According to Allison James, Children are often discouraged in the United States, from making minimal decisions on their own or showing evidence of autonomy at young ages. She asserts that childhood can denote more than one ideology, depending on where you are. In addition, James also touches on insight offered by historian , Phillipe Aries who interjects that there was no concept of childhood during the mid-evil era. Thus alluding to the cultural and social influences that factor into the structure of how a particular society defines what it means to be a child.
Jo-Na' Williams held a presentation at David Friend’s Recital Hall and was so kind to share her life story as Black American Woman trying to persevere in the music industry. She started of by saying that she got introduced to the music industry as singer/songwriter and from there she started writing and creating music for big artists, and was promised to be compensated for all her hard work, but those promises never became a reality. Jo-Na' felt very exploited and wanted to make sure it would never happened to her again, but most importantly she didn’t want it to happen to anyone else. From there she realized that she wanted to learn more about the laws in the entertainment industry, so that she can know her rights as a creator and so that

Hello I am Samantha Kennelly, I go to St. John XXIII College Preparatory, for high school. Through out my high school career I discovered three important characteristic about myself: humility, creativity, and leadership. I discovered my humility in my acts of kindness towards others, whether it is raising money for a disabled child to have a semester free of therapeutic horse riding or teaching summer school students how to read, write, and do math. Creativity in my love and appreciation for the arts and being in an independent film along with being accepted into distinguished art for my last year of high school. Lastly, leadership because I took initiative and I went to my school administration and requested a math teacher when we had not
When asked why I decided to make this mistake I always responded I don’t know, or I’m not sure but as I informed myself in why drinking as a minor is life-threatening I learned a lot about not only myself but as to how I affect other people by my actions.

For the final part of our interview, Jeannine and I talked about death, which can sometimes be difficult for people of any age to discuss. Yet, she certainly has her end of life decisions planned out already and is not too fearful of what is to come. She said, “I have been around a wonderful 83 years thus far and I am very satisfied overall with how I have lived,” and I was under the impression that she has accomplished nearly all that she intended to do during her time on Earth. However, Jeannine has every intention to live to be over 100 years old and hopes to be able to have at least 5 great-grandchildren before she passes.
It was interesting to listen to Jordan’s client talk about the issues he’s having with his colleagues. The client mentioned the strain on his relationship with his colleagues now that he’s in a role where he is responsible for holding them accountable (1:10). Shortly after, he makes a statement about how the most enjoyable thing about teaching was the relationships he had with his colleagues (2:20). Another point that stood out was later on when the client mentions not wanting to be superior, but that he has a responsibility to his job to hold other’s accountable (5:22). What I took away from these statements was that the client, like Jordan, had stated, valued his relationships, as well as valued being respected and a strong work ethic. The overall issue the client is facing is the conflict in his relationships now that he has taken on a different position. His frustration stems from wanting his co-workers to understand and respect the responsibilities that he has in his new role and the feelings he now has due to his relationships that have unraveled.
In Samuel Shem’s House of God we see an earnest character named Jo who is a diligent hard working chief resident who is the only female in a high ranking position. She is a determined to be the best in the House of God at ensuring quality patient care, in doing so she gives up a part of her humanity coming off as an apathetic, earnest, doctor who at a glance appears to be obsessed with medicine. Jo solely wants success and will ensure she achieves success whether it means sacrificing a part of her life. This is significant because Jo has an insatiable desire for success lacking an all around successful life arguably because of her dysfunctional family life.
