In the informative speech, I didn’t many things that were admired and distracting during the speech, and I hope to improve on those distracting interrupting acts on my next speech. During the speech, I did some items that were a little distracting through the speech. As I watched my speech I noticed I had some awkward pauses, bad transitions, some um’s, and a little stuttering throughout the speech. If you look at the speech I tend to stutter which is a little distracting. Talking about the festival Diwali I talk about Rangoli and its colored pattern I stutter and forget what I am explaining. Another thing I could improve on is my transitions when hearing the speech, the transitions are a little rough and not as smooth. During the transition when I switch from talking about the celebrations to the language I say, “with all these celebrations it tends to bring many religions and languages together” doesn’t really make sense and could be spoken a little smoother. Stuttering is also a part of the speech I did during the speech which distracting. Throughout the speech, I stutter during different parts and one of those parts being when I am talking about the different traditions when eating Indian food. I say, “some of the traditions when people eat in India are well we all we eat on our hands,” which is a little annoying. During the speech, I also said um’s during the speech. When citing my source on languages I said some ums, repeating the citation from the notecard. During the speech I had a little tough time with stuttering at moments, saying some um’s, bad transitions, and some pauses in the future I tend to improve it for the next speech. During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech
Baby Blues, the most common and mildest form of mood disorder can last up to two weeks after having a baby without the mother needing treatment.
Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be more educated on Texas’s roadside attractions, as well as relate to the sites I will discuss in my presentation.
For the informative speech, my group presented the issue of the Emerald Ash Borer. In my speech, I presented the positions of the University of Maine and Forestry Department. These were the two major positions in the speech. For my speech, I did stumble a lot, however, it was hidden by the short pauses I made throughout the speech. Also, I need better eye contact throughout the speech. My speech primarily appealed to ethos and logos, citing specific examples and presenting long qualifications.
I have shown huge improvements on delivering speeches. This process helped me to understand different kinds of speech and their expectations. The only way I can think of improving is that to get myself be confortable and to do more preparations. Therefore, the mistakes I made in this will help me to improve on the next
Do we all remember when fidget spinners were a thing? Yep, fidget spinners. Now if I were to ask you how you found out about fidget spinners, you might say from a friend, but think about this your friend probably got that exciting trend of the internet and where do you go to see all the latest trends probably YouTube and where would you find YouTube, you guessed it, on your phone. Today I’m going to talk about using your phones in class. You need to know that using your phones in class is unacceptable, using a phone to talk or text your friend, well I just can’t stand it, and don’t say you have never seen or even done it before because I know that at least 10 of you have used your phone in class. Because you all know that detention was last Tuesday.
When I was preparing for this speech, I knew I wanted to do this with a partner. Emily Struewing was the perfect partner to work with. Our goal was to pick a topic that appealed to our audience and how it would benefit our audience. Emily and I thought about issues we faced as college students and we came up with limited closet space. We did research and a survey and found out that multiple other students felt the same way. (Q.1.) The specific purpose of our speech was by the end of this speech, the audience will agree that the TechnoCloset would be a great investment for college students. I think Emily and I did well teaching the audience about our new innovation of the TechnoCloset because we gained attention, stated the needs, stated the satisfaction, and how it will benefit your future.
My introduction was quite low. Like they always say the beginning of everything is always the hardest. Later on when I continued with my speech I started to gain my audience’s attention since I became more confidence in my self than when I first started my presentation. I had my note card with me that really helped me a lot with all my points, hence I could have forgotten everything that I had prepared on the table for the day. It helped me in reviewing all my points one by one. I used the power point method as part of the requirement for the presentation. Which also helped in supporting my speech, since it gave a better understanding on what I was talking about.
One thing I really noticed I improved was my engagement with the audience. These two facets of speaking are clearly related, and they both improved for me over the course of the semester. For one of my early speeches, I got the feedback that the only person I made eye contact with was you for the entire speech. I was making an attempt at engaging with the audience, but I clearly failed. Noting this, it was something I tried especially hard to make sure I improved for my following speeches. It was at first awkward to manually move my head around the room without looking mechanical, but as I did it more and more it became natural. In my earlier speeches, you also noted that my speech pattern was very one-note, and I believe I made progress on fixing this as the year went on. The other aspect that helped me improve in this area was reducing my speaking anxiety.
We often do not realize that answering questions in class or engaging in conversations with friends or relatives represent giving information to the other person. For instance, helping peers interpret questions and directing a friend to my resident constitute informing. According to McLean (2010), we give out information when we enlightened listeners on issues not familiar with and when we teach them on issues unknown to them. To put it differently, a successful working team is one where members absorb information and transmit it clearly and accurately while ensuring the information remain interesting and meaningful to group members. It is therefore obvious that information sharing is vital growth and development instrument. Hence, this paper will discuss the purpose of a “speech to inform” followed by an account of my first experience delivering an informative speech in 2013.
Attention Getter/Event Significance: Thank you for all joining me today to accept one of the most prestigious awards out there, the “Most Likely to be Late Award.” It is truly an honor and believe I am very well deserving of this award more than anyone in this classroom.
The topic: An informative speech on the importance of diverse children’s literature and the relation of diverse children’s literature and youth literacy.
The first thing that is an important part of delivering any speech is the language that one chooses to use. On page 164 the book says that this does not just mean ensuring that the grammar is correct but choosing the words, phrases, and oratory devices best suited to the ideas being conveyed. The proper implementation of specific or concrete words can change a speech from an unfocused generalization to an informative and focused presentation. One example of such specificity in helping clarify a speech is when discussing how prevalent adult ADHD is instead of merely saying the statistic (2.5%) to actually explained how many people that would be worldwide. This would help by giving the listener some context of the sheer number of people that I was discussing rather than a vague idea based on an unrelatable percentage.

While watching my speeches, I noticed in the beginning that most of my thoughts weren’t organized. The first speeches that I had done weren’t as organized as the speeches that I had done towards the end of the semester. I noticed that I appeared less nervous when giving my speech on how to create a simple webpage by writing HTML. I went through each individual step starting with the creation of a simple webpage and then showing what else could be done to turn it into a complex one. I think out of all of the speeches that I had done, that was the best one I had done throughout the semester. I was required to use two sources during that demonstration speech however, I forgot to say where I got the information from while giving my speech. I noticed that I forgot to cite my sources multiple times or I didn’t cite them correctly throughout my speeches. When demonstrating or showing examples about my topic, I used PowerPoint Presentations for the majority of my speeches. I did not use one for my HTML demonstration speech. I used Notepad++ instead to show how webpages are scripted and created.
The power of a speech can be remembered for a lifetime. It is not what you say, but how you say it. You want to give a speech that they will remember, therefore, it is all about the details in your speech. Knowing whom you will be speaking to and the knowledge they already know is important. You want to inform the audience, not give them the basic information they already know. That will not engage
