Our bone tissues are made of a much harder substance than the cartilage, but they can be worn away by friction. They are tough on the outside, but on the inside they have a sponge-like design that helps to reduce the weight while retaining strength. They are designed to maintain the body’s structure and support the body’s movement and are used to protect weaker tissues, such as the brain, lungs and heart.

The integumentary system or skin is our body’s largest organ, which weighs 20 pounds or more, accounting for about 16% of total body weight (Thibodeau, 2014, p.93). According to Thibodeau (2014 p. 145) the:

The integumentary system is the skin and its derivatives; it provides external protection for the body. Its characteristics are: covers the entire body, accounts for about 7% of total body weight, pliable, yet durable, thickness: 1.5 to 4.0 mm, composed of the epidermis and dermis.

The body temperature is also maintained within this layer by insulating the body to the temperature fluctuations.

The integumentary system is the organ system that protects the body from damage, and consists of skin and its appendages: hair, nails, sebaceous glands and sweat glands. The skin is our body’s covering, and is the largest organ of the body.

The organisation of the body is cell, tissue, organ, system and within the body there are many types of tissues. The four main tissues within the body are: epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue. Tissue is a group of cells which are similar to one another and carry out specific functions. Intersession is a great and fun experience. I loved intersession right after I did it for the first time this year. Intersession includes remediation and fun different classes. I love it because I got to make new friends and meet new teachers. Remediation helps with subjects you’re struggling on and you do this class for about an hour so you’re learning. Intersession is a school activity we do for three days. It’s important and exciting at the same time. It deals with activities such as scrapbooking, dancing, sports, etc. These classes are a fun way to learn and do at the same time.
