Jackson is known as a legend because of the accomplishments that he made throughout his life. To start off his solo career, he received his first grammy for the best R&B Vocal Performance in 1980. Jackson and his brothers were elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and in 2001, Jackson was elected into this as a solo performer (Achievements). In 1993, he was presented with the “Living Legend Award” at the Grammy Awards Ceremony and with the Humanitarian of the Year trophy at the Soul Train awards (Biography). In 1980, he was among the artists with the most grammy awards won; he had eleven as of then. In 1984, he became the first celebrity to have two stars in the same category on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He earned a star as a solo artist, and in the Jackson Five. He was one of the fifteen total individuals whom were awarded the Grammy Legend Award; he became the tenth individual to earn this award in 1993. On May 21st, 2014, he became the first artist in history to score a top ten on the Billboard Top One-hundred in five different decades when “Love Never Felt So Good” reached number nine. During the week following his death, he became the first solo artist to sell more than 2.6 million tracks and one million tracks in one week. He was the first artist to have the three bestselling albums in the United States. Two weeks following his death, he was the first artist to have six of the ten bestselling albums (Grammys). In 2008, he announced that he was going to perform a series of concerts as his “final curtain call.” All tickets for his “This is It” World tour were sold out in under four hours. However, he was not able to experience his comeback tour. On June 25th, 2009, he suffered cardiac arrest and passed away; he was only fifty years old. After an autopsy was performed, it was determined that he died from acute propofol intoxication. The overdose was triggered by a lethal prescription drug aided by his doctor, Conrad Murray. A police investigation revealed that Dr. Murray was not licensed to prescribe controlled drugs, and the standard care for administrating propofol had not been met. The recommended equipment for patient monitoring, precision dosing, and resuscitation had not been met either. Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide, and his doctor was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on November 7th, 2001, and he would spend up to a maximum of four years in jail. His mother, Katherine Jackson, received full custody of his children and kept them secluded to make sure they had privacy to follow Jackson’s wishes. Family and friends wanted Jackson to be buried in his Neverland Ranch, but he was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (A&E).
