Iron Man is a Marvel character that appears in Iron Man (2008), Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), and Captain America: Civil War (2016). The actual character, Tony Stark goes through one of the most interesting, and genuine character arcs in film history. He starts out as the “Genius billionaire playboy philanthropist”, turned superhero via a technologically advanced suit, eventually becoming a victim of post traumatic stress disorder. Psychoanalytic criticism is a lens that scholars use to traverse deeper into the meaning of a text, and also “Adopts the methods of "reading" employed by Freud and later theorists to interpret texts. It argues that literary texts, like dreams, express the secret unconscious desires and anxieties of the …show more content…
Using this technology, he changes in his mind what really happened on that day, his mother even saying about his father “He does miss you when you’re gone. And frankly you’re going to miss us. Because this is the last time we’re all going to be together. You know what’s about to happen. Say something. If you don’t you’ll regret it” (13:59-14:16). Stark goes on to explain to students at MIT that BARF is “An extremely costly method of hijacking the hippocampus to clear traumatic memories. It doesn’t change the fact that they never made it to the airport, or all the things I did to avoid processing my grief” (14:52-15:12). Stark experiences his first traumatic event, when he is 21 and uses coping methods that are undoubtedly unhealthy. Dr. Andrea Letamendi, a Clinical Psychologist, scientist, and convention speaker explains a traumatic event is, “The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) defines a “traumatic event” as one that involves actual or threatened death or serious injury or threat to the physical integrity of oneself or others” (Letamendi). Stark says that he did a lot of things to avoid processing grief. Stark, however, seems very emotionally stable, albeit maybe a little narcissistic in Iron Man. Stark was initially designed as a stable man who has everything he could possibly want. Over time Stark progressively becomes less and less mentally stable, until he reaches the tipping point, and develops PTSD.
In the film “The Iron Giant” the characters teach us two main lessons about life. The biggest, most important lesson that you can get out of this film is that you can be whoever you want to be. It is really important to be yourself because if you just play the role of someone that you aren’t people will never see the real you. We also learn that violence does not fix anything. Violence is never the answer and in this film the characters showcase that idea very well. I believe that you should be able to choose to be whoever you want to be, even if it means changing who you are and resisting programing.
In the novel The Running Man, the author Michael Bauer highlights the experiences of three characters whose voices are misrepresented in the text. Tom Leyton has many dark secrets that he has kept hidden from everyone. Mrs Mossop’s painful childhood has also had an impact on her negative thoughts on Tom Leyton. Joseph Davidson is an introvert whose personal struggles impact on his self esteem and friendships at school. Techniques such as silkworm metaphor and motif represent their lives and how they play out during the novel,
The fight for justice is not always unequivocal or favorable, sometimes justice is given by means that do not seem fair at all. William Styron says in a novel that life “is a search for justice.” It is blatant that throughout Khaled Hosseini's novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, female characters are continuously battered with injustices. Hosseini hones into the oppression of women and the fight for women empowerment through the life of one of his main characters, Mariam. Her journey is shown throughout the novel where she struggles to search for and understand justice.
In the movie, ‘Silver linings Playbook’ Pat Solitano is diagnosed with clinical bipolar disorder 1 and struggles with stress-induced manic outbursts. This is revealed by a manic episode where Solitano is seen to almost beat to death a co-worker, who he caught cheating on with is wife. The repercussion of Solitano’s actions results in termination of his job, estrangement from his wife who takes out a restraining order and sees Solitano institutionalized for eight months in a psychiatric hospital.
Take for instance, Roger, a character from the novel, Lord of the Flies who is a sadistic person, finding pleasure in hurting others. Do you really believe that even if he was in a group where he finds himself to be part of a dangerous situation and he is needed to save one of the other boys, say Piggy for example, that he would do it? Of course not. He has proven to us that he enjoys inflicting harm on others, especially someone like Piggy. Golding himself states in Lord of the Flies, “A full effort would send the rock thundering down to neck of land. Roger admired.” (Golding 159). What Golding is saying is that Roger wants to harm Piggy so with that in mind, he finds that the rock is the best thing to achieve what he wants. It follows then that the kind of personality that the person has will either get them to help someone out or get them to harm them as well. Someone like Ralph and Piggy, who have more sympathy towards those that get hurt would be more willing to help out than someone like Roger and Jack. Roger and Jack are more of the kind to not help others out unless it benefits them or gives them pleasure in inflicting pain upon someone else in Roger’s case, but this is where we can see every person is different. It is not just that responsibility has been unconsciously passed on to someone else. Nevertheless, it would have been beneficial in Darley’s and Latane’s case to include both external and internal contributions as to why people decided not to aid another
Fear can motivate you to do something or stop you. One way is when doing something you know someone will do it. Why do people treat people different based off your tragedy Based off the movie Cool Hand Luke’s mom died, his partners gave him respect by leaving the room and the one of boss workers locked Luke in the box to grieve. People just don’t know how to react But we shouldn’t let fear stop us. Like going back to Antigone when Ismene burried her family relative she really didnt know what to do and she just did what was suppose to be done, what her mind told her to.
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys suddenly become stranded on an island, all alone, forced to form their own social system. Throughout the novel, William Golding reveals his main character 's strengths and weaknesses in their attempts to lead. The character Piggy demonstrates the benefits and limits of intelligence in maintaining civil order.
When left to themselves without laws or consequences for their actions, humans reveal an ugly and chaotic side of themselves. This horrid side of humans is ultimately lead by Sigmund Freud’s concept of the human ID, which describes the evil and twisted side of the human mind. This concept of inevitable anarchy due to a lack of laws is exhibited in William Golding’s novel, Lord of The Flies. Through notable characters such as Jack, Roger, Ralph, and Piggy, Golding elucidates how even once civilized, people can immediately change based on their environment. The lack of a strong government and strict laws leads these boys into an ultimate anarchic war which threatens their survival and their chances of getting rescued from the island. Multiple characters such as Piggy, get killed due to this lack and inability of the boys to follow 18th century philosopher, Cesare Beccaria’s, belief of a strong judicial system to hold people accountable for their actions. The boys responsible for Piggy’s death (Roger and other hunters) are simply let go without any punishments or consequences. Eventually, this barbarous and savage war almost leads to the island being devastated by a fire created by Jack’s tribe to capture Ralph for simply trying to bring back law to the island. Fortunately, the boys are saved by a naval officer who was able to spot the large bonfire. Although the boys try their best to implement Cesare Beccaria’s idea of a strong judicial system to have effective consequences
In the 2010 remake of “True Grit”, Mattie the main character is looking to take revenge on the man that killed her father with the help of a man named Cogburn, who is the town’s local deputy marshal. After finally convincing Cogburn to help find her father’s killer, Mattie insists on going on the quest with him. Cogburn proceeds to not allow this due to the fact that he always works alone. Once Cogburn takes off to find the man, he meets LaBeouf, a texas ranger who is also searching for the same man but for a different crime that happened in Texas. Mattie’s is determined to meet up with the men and join them on the quest and eventually does which make the group a trio. For spoilers sake, you must watch the movie to find out if they find him or not. To analyze, we must look at
PTSD is formed by experiencing a multitude of traumatic events, and for Stark the last straw is the Battle for New York City. Stark, and the Avengers face off against thousands of chitauri pouring through a wormhole in the sky. To contain this event, the directors of SHIELD decide to drop a nuclear bomb on New York City. As the missile is fired, the Avengers figure out how to close the portal. Stark realizes that if the wormhole is closed, the chitauri will find a way to come back.

Though the Iron Giant

Wade Wilson (Deadpool) is the main character portrayed by actor Ryan Reynolds. He is a wiseacre mercenary with the ability to experience accelerated healing. He is also heavily scarred all over his body as a result of being subjected to experimental mutation. He can be described a character that is only fun to be with in short spurts and ocassionally breaks the fourth wall in his monologues during the course of the movie.
People grow both mentally and physically in their lifetimes; however, the unique ways in which people grow and develop create the wonder of diverse human life. Paulo Coelho contradicts this idea in his novel The Alchemist when he states, “And my heart and soul is your heart and soul” (IX). This underlines Coelho’s whole idea all of humanity’s stories are the same. Coelho shares this idea as he attempts to describe what he believes this shared story is through a boy named Santiago. However, while the humanity and Santiago may share the same goals, the way that Santiago achieves them is unrealistic compared to most of society. Santiago begins innocent and unknowledgeable of the world, and goes out on a mission to find his Personal Legend.
The film Big Hero 6, is about Hiro, a 14 year old boy who creates an incredible invention called microbots to achieve his dream of enrolling into the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. The microbots are tiny robots that are linked together through any way, shape, or form, through a neurotransmitter. However, trouble strikes as someone steals them, but Hiro and Tadashi, his deceased brother’s medical assistant robot Baymax save the day along with the other multiracial four heroes who were his Tadashi’s friends at the institute as they capture the villain. Big Hero 6, in particular, made me witness how Disney had began to endeavored taking a technological path, opposed to other films intended for children. I believe that Big Hero 6 stands out from all the other movies intended for kids, as from my analysis the movie made me see that it’s characters were mostly all centered around intellectual human-beings. But Disney still used a well-known cliche as they still put at least one unintelligent character in the movie, mostly due to comedic purposes. However, in Big Hero 6, there were some weaknesses that could’ve made this movie even better. The first weakness, was that the directors could’ve added more insight/backstory on how the Hamada household came to be. I felt like starting off with that to go along with the bot-fighting scene would connect must smoother to the movie. Giving the audience some insight/backstory to Big Hero 6, might specify maybe how their aunt became
