The first episode was over all mainly about the upcoming of America and its industrialization.

One of the main themes in Scott Westerfield’s text Uglies is the conflict teenagers have with where they stand in society and learning to respect and value themselves. Using examples from the text compare them with today’s world for teenagers.

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He attended school for approximately eight years. Washington lived with his mother until the age of 16. At the age of 15, Washington took a job as an assistant land surveyor. In 1748, he began working in the Shanandoah Valley to help survey the land holdings of Lord Fairfax. By 1749, he established a good reputation as a land surveyor and was appointed Culpeper counties official land surveyor.

In the movie ““A Walk to Remember”,”, starring Shane West and Mandy Moore, the opening scene is located in a North Carolina small town where the well-liked and rebellious juvenile Landon Carter is approached with the possibility of being put out of his school because he and his friends have left proof of drinking which is illegal on the varsity grounds, which have gone on to seriously injure another student as the prank went wrong. The principal of school provides Landon with the option or selection of being removed for school for his actions by helping fellow students and taking part in part of the formal school play. As he is participating in these functions, Landon meets another student Jamie Sullivan, a lady he has been keen on since preschool and as she additionally is native minister's girl. Since he is one most popular people in the school, he has hardly noticed Jamie, who mainly wears the usual dresses and has only a couple sweaters. Jamie is mainly considered as weird nobody is social connected with. She never wears make-up nor does she like to draw people to herself.

Then Sal meets Dean; a wild, roguish character, and is so enchanted by him that he believes he can shape his own identity through being ‘like’ Dean. Hence, Sal takes to the road, planning to follow in Dean’s footsteps.

Dean Edwards Smith (born on February 28, 1931) is a retired American head coach of men's college basketball. He is originally from Emporia, Kansas, Smith as been called a "coaching legend" by the Basketball Hall of Fame. Smith is best known for his successful 36-year coaching career at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Smith coached from 1961 to 1997 and retired as the NCAA Division I men's basketball record-holderfor victories (879), a record which was surpassed by Bobby Knightin 2007. Smith has the 9th highest winning percentage of any men's college basketball coach(77.6%). During his career as head coach of North Carolina, the team won two nationsl titles and appeared in 11 Final Fours.

“In our media-intensive culture it is not difficult to find differing opinions… The difficulty lies in deciding which opinion to agree with and which ‘experts’ seem the most credible” (Espejo 11). The perceptions of one age group in society of another age group are built upon assumptions that are made through what is visible. However, rarely is anyone willing to understand the reason behind someone’s actions. Sibling rivalry, the death of a loved one, moving to a new school, competition among peers, and the reputation adolescents have today often end up giving a misperception of society to teens and of teens to society, thus damaging the relationships between society, as illustrated by J.D. Salinger in The Catcher in the Rye.

The reason Brother Dean is going on campus and preaching is so that he can get people to convert. As  Nissi Powell, a student on campus said,  he is only trying to get people’s attention with his remarks.   He is doing it in a wrong way because a lot of people do not respond well when they are being attacked with words. He could have tried a more effective way to get people to listen to him if he talked about the religion itself. He could have mentioned what a day in mass was like or passages from the bible that were positive. Due to his strident approach, he has caused chaos and violence towards him. People have started to rip his shirt, throw away his signs, and has had a smoothie thrown at him. His hobby has had a lot a controversy but some women do agree with him like his friend Sarah. She claims that women put themselves in situations without needing to be there. She also states that she agrees with everything brother Dean
