The book that I chose to read was “And We Stay” by Jenny Hubbard. It is a fiction book, the theme of the book is trying to get over a bad situation that occurred in your life. Emily Beam has to overcome a tragic situation that happened in her life, her boyfriend Paul comes into school one day with a stolen gun threatens people then overall commits suicide. After that event her parents decide that it is best to send Emily away to a boarding school in Amherst, Massachusetts. Once Emily gets there she automatically feels a connection towards the poet Emily Dickinson, who once attended that school. At the school Emily has flashbacks of her past and she also starts writing more poetry, and reading more of Dickinson's poetry. All of the girls
The novel I read the first semester was Shift by Jennifer Bradbury. It was the story of a young male adult trying to uncover the truth about his best friend’s disappearance. By the end of the book, the main characters grew as individuals because they have discovered more about themselves and each other. The novel is mainly set in present day, Hurricane, West Virginia and then the story takes you through their bike trip to Seattle. Bradbury may have chosen this setting because of the theme of, friendships ending that she was exploring.
The best book I have ever read is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I enjoyed reading this book because I could really relate to the main character of the book. In the book the character Ponyboy had two older brothers and had lost both of his parents in a car accident. Now I have two older brothers and a younger sister and I didnt lose both of my parents in a accident of some sort but I did lose my father do to health issues. The book is about a teenage boy and a gang of his friends called the Greasers and they have to settle there differeneces with another gang of friends called the Socs. The main character (Ponyboy) has to find who he really is before and after he losses his two friends Johnny and Dallas.
The book I choose for my summer reading was, Blink Once by Cylin Busby. I choose this book because I read the first page and it kept my attention and I knew I needed to read the rest of the book. I did and it turned out to be a wonderful book with a nice twist.
In the end, with her death, which is where the story begins, Miss Emily is the talk of the town. Not because people truly mourn her, but because people are curious about the life she had lived in secret, in her big house, for all those years. People pitied her, it was as had been left alone in the world and seemed to have wished it that way.
The cover of this book caught my eye and I wondered what it was. When I saw it I thought to myself and I said I would give this book a chance. I flipped the book over and I started reading a paragraph about the book. It had a lot of details and it was describing the characters very well. A good book for me is one with a
For my outside reading book, I chose Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons. It is a novel centered around the life of eleven year old Ellen Foster. Early in the book, Ellen’s mother commits suicide, leaving Ellen alone with her father. After this, Ellen endures different kinds of abuse from her alcoholic father including physical, psychological, and sexual, and is forced to fill the role her mother has left behind. She has to pay bills, shop for groceries, and take care of herself. Ellen then takes matters into her own hands and seeks refuge from her friend Starletta, a person of color. After a day at school, Ellen's teacher notices a bruise on her arm and she is sent to live with the art teacher, Julia, and her husband, Roy. Despite Ellen living a happy life with Julia and Roy, Ellen must leave because Ellen’s grandmother wins custody over her in court. Ellen's grandmother orders her to work in the fields alongside the servants and Ellen becomes friends with a lady named Mavis who teaches her to do the work of the field. While at her grandmother’s, her father dies from a brain aneurism. Later on, Ellen's grandmother becomes ill and Ellen takes care of her. Despite her efforts, her grandmother dies. After this, Ellen
The book I read is called Linger by Maggie Stiefvater. This book is set in Mercy Falls, Minnesota around 2010. Linger is about a young girl named, the protagonist, Grace who fell in love with a boy named Sam, who she can not be with. Isabella, Grace’s friend, knows and goes through the situations along with Grace. Cole is a new, dynamic character in the story. He has problems he wants to get rid of and learns to deal with them. Grace has many different experiences with her parents and other things that most teenagers don’t.
One of my favorite books is emily and einstein Sandy lives a crazy mixed life with his wife Emily. A mysterious man offers him a second chance. He accepts it. Sandy wakes up as a dog. Sandy’s name is changed to Einstein and Emily adopts him. Without knowing what happened to her husband, Emily deals with rent and debt. She gets kicked out of her own apartment and she also finds out that her marriage was a lie. The book was not only exciting because of its content but also how the author writes the book.
The book I chose was called “Fat Angie” this book was about about who was fat and her was Angie so the people at school who would bullied her gave her that nickname. After her sister graduate high school and went to the military and was captured in Iraq and was announced missing on the news. Fat Angie’s sister was the only person she really talked too now that she is missing she is alone and being picked on at school about her weight. So she writes letter to her missing sister till she is founded.
The fiction book that I chose for my summer reading was “Of Mice and Men”. When I was given the list of fiction books, I went on good reads dot com and looked up all the books on the fiction list. “Of Mice and Men” really caught my eye because it was a book about two friends going through tough times, which always has a deeper meaning of friendship. Once I chose “Of Mice and Men” I picked it up at my local library. The book was exceptionally simple to read and my understanding of every page was straightforward. It only took me a week to read. Prior to reading the book I knew it would be about two migrant workers that were struggling with making ends meet in hard times (Goodread.com). The only preconceived notion I thought was going to happen was when Lennie and George were chased out of a town named “Weed” because of Lennie’s actions, when
The two books I chose to read were Looking for Alaska by John Green and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Station Eleven written by Mandel, is a science fiction book, because it is set in the future, after a virus has reduced the human population and cut off electricity. Written by John Green, Looking for Alaska is a realistic fiction book. It details the life of Miles Halter who goes to a boarding school and falls in love with Alaska who tragically dies in a drunk driving accident. In Station Eleven the author uses poetic language to describe the dystopian society they now live in. Unlike some other science fiction novels it manages to make the reader marvel at the language but also be intrigued by the plot. Looking for Alaska realistically
The book began with Emily being at her best friends house Sloane. Emily's best friend went missing and a list of things to do arrived at Emily’s house. The whole book either takes place at Emily’s house or somewhere in town. The time period is basically modern days, but with a few flashbacks. It has a lot of technology, neighborhoods, and many things to do in town. The author probably picked this setting where Emily is at Sloane's house to show how much she really misses her friend.
Do you have a favorite book? My favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lowery. The insightful, thought-provoking plot focuses on a young boy named Jonas. I am intrigued by the book’s concept of sameness, and I enjoy the development of the relationship Jonas forms with the Giver. The book, by the way, hits on many issues that can lead to meaningful class discussions, journals, and essays. All in all, The Giver is an excellent read. Wow! Thinking about it makes me want to read it
The book I chose is the fault in our stars, because I like romance movies and books. The author of this book is John Green he published this amazing book on January 10, 2012 their are exactly 313 pages in this book . The differences between the book and the movie in my opinion really isn't that much , but I believe that the book gives you more details than the movie really does. The Fault in our stars is about two cancer patients falling in love. The young girl that has been diagnosed with cancer at a young age is Hazel Grace . Hazel's mom makes Hazel go to classes to talk about how she feels about cancer and to make friends because she really doesn't talk to anyone . She meets this Guy there named Augustus Waters. When they first spoke to
The story begins at Miss Emily’s funeral, where the whole town shows up to say goodbye to their past treasure. Emily is a symbol for the past days and her life was a mystery, which is what made her so interesting. The story consists of flashbacks from an unknown narrator and tells the tale of Miss Emily and the towns different perspectives of her. Faulkner’s short story is like a “time machine…[it] is about the past and Miss Emily’s tenacious clinging to the past”(Clausius). However, the fact that the whole town shows up to her funeral means that they too can’t let go of her or the past. The town is almost haunted by Miss Emily; although, the narrator is sympathetic towards her. At her funeral, the narrator notes that Emily has been “. . .a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the
