What do you think of the relation between the law and morality regarding abortion? Do you think that if abortion is immoral, it thus ought to be illegal, or if morally permissible then it ought to be for this reason legally permissible? Explain. Abortion is a topic that is very hard to discuss because of the issues that it touches when debating on whether or not is should be practiced or not in society, especially in America. In America, the freedom and liberties that a person has allows them to say, feel, believe, or do anything in their choosing as long as it does not cause harm or violates another person’s rights. For example, in recent Supreme Court case, a pastry baker refused to provide their services to homosexual couple because they claimed that their religious beliefs considered homosexuality to be a sin, therefore providing them with a wedding cake would be a sin for supporting homosexuality. This was ruled a violation of the couples right as the bakers was refusing them service by discriminating against the homosexual community (ACLU-co.org). Essentially the same thing happens with women and abortion, those against weight heavy on the idea that it is a sin to take the life of another person or of an unborn child. These is true in a moral or philosophical terms but in reality denying a women with the choice of whether or not they want to give birth to a child is a violation of her rights by way Roe v. Wade. In an ethical sense this battle between cultural beliefs and individual beliefs refer to cultural moral relativism and individual moral relativism (O’Sullivan & Pecorino, Chapter Three: Relativism). In conclusion, from a legal and rights discussion it is illegal and wrong to deny a women with the right to decide whether or not the birth of her child should or should not happen. In a moral or ethical sense the taking of another human being life is wrong a should not happen. But ultimately moral and ethical criticism is far less significant to the struggle and pain that a woman faces
