The imagery was one from the imaginative instruments the writer used to describe his experience. “In the flood of light against white tile, the face and shoulders of a stranger—a fierce, bald, very dark Negro—glared at me from the glass. In this entry Griffin characterize the first impression when he saw himself in the mirror, he is stunned to understand or perceive that he is himself, as he saw himself, he hated himself. His response demonstrates that Griffin shows unfavorable generalizations about black individuals. All traces of the John Griffin I had been were wiped from existence” (10). The author describes his experience as being trapped in a stranger’s body even though he was only disguising. This imagery helped the story by explaining the real feeling of Griffin. Last but not least, Griffin though that he will forget the illusion, but he could not as he became more aware of his situation than ever. “When my wife answered, the strangeness of my situation again swept over me. I talked with her and the children as their husband and father, while reflected in the glass windows of the booth I saw another man they would not know. At this time, when I wanted most to lose the illusion, I was more than ever aware of it, aware that I was not the man she knew, but a stranger who spoke with the same voice and had the same memory.”(119). St this point Griffin is stuck with his illusion despite that he was talking to his family the only thing in life that should keep him attached to his original personality.
