Is homeschooling a viable alternative to traditional classroom-based education?
According to the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI),
“Homeschooling … is an age-old traditional education practice that a decade ago
appeared to be cutting-edge and ‘alternative’ but is now bordering on ‘mainstream’…”
(Ray). There are about two million home educated students in the United States, an
increase of two to eight percent over the past few years (Ray). Yet with this steady rise,
there are many families who disregard homeschooling as a schooling alternative simply
because they are oblivious to the fundamentals of it. If parents were knowledgeable of the
benefits associated with homeschooling, most would embrace it rather than question the
social aspect and academic credibility of a homeschooled student.
Socialization is a continuing process whereby an individual acquires a personal identity and learns the values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to his
or her social position. The development of social skills is a frequent question
directed towards parents of homeschoolers. Contrary to the belief that homeschoolers
are incompetent to socialize, a study conducted by Thomas Smedley, M.S. proves
otherwise. Thomas C. Smedley is a graduate of Redford University with a Masters degree
in Corporate and Professional communications. In his master’s thesis titled “The

Having homeschoolers playing in public schools is a great idea. In the state of Virginia, we want the best for our children. Homeschoolers should not have to go to the public school in their zone to play sports. They should have the right to try out a sport in public school. Allowing homeschoolers to play sports in public schools give them the choice to interact with their teammates. Studies show that activities such as sports help children to manage their time more. I also had to think about the children that goes to the public school. It seems unfair to let homeschoolers to be on the team when they don’t even go to the school. This is why I will make requirements for the homeschoolers if they want to tryout for the a sport in the public school
because they didn’t understand how all the extra time in school and homework helps them work
Do you think home schooling is better than normal education? Home schooling is type of education that parents is a way to teach as teachers to their children instead going to normal school. Some parents choose home schooling rather than normal schools for many reasons like they are afraid of the low quality of the schools nowadays and that's definitely wrong because they think that schools is just for studying. Schools not only for learning but also do encourage in the student that sense of creativity, doing activities and play sports. On the other hand, home schooling was the most popular way of education in past ago so there is still parents think that to teach their children the experience they get from life this is called education like
(Reiland, 59) Unfortunately this still is quite a high rate of increase compared to the inflation rate throughout the economy.
Many people are questioning if home schooling is a better option for students than regular students who receive their education by a regular teacher with credentials. This issue has raised controversy throughout the United States for some time now, as more and more students are being home schooled, “increasing by seven percent yearly,” stated by Christopher J. Klicka in the internet article by (Klicka Homeschooled Students Excel in College). Students can a have a second choice of what kind of schooling they want; home-schooled students can have the opportunity to fulfill their passion and dreams without out the day-to-day schedule of traditional schooling. Is an A really equal to an A from teachers from public schools?
Many public schools risk the safety of students. The Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics show that in “2012, there were about 749,200 violent assaults on students.” In the 2011-2012 academic year, there was a record of “209,800 public school teachers who reported being physically attacked by a student.” World wide, an average of 1,175 teachers and staff were physically attacked each day of that school year. Every year, about “10 percent of primary- and secondary-school teachers are threatened with bodily harm.” With these positive statistics, I would not know why a parent would second guess their choice of enrolling their children in public school.

The American Educational System is not what it used to be. Many people fear the falling standards of the United States’ public school system. What with the harsh social environment, the controversial curriculum, the overpaid, corrupt teachers with their own agenda, and the exposure to horrifying new ideas and ways of thinking; Or at least this is what the paranoid parents of the United States have led themselves to believe. Anything looks bad when you look at it in such harsh light. Granted, there are a few (or several ) flaws in the Public Educational System but rather than make an attempt to help fix these problems, parents take it upon themselves to educate their own children and “fix” them. This alternative form of education known as
Homeschool is for losers, so they say. It’s for those who are weird and socially awkward around others. Or those who get pregnant in sophomore year and can’t handle highschool. People, such as parents, believe that you go to high school to learn, pay attention in class, and get good grades. Not everyone knows what actually goes on behind those doors. From my experience, high school was full of drama and distraction. Most of the time I went there to hang out with my friends and just have fun. Typically people would think of homeschool as low class or for the troubled ones. If a student has homeschool, they must have some sort of problem. Even when you'd tell someone you're in homeschool, they would look at you oddly as if the words ‘I’m dumb’
Parents choose to homeschool their children for many years for many different reasons. To name a few reasons, the location (rural or suburbs), income, the belief that they can teach better, or the parent’s religious belief. Is homeschooling a better option than sending a child to a public or private school? Homeschooling is not all that bad or a traditional school is more superior, it comes down to the parent’s preference of what they think is best for themselves and their child. There is a misconception that homeschooling will not allow students to be successful due to students are not well enforced by the parents to do their work. Even in a traditional school, students may be
Parental involvement has been defined in many different ways among the researchers. Generally, it is the time parents spend participating in activities as such as volunteering at the schools, knowing the teachers, going to PTA meetings, and helping with school-related activities at the home. ( Hill & Taylor 2004) One researcher focused on the amount of time spent volunteering and being involved at school. (Griffith 1996) and other researchers expanded the definition to include homework help and outside academic events. (Barwegen, et al)
Parents choose homeschooling over public or private school for a number of reasons. What are those reasons? First, homeschooling poses a customized learning system that grants students with the chance to learn and develop at their own pace. Next, families that homeschool their children have a stronger bond with each other, building a safe and caring learning environment for students. Lastly, research has shown that homeschooled students are above average in terms of social levels. Public schooling may be beneficial to some students, but until the system is further improved for convenience and profit to all, homeschooling is a more effective method of education.
Homeschooling is state materials taught at home just as it would be taught in school. People have a warped vision of homeschooling. They tend to believe children do not learn what the public or private schools teach. Homeschool students have to be taught the five major subjects taught include, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, English and Language Arts (http://www.ghea.org/pages/resources/stateLaw.php). The students have to take national accredited tests every three years after they begin third grade (http://www.ghea.org/pages/resources/stateLaw.php). They would be taking a test in third grade, sixth grade, ninth grade and 12th grade
