Continuity of the Witch's Craft lay within its ability to shift its shape accordingly to any given time, culture or belief within society spanning back thousands of years. Being an adversarial magical art, both practice and bless, classical witchcraft is seeded in our ancestral memory and boils to the surface during times of oppression and suffering. This was spearheaded by the late Gerald B. Gardner to smooth public relations in a time when British witchcraft laws were being repealed and the modern counter-currents were making headway in music, cinema, literature, social justice, and art.

Many English "witches" convicted of consorting with demons seem to have been cunning folk whose fairy familiars had been demonised;[31] many French devins-guerisseurs("diviner-healers") were accused of witchcraft,[32] and over one half the accused witches in Hungary seem to have been healers.[33]Some of the healers and diviners historically accused of witchcraft have considered themselves mediators between the mundane and spiritual worlds, roughly equivalent to shamans.[34] Such people described their contacts with fairies, spirits often
