Is it ever good to break traditional gender roles? My answer to this question would be yes it is perfectly fine to break gender roles because society is slowly changing. Another reason why it is good to break traditional gender roles is because fate and destiny could be different from what the traditional gender roles are and it can turn out fine or better in the long run.. One reason it is good to break traditional gender roles is because society is slowly changing. I believe society is changing over the years gender roles have been men going to work while women stay home cooking and cleaning. Men are the head of the household and women are the housekeepers. As the years progress now some women make more money than men. On www.forbes.com
1. Why did Cato object to repealing the Oppian law? What was the basis of his objections?
There are benefits to traditional gender roles, but there are also drawbacks. The drawbacks for males are: Personal Self-Worth Being Tied to Job Position and Income and Less Time for Family Life. Last year my boyfriend was forced to quit his previous job because his hours interfered with his school schedule. Before he found his new job in the career field of his major, he was very depressed because I had to pay all of our monthly bills by myself. Even though it was only for a month, he felt “less of a man”. When I was in middle school, for six months my dad had to work every weekend overnight in addition to his 8am - 4:30pm work schedule. Because of his excessive working, we did not spend much time together as a family during this time. Another example is I work at Payless and at my store it is made up of only women. Some men will come in and ask for applications, but when they ask me the question of, “Do any men work here?” and I tell them no, they immediately decide to not apply. This is because they do not feel the job is masculine enough because women work there. Another example is if you were to survey students based on majors in college, you would see
Throughout history, gender roles have been the foundation that determines the course of a civilization. These gender roles have undergone a change over time. It is important for every society to re-evaluate its preconceived ideas of gender and determine if that is still the norm for their society. When people think of gender roles we typically have set stereotypes in our head of what that means. Much of the time, what we believe, is not what is actually true. It is often argued what is right and what is wrong.
Gender roles are considered to be good by a large number of people. The reason for this is that most people think that everyone should act like their gender, and that gender roles make it easier to set their actions straight.
Gender roles are sets of societal norms dictating what types of behaviors are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable based on their sex. The concept of gender roles are quite simple, yet can be very biased towards both genders. Men and Women are equal enough to where a woman and a man can do whatever their mind wants to accomplish. Believing that you can do anything you want will always help you to succeed in life. I do not believe in there being such things as "male jobs" or even "female jobs." Having gender roles is very comical. At the end of the day, as long as the job is completed, who cares what gender it took to get it done. How effectively do you feel, that the US could be ran, if gender roles were never an aspect
Gender roles are the roles that men and women are expected to occupy based on their sex. Traditionally, many Western societies have believed that women are more nurturing then men . . . . One way that a woman might engage in the traditional feminine gender role would be to nurture her family by working full-time within the home rather than taking employment outside of the home. (Blackstone)
Gender defined roles are continuously adapting to the new societal norms of the era. There is a surplus of historical events that have reimagined the traditional expectations of a man or women.
In a society, gender roles are the roles that are restricted to males or females on the basis of their sexism. Conventionally, in numerous societies including the western society, it is supposed that females are more encouraged at any platform than the males. It is believed that for the development of a society, females should be treated in an encouraged way because encouragement of the females help in the betterment of society. Earlier, it was considered that females should remain at home and they should maintain the household things rather than working outside because outside work is only for the males, but it was a traditional way of treating women, which has been changed now.

Gender roles have constrained so many people, and have also freed many people as well. As a college student the biggest gender role that has constrained males is that they are unable to get free drinks at bars and have to pay for their girlfriends. I have noticed that at many bars that females are allowed to get in for free, and do have to buy a ticket unlike the males. Furthermore, usually when guys take girls on the date they have to pay for the girl as well. I understand that you have to pay for the female because you asked her and all that, but sometimes your date spends way too much money, and it makes you broke. Gender roles have freed people as well. An example where gender roles have freed people is for instance in the males condition,
In this session, I will discuss the gender roles in my family. The definition of gender role is the degree to which a person adopts the gender-specific behaviors ascribed by his or her culture (Matsumoto, D. R., & Juang 2013, 156). For example, traditional gender roles recommend that males are aggressive, angry, and unemotional. It goes further and explains that the male should leave the home every day to make a living and be the main wage earner. The traditional gender role for the female purpose is to stay at home and care for the children. It explains that the female is to be nurturing, caring, and emotional (Matsumoto, D. R., & Juang 2013, 156). These traditional roles for female and male are the opposite of one another. It is believed that the culture is likely to influence our perception about gender role in a family. In my family, my parents utilize the traditional gender role. Growing up, my father went to work every day and my mother stayed home with me and my sister. I believe my parents were influence by their parents and their culture to be traditional gender role parents. My father explained to me that they chose traditional parenting role because both sides of the family utilized traditional parenting gender roles. I believe my parents felt pressure to obtain the gender roles of the mother staying home with the children while the father worked. However, when my younger sister was old enough to go to school, my mother started to work. It was believed that when
Ever since the dawn of time, women and men have been associated with specific gender roles that can be seen controversial in the eyes of many. Traits and roles associated with a specific gender can be either innate or learned over time. Looking into the deeper concept of gender roles and stereotypes, it is clear that these fixed gender roles are not naturally born with, but rather taught, learned, or influenced by external forces.
I think gender roles are changing and will continue to change in the future. I do not think gender roles will go away but I do think they will be modified. Gender stereotypes will always be around because of females and males physical appearances, athletics, academics, moral-ethical, and self- satisfactions. The social role theory makes the differences seem larger because they have been exaggerated through our culture. If people follow the “roles” females and males are supposed to play then I believe they will not be gone in the future. I believe that men will always look down on women and think they cannot do something and that will motivate women to work harder to achieve that goal and surprise the men. I do not know why men or
A good example of Gender Role is Mulan when she had to disguise herself before joining the Chinese Army because a female in the army would have been a total disgrace, they would have lost face. She went to take her father’s place, because he had been injured in the previous war and had permanent damage to his leg, but the misconceptions about females going to war would not allow her to go as herself (Souci, 1998). A persons limitations as to what they can do should be based on the individual not a person’s gender. In this movie, Mulan proved just that. Men and women are reversing roles more and more. Fewer women are staying at home and more men are choosing to stay with the children or just at home.
Gender and the ways gender is portrayed in society varies from culture to culture. Gender roles have changed drastically, especially during the 20th century and continue to evolve to this day. For years now there have been preconceived notions about genders and the roles each one should play in society, home, workplace, etc. Most times gender roles are associated with stereotypes and previous gender roles. Gender role plays different parts in religion, culture, society, time periods, countries, etc. Women rights and power varies in time and location and it is very interesting to look at the events, cultures, and customs that were taking place in that particular time period to get a better idea of the gender role concept.
