Elementary school, middle school, high school, college―that’s how we’re told our education careers should go. After college you go on and get a job based on the degree you received. Seems simple right? According to Erik Lowe in his Seattle Times article “Keep Washington’s College Tuition Affordable,” he informs that people in his generation are the first to be less educated than their parents, in the United States. He explains that this is due to the high cost of tuition followed by a huge amount of student loan debt. Many people believe that a college education is a worthy investment. The ability to become a college graduate will result in making more money. There are more jobs in today’s society that require college degrees. College graduates develop more and better employment opportunities within earning a degree. Self-discipline is a major element in becoming a successful graduate. Also, college graduates are healthier and live longer. Adults-young and old, male and female-who have a bachelor’s degree or higher have twice the annual median income than someone with only a high school degree ("Do college graduates," 2014).

Supporters of getting a college degree often point to the statistics that college graduates earn more than their high school educated peers over a lifetime. Statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau reports that since 1977, “Adults with bachelor's degrees in the late 1970s earned 55 percent more than adults who had not advanced beyond high school. That gap grew to 75 percent by 1990 -- and is now at 85 percent.” A gap of an 85% pay difference is a huge figure and a clear reason why college is a great option for some people. But there are problems with that figure because when the number of college graduates who are either unemployed or underemployed is taken into account it changes the value of the statistic. He tells of how the number of new college graduates far exceeds job growth in technical, managerial, and professional jobs where graduates traditionally have searched for employment. We are told to “go to college” by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it’s important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It’s also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren’t many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they’re doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career.

A college degree is a valuable asset that could ultimately lead to a productive life in society due to the received education, but people without a college degree do turn out more than adequate in regards to societal success. As adolescents begin their senior year, the topic of college often runs without hindrance, often causing extreme stress. Many high school students sometimes wonder if continuing their education after high school is truly worth it. Obtaining a four-year degree is a very expensive and time-consuming task. After graduating from college and getting a Bachelor’s degree, the goal is to find a job that fits their chosen profession and earn more money than if they would have not gone to secondary school. The worry of many students is that they will not be able to achieve this goal in finding a job with their degree or that the pay will not be worth it as they are paying off loans after graduation. People have different opinions on the matter and some do not even consider that college is not worth the money. The real question of concern is whether colleges are assisting students towards their goal and if the time and money spent on the degree is worth it to the student and family.

About two thirds of student are graduating from Colleges and Universities with some level of debt. The level of debt they have sometimes overwhelmed them and sometimes they have no choice but to just drop out. At one point college is not worth it. It may only be worth it when you have a plan and you are financially stable and can afford the tuition every year. The majority of students that attend college are low income students and are not financially stable.

There I was in my car thinking about my family's past. I remember how my parents couldn't go to school. How I wanted things to change by doing something which my parents didn’t do which was to go to college. Most people can’t determine if college is actually valuable or useless. Colleges are known for being really expensive and many students will need to get tuition. But on the other side college opens chances for students to learn skills to help them in their jobs. College is worth it for some people because it opens up the chance to get more experiences and benefits in their future lives, but for others it may not be worth it since they cannot afford it and may be in debt.

The majority of students who are graduating with college degrees are finding themselves tens of thousands of dollars in debt with student loans. In addition, many are also finding it very difficult to get a well-paying job. Based on today’s environment is a college degree worth the cost? Based on this quote, it seems easy to determine that a college degree is worth it, but what about the twenty percent who don’t and what about the students that went to college for a short period of time but didn’t graduate. High school graduates should continue on to college and get a college degree because not only are the employment opportunities greater, but in the long run the amount a college graduate is paid is higher than a high school

Overall, college is worth its cost. College graduates make more money, grow intellectually, and are better suited for their jobs and the responsibilities of the adult world. To continue, the cost of college and its debt can be greatly reduced. Some students are financially challenged but there are many scholarships and financial aid programs available to help them go to college. Families worry that college is too expensive, and they cannot pay off the debt later on. But it pays for itself; post-secondary schools help students earn more money and have more job opportunities because of their degree. Even college graduates agree to this statement. A college education is definitely worth it.

In my opinion I think that college is pretty much worth the money because college helps you on make that money you used on it back.College also helps on getting better jobs you can enjoy so that you can make money doing something you love.

It is often said that people who go to college are more likely to succeed than the people who don’t go to college. The ones who further their education after high school are usually the ones expected to go far in life and get better prepared in the real world. College is not for everyone and the ones who do go end up dropping out and not graduating. I do not believe it is beneficial to go to college. If you go to college, it is not guaranteed you a get a job right after, you stay in debt for maybe the rest of your life, and it is time consuming. If college is not right for you, don't spend all the time and money because at the end it will not be worth it.
