blue Ltd, 2016). It has been estimated that each year about one in every five Australians have some sort of mental illness. Some of the main types include; depression, anxiety, bipolar, personality disorders, trauma, eating disorders and schizophrenia. The most common are thought to be anxiety and depressive disorders.

The latest information of Mental Health is suggested to be how you can improve your own health. This could be by talking about your feelings to your friends or family, keeping active, eat and drinking well, asking for help or taking a break. By applying these to your daily life, it will help improve your levels of stress. It has also been suggested that more Australian teenagers today are in severe psychological distress than five years ago. Mission Australia’s 2016 youth survey findings says that “about 22.8% of young Australians aged between both 15 and 19 show symptoms of having a mental illness”.
