Jeffrey was a happy child until he reached the age of six. When he was six he had a minor surgery to fix a double hernia, after this surgery his little brother was born. After these two life changing events Dahmer seemed to have changed becoming more insular and lacking confidence. By the age of fourteen he began having thoughts of killing people and necrophilia. Necrophilia is wanting to have sexual intercourse with a corpse. Many believed that his parents divorce acted as a catalyst for Dahmer to begin acting on his thoughts of murder. Dahmer dismembered Hicks’ body, put it in different bags and buried him in the woods behind his parents’ home. After this murder Dahmer delved deeper into his alcoholism. His drinking became such eminent aspect of his life that it caused him to drop out of his first term of college. Since he was no longer attending school, Dahmer’s father made him enlist in the army and he was deployed to Germany in 1978. The tolls of the army did not help his drinking problem and he was discharged because of it. After he returned from the army Dahmer went and dug up the body of his first victim, he tore it apart even more and scattered the body through the woods once again. Although it took him nine years Dahmer did strike again this time he picked his victim from a gay bar, the two went to a hotel room, got drunk and the next morning Steven Tuomi was dead. Dahmer claims that he has no memory of the night and that he simply woke up next to the dead body. Panicking and not knowing what to do he packed the body in a suitcase and brought it to his Grandma’s house, where was his place of residency at the time, and sexually assaulted the body.
