IV. Intervention
Therapeutic sessions assist in enhancing the member’s individual’s thoughts as well as those they are building relationships with. The support that they have from family, friends, significant others and the community is essential in their well-being as interactions with others are crucial for development of a sense of self (Meyer, 2003).
Individual therapy will assist with creating and maintaining a healthy relationship with one’s self. It helps those that have not fully developed a self-identity or understanding of their own thoughts and feelings about themselves and how their body is functioning. It also assist with helping them to come out as many are afraid that they may lose their racial/ethnic support system as a result
Individual therapy is what most think of as laying on a couch and talking to a counselor as they doodle pictures and let the client come to their own conclusions. In a way this
As social workers, it is important to study the entire aspect of the individual. We must examine the individual past and see if their condition is trauma-related. It is the job of the social worker to identify the issue, in this case it would be a person who suffers from a mental illness and is placed in isolation when in jail or person and find the best solution for that issue. The solution to the issue may not be what’s written in a handbook or what we were thought, but sometimes we must find alternate resolutions. While we may not have the answers to combat the issue; if as social workers we could find the root cause of the issue that may help in the intervention process.
There have been several policy-level measures to address the environment of the health care system and how it contributes to health disparities. First, as seen in Figure 3, the uninsured rate in the United States has declined by 43% following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA. According to National Health Interview Survey data, the increases in insurance coverage under the ACA were substantial across all races and ethnicities [11], increasing access to care for minorities which is an essential step in eliminating disparities. More notably, the ACA has also designated funding towards the diversification of the workforce. These measures took form in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Disparities Action
In general, significant and growing numbers of individuals and families face substantial economic challenges and as a consequence, mental health challenges. Lower income group including minorities and immigrants experience a higher burden of health-related concerns. People who are homeless do exhibit several of these risk factors because of their living situations, including alcohol and drug abuse, which is common in this neighborhood. Immigrants who do not speak English well may be afraid to seek mental health care if they are undocumented. For these reasons and more, the project is crucial to the underserved people of this community. The groups targeted for outreach through this project are among the most underserved and most vulnerable group
Across the country, new tools are being provided to states, localities, and community-based helping professionals to aid with the development of policies and prevention interventions designed to meet individuals in their environment and develop frameworks such as trauma-informed services that are tailored towards the private health and human services field to enhance the human services system’s ability to deliver person and family centered services in a cost effective manner.
American Intervention not only occurred overseas but at home, in 1932 Washington D.C. Troops was deployed to stop the Army WW I Veterans bonus Protest. In Detroit 1943, troops deployed to put down a black rebellion. In 1967 troops were deployed in Detroit once again to put down an African American riot, 43 people killed. In the early 1960’s the United Stated returned to its pre-World War II intervention role in the Caribbean, directing the failed 1961 Bay of Pigs, invasions of Cuba. In 1965, there was a Marine invasion of the Dominican Republic during an election. The CIA trained and harbored Cuban exile groups in Miami which launched terrorist attacks in Cuba. During the Cold War the CIA also assisted in supporting and installing
Setting events, antecedents and consequences are all included in development of a hypothesis. It restates the interfering behavior while describing the behavior and determining its function. The setting events of this behavior is he home of Emilia and her family. Emilia is tired form cleaning, cooking and watching the kids all day without adult interaction. The maintaining consequences for this behavior is that once she has an outburst, the children leave her alone and Emilia is able to resume her conversation with her husband. Based on this information and the data collected, Emilia appears to be trying to avoid the interruption from her children. She yells so she can escape their interruption. The behavior is negatively reinforced because after yells the children leave her alone so she is getting what she wants by yelling. The need to escape from the interruption is the function of the behavior. There is enough evidence to develop a hypothesis statement. One could conclude this as a hypothesis statement: In an effort to maintain adult
For each of the areas of occupation, can you provide examples of appropriate performance-based intervention activities for a client who has a mental illness?
As the increase in ethnic and racial minorities continue, so do the increase in health disparities among individuals with diabetes (Hispanic or Latino, 2014). Many interventions are currently being used in healthcare settings to help prevent further health complications among minorities with diabetes (Peek, Cargil, & Huang, 2007). A study by Peek, Cargil, & Huang (2007), titled, “Diabetes Health Disparities: A systemic Review of Health Care Interventions”, further examined the importance of education in the overall management of diabetes, and it’s improvement to better health outcomes (Peek, Cargil, & Huang, 2007). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the researchers report on its background of study, methods of study, results of study, and its ethical considerations towards diabetes health disparities.
Although the worker failed to identify with some of the issues the resident of the long-term care facility was having to be a potentially harmful situation moving forward it is evident that they used a lack of professionalism to report the matter due to future risks. “Patricia Stone, Arlene Smaldone, and Robert Lucero (2011) reports nurses are in the position of being “at the sharp end” of health care interventions by being the patient's advocate, providing care that may result in an error, or witnessing the error(s) of other clinicians. Accidents, errors, and adverse outcomes result from a chain of events involving human decisions and actions associated with active failures and latent failures. Many of these failures are associated with individual
The one thing that I disagreed with, and will use immediately from this module is a statement that was made in the Evaluation of a Intervention. The module stated that if trained staff are not available to evaluate a intervention, contact evaluating firms for good ideas. I disagree with that statement, because I strongly believe that clients should be the ones who evaluate the intervention. The clients are the ones who are affected by the intervention, and constructive criticism offers valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of social workers. Not all interventions may work for everyone, but if an intervention was helpful for most clients, then it should be used again in the future. Also, evaluations on the performance of the social
Many different methodologies have been proposed over the years to try and create the proper interventions and plans related to health systems. Some have worked better than others, but in the end, it is clear that a lot of work still has to be done.
As a clinician, we can come up with the best interventions. But, it is only going to be successful if the patient understands the intervention and implement correctly. In order to patients understand the information provided, a clinical need to speak the language and understand the culture of their patients (Benjamin, 2010). Pender, Murdaugh, and Parsons (2010) recommends few strategies for delivering health care information. The one I am going to us the most is breaking down complex information into small, understanding chunks. Regardless how much the information is simplified, remembering all the information is almost impossible. Therefore, I also going to provide a written handout according to the patient's literacy level or repeat the
I think public health interventions are mainly responsible for improvements in health status of mothers and infants because there are few changes that has been happened in environmental interventions, health related education and overall economic growth. In early 20th century, the vaccines and antibiotics were not invented, so the main focus was to educate people and help them in family planning.
Social work intervention is the practice of working with people in a different ways supporting them to become more independent. While working with P I had to develop a professional relationship using a person centred approach. Person centred approached (PCA) was developed by Carl Rogers (1961) and is psychodynamic approach used when working with people. For PCA to be effective there needs to be three main principles that are I had to use be understating, give unconditional positive regard and be genuine.
