Is Samuel De Champlain A Hero?

A hero is commonly described as strong, wears a cape and always ready to save people, but in reality, a hero is someone who is persistent, compassionate, and always has the best intentions for his people - the definition of who Samuel de Champlain is. The adventurer, geographer, and author did many good deeds and helped the French in many ways, becoming a hero, including caring for other’s health, showing loyalty for his comrades and alliances, and demonstrated his determination and effort throughout his excursion. With his strong leadership, heart of gold, and determined mindset, this made Samuel de Champlain a hero.

First, Samuel de Champlain showed his strength and cunningness in his expedition through New France, becoming a leader. In Champlain’s journey to Port-Royal, it consisted in many deaths from scurvy and cold, but on the other hand, he persevered and created the Order of Good Cheer to keep his comrades and settlers’ spirits up despite the factors against the crew, which showed his nobility and selflessness, the attributes of a leader. As evidence, he met a few Aboriginal groups, including the Montagnais, the Algonquin, and the Wendat, (as known Huron). He met the two tribes and befriended them, being able to trade with them, as his kindness made him trustworthy, and made peace with the native tribes, which also demonstrates his compassion towards the natives. Although this caused conflict with the Iroquois, as they dispersed the Montagnais and Algonquin, which in turn created hate for Samuel de Champlain, his loyalty and friendship had shown to the native tribes when he fought against the Iroquois in the war; in return putting his trust and faith towards the Algonquins and Montagnais. Without a doubt, this confirms that Samuel de Champlain had a heart of gold and trustworthy
