When I was in middle school I was exposed to Japanese cinematography. When I first came to realize that a place like Japan existed it opened many doors for me. I was surprised by how much I came to love the country that I had never gotten the chance to experience for myself, but still managed to form a connection with the country. After discovering Japan there were many things I managed to become interested in. For instance I’ve become fond of learning the language. The Japanese language system is really a fascinating one. It’s complex, but beautiful and simplistic in a way and it makes me enjoy learning it.In addition, learning about the Japanese culture is something I try to immerse myself in often. It’s something that can I can put my attention
Throughout today’s society, media contributes to almost everyone’s daily life. From informative news channels to comical television shows, media proves to be effective in advertisement, releasing messages and informing the audience. Although media proves to be wildly effective in advertising, releasing messages and informing the audience, periodically destructive and misleading messages are provided to the audience and directly influencing women. Cultural critics widely agree that media tends to negatively influence women and all the critics point to research which supports the belief that women are portrayed as subordinate to men, having no
Japan is home to millions of individuals. All of them with different beliefs, religions, and traditions. Japan has a long and influential visual arts history. More specifically, the Japanese film industry has had a large influence on the cinematic world stage. Due to Japans tragic and destructive history, several different categories of society were affected. Their economic industry and visual arts industry are just some examples. Japans history has had consequences on both its social and political sectors. These reactions/repercussions can be seen in Japans film industry. In my paper, I will be looking at the political and social issues involved in the movies Spirited Away and Roshamon. The repercussions of World War 2 are important in understanding both of these Japanese films. The women portrayed in these films are both respected and docile. Moreover, the genres of these films have had a lasting effect on society.

Chris McCandless is a humble person, he went into the wilderness to test himself the feeling of his own belief about taking a break from socially, to journey without the help of friends that to offer him help to make his journey easier. It has recently been brought to my attention that our school is looking to adopt a sustainable menu into our meal program and I would like to give my viewpoint on the matter. As one many students here at Oxford Academy this change will affect me directly. Although people may at first oppose this conversion I think if we are able to overcome the first obstacles, this change would bring a great positive impact to the environment and the health of our students.
From a young age, I've had the dream of moving to and immersing myself in the culture of a foreign country. Being able to live and teach in Japan would allow me to fulfill this dream while also being in alignment with the goals of the JET Program. I have the long-term career goal of becoming a literary and media translator of Japanese, and think the program offers a unique opportunity to not only meet and communicate with native Japanese speakers, but also to have a firsthand experience with the culture of Japan. I believe being able to exchange ideas and languages with people from a different background will be both personally and professionally enriching, as well as facilitate goodwill and a sharing of cultures between countries.
he short anecdote above accurately represents the situation of many students across the globe. Throughout the last decade, technology had exploded in a way so immensely that nothing and nobody can stop it. Not even educators. This is why taking the easy way out of assignments has become such a frequently used method by students everywhere. It is evident that students of this generation have become complacent in a “short-cut” society.
Kansas, as well as the other new territories, was extremely valuable to both the North and South, increasing the tension between the two sides. The settlement of Kansas would throw off the unsteady balance in place between the slave and non-slave states. Regarding this balance, Guelzo describes, “Proslavery southerners wanted Kansas, because Kansas sat on the western border of Missouri; a free state would hem in slave state Missouri...eventually so weaken the pro-slavery influence in Missouri that Missourians might abandon slavery, turn Missouri into a free state, and cost the slave South several vital seats in Congress” (1084).The South was faced with a struggle against the North for territorial power. If Kansas became a free state, it would
At the beginning of the 20th century, American Progressive methods began changing to fit a new era of economic and social policy. The early 1900s were a time of increasing social awareness and focus on responsible legislation. Some of the economic changes that caused this new Progressive awareness and focus were desire for growth, new moral ideologies, and an orientation around workers' rights.
In Amy Chua’s essay, “The Right Road to America” she argues the point that immigration is a great value of this country and that America was built from immigrants. One thing differs from Chua’s essay than from others because she not only gives highly credible facts on how immigrants have helped our country, but she also provides ways to improve the issues of immigration into America. Amy Chua is a highly credible professor at Yale and states throughout her essay that immigrants who possess American values deserve to be here in America and those who don’t should leave. America had always been a country that accepted immigration and allowed all
Studying abroad will provide me the unique experience of learning a language from the perspective of one of the many cultures that employs it. Nuances that are difficult to convey in a classroom will, hopefully, come to my attention naturally. We see similar methods of immersion learning everywhere. For example, if one wants to develop a rudimentary level of understanding of the culture surrounding a type of music, they can start by looking up the music and listening to
I was, of course, too young to understand the attributes of a good photography at age fourteen, but I would still flip out my phone at all times of the day and snap pictures of anything that seemed interesting. As time went on, I started to understand what made a good photo and what didn’t. I learned to shoot people in the shade on sunny days to avoid strong shadowing, to leave “breathing room” for objects not facing directly towards the camera, to use grid lines in order to balance a photo, and so on. Photography became the first passion I had for learning more outside of school, and I longed to learned as much as I could. I soon became even more excited about travelling because I knew there would be brand new landscapes and cities to capture. I came to see that there was a specific patience to taking pictures in new places. I would always be twelve steps behind my family as I would continually pause to raise up my camera and quickly set up for a seemingly good
My kitchen table served as my laboratory in the tenth grade. When chemistry is taught through an online course, it’s basically required to use informal laboratories. The kitchen stove served as a burner, measuring cups as cylinders, and plastic bowls as beakers. My experience learning chemistry online leaned more on the visual side. While solving organic compound problems began with me staring at a screen, the “aha” moment was cherished through endless videos, calls to my teacher, and corrections for incorrect problems.
From taking the course in Japan and living with a host family, I had learned a new language that can benefit me to open more career opportunities. If I didn’t go to Japan I might never learn Japanese. I will add in my personal challenge I had faced when I am making the decision to apply for study abroad and the challenge I encounter after I got accepted. As well as some of the challenge I face while living in Japan. The idea of stepping out of comfort zone was not easy, especially spending life in a different country that shares different culture and language. I want to join the Year in Japan program coordinator together to promote the Country of Japan, and encourage the student to step out of their comfort zone and try to consider a country to study abroad where English is not the primary
There are some images associated with Korean food, but the most well- known Korean food is absolutely Kim-chi. Kim-chi is a traditional fermented Korean food. According to the Health Magazine, Kim-chi is one of the top 5 healthiest foods in the world. It has full of Vitamins A, B and C. But since it is a fermented food, its biggest benefit is their healthy bacteria which are called lactobacilli.(health.com) So, Kim-chi by itself is just a pack of lots of good stuff and we can see our ancestor’s wisdom of keeping their body healthy from food. From the early stage that Korea has been settled down, Kim-chi has been served on Koreans’
Language is universal. People voice their ideas, emotions, and thoughts across to the world through language. Multitudes of people across the country speak a varierty of languages. However, a foreigner is reduced to their native language, and sometimes has difficulties mainstreaming English into their dialect. A native language is a foreigner's blueprint for the world to hear. Native language gives homage to a foreigner's culture and home life. Native tongues open doors for education and job opprutunities. A native tongue is translated in books and plastered on signs across the communites. Imagine if language decreased to just English, and no another language existed. People would mirror each other, and have no idea of diversity. So where
