Many people who do not consider themselves heroes, but others may think them much more than that. People who just smile and say hi and change a life forever. Hero are not born. They're made - sculpted by the choices they make and the people in their lives. A hero is not some abstract being, some superhuman, with inhuman power, or a perfectly selfless and good person. They don’t have to be any of those things. A hero is someone who sets out to make someone else’s life better, their purpose is to affect someone in a positive manner. After WWII there were many individuals whose acts of heroism were recognized. One of these heroes was Giorgio Perlasca. He saved the lives of many Jews by lying and stealing. For this, some may not consider him a hero, but this is not the case. Giorgio Perlasca was a hero because, even though he used questionable methods to help others, he still made a difference and helped them through an awful time.

He put their lives before his in everything. His bravery helped him stand up to “an SS officer over two young Jewish children whom Perlasca insisted on taking away in the Spanish diplomatic car. ‘A young SS major pulled out his pistol, pointing it at me’” (Hallenstein 13). This shows Perlasca didn't care for his life as much as he cared about others. He loved everyone, “On April 5, 1945, Dr. Hugo Dukesz, one of the Jews saved by Giorgio Perlasca, wrote,’On this occasion we want to express the affection and gratitude of the several thousand Jews who survived, thanks to your protection. There are not enough words to praise the tenderness with which you fed us and with which you cared for the old and the sick among us. You encouraged us when we were close to despair…” (The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous 4). He worked hard everyday to make their lives better and happier.
