Quite possibly, I will never find such great possessions such as my faith, my mother, and my horse. I could search all around the world, and never once come across something quite as valuable as them. These three things have solely changed my life, along with the way I view life. I hold them so dearly to my heart. Easily, possessions such as books, clothes, trophies, are but of this world; however I firmly cling to the fact that these valued things will never leave me. I wouldn’t truly be living if I didn’t have them in my life. The topic of faith is very controversial. Many believe it is merely an idea of fiction, while others hold on to miracles. For me, faith has provided comfort and strength. There is so much more to learn in my Christianity. …show more content…
I hear so many stories of my friends that merely dislike their moms, I’m so grateful to be placed with her. She is one of my best friends and is such a pure joy to be around. When people tell me that I am like her, oftentimes I am filled with happiness. I can only hope to be half the woman that she is. Yes, she is awkward, she is weird, she is embarrassing; but without those, she wouldn’t be Jenny Swenson. These attributes don’t make her any less lovable. She has a thirst to serve our Lord, which has greatly influenced my life. She reflects to me the power of possessing joy through even the hardest of trials. I wouldn’t be who I am without her. Aside from my mother, another one of my best friends in my horse, Lydi. Each time I get in the saddle, I am filled with security and strength. When she was two, I rescued her; I have had her for three years now. Since that time, she has probably taught me more than I have taught her. No matter what the situation, she listens to what I have to say and is always there for me. Lydi is the light of my life, I am so proud of her and the loving horse she has grown to become. Possessions make up a person, they even have the ability to define who you become. My faith, my mom, and my horse are what I owe the majority of my growth as a person to. They have altered my who I am. The time I have spent with them is the most valuable of moments. I think, in the
Humans struggle their entire lives to find affection that satisfies them. We assign this affection to objects that we obtain throughout our lives. An engagement ring, for example, is a large meaning attached to a small object. While it still has quite a high expense, women care more about the man who it’s from than the store, well, hopefully. In Akiko Busch’s story The Uncommon Life of Common Objects, she explores the objects her two sons, and people in general, become attached to over time. There’s a certain box she brings up and says “Sometimes the little box had value, sometimes it had none, and its worth seemed to come and go, by pure chance” (1). She discusses why certain things are worth more than others and why certain things have more
My mom has been through a lot with me she got me healthy even if she was sick during the time I was a baby, She has helped me with my reading and writing disability and has pushed me to do my best. She is a strong confident woman that is loving she loves to attend to people and has a great smile. She has shown me that even if times are hard you have to bring your head up and raise it high. I maybe a mama’s boy but my mom is one of my greatest role models and people I admire.
Many people would agree that without faith, the world would be in chaos. The book Christian Foundation by Kathleen Fischer and Thomas Hart gives an interpretation on faith in our time. Many people would question the definition of faith. Faith is a gift, which is given by God to have trust in him and belief in him. This book is a great entry in anyone's life that has speculation on his or her own faith. The book has many ways into understanding ones own religion. It discusses the Bible, Jesus, Church, God's existence and Images of God. All of these chapters helped me get a better interpretation of what my religion entailed.
Greedy people are some of the most disoriented people on Earth. These snobby people may have a lot of “treasures” here, but when they die, most likely not. Keeping all of your items and possessions to yourself is weak. God should come first overall of the meaningless things you “own.” He put you here on Earth, to love Him, not put idols before Him. Greed is very selfish because you could give
Faith in Christ has given me a unique life filled with optimism and purpose. From a young age, I have been raised in a home where I was taught about the love of Christ. Not only at home did I learn about Christ, but at school and at church. Thus, my life has been filled with experiences that have amplified my faith. For example, when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, I found that my relationship with Christ grew. Through all of the difficult circumstances that I have faced, faith in Christ has given me the encouragement that I need to persevere through any situation. Additionally, faith has influenced my decision making, which is why I strive to make all my decisions and live my life according to faith-based principles. This means
As humans, we carry around many tangible objects in our daily lives. Whether it is a bag filled with what is needed for the day or just our phone, we rely on certain things to navigate us through our days. There are also intangible things which are the traits that make us up, that we carry around with ourselves every day. Personally, I try to carry as little as possible when I go out. I will most likely grab my phone, keys, money, and chapstick and be out the door. In most cases, the difficulty of carrying the weight of our personal lives can seem to outweigh what we are physically carrying. As for abstract things that I carry, I have a lot going on. I am an extreme overthinker and find it almost impossible to stop myself from thinking, no
My second precious possession is my Nanny’s (grandmother) wedding ring. I would take her wedding ring with me because it is the only thing I have from her since she passed away two years ago. My nanny was one of the best people I knew and I miss her everyday, I wish there was a way to be able to see her again but there isn’t and that is really hard on me. Wearing this ring would remind me of her strength, faith, and humbleness that she portrayed during her battle with cancer, and it would be a constant reminder that no matter what happens to me I can get through it. This possession would be one of the hardest things for me to leave
“There is a fascination with the idea that one has 'seen someone else do something' before one can achieve it. Maybe that's true in some cases, but clearly it is not a requirement. I knew what I wanted to do.”-Mae C. Jemison. When the space shuttle Endeavour blasted off on it’s second mission on September 12, 1992, it carried the first African-American women into space. Mae C. Jemison was not only an astronaut, she’s also a physician, a Peace Corps volunteer, a teacher, and a founder and president of two technology companies.
Everyone enjoys material things, whether they want a brand new car or even a phone; these items do not provide any necessity for survival, yet they make people’s lives much easier, and even more
It is hard for humans in a society with many liberties to realize and acknowledge that every beneficial thing we have can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of another person or group of people. Sometimes in extreme ways, and sometimes in minor ways. Sarah Anne Curzon is one of many women who have dedicated and dedicate years of their lives towards giving future women equality and opportunities which they themselves were never given. She was born in 1833, in Birmingham, England. At the age of 25, she married Robert Curzon, and shortly after, they immigrated to Toronto. She quickly became involved in activism and literary groups in the Toronto community. She was a playwright who published two influential plays. Due to financial instability, she and her husband lived in many different neighbourhoods. She died in 1998 at her son’s house in Toronto. At the time, she was living at 15 Grenville Street. Sarah Anne Curzon deserves to be honoured and thanked for raising her voice in a time when there was much silence, and making change for generations to come.
Kaylee Swenson is a fourteen year old girl, soon to be fifteen. She is a kind, bubbly, fun person. She is a good person and a good student. She is also an artist and musical fanatic.
The things I carry is not as meaningful as the things that I keep safe. Physically I carry a phone and it means something for me because it’s direct contact with my friends and family with the push of a button. Not only that, but I am able to see the pictures and videos of loved ones that passed away or are so far away that I can’t see them. My phone is the quickest way for anyone to reach me at any time and it is very meaningful for me to talk to the people I love. Something that I have, but I don’t carry is a gold chain that my mother gave me. When it comes to objects, it is the most meaningful of all. The reason why it is so meaningful for me is because the backstory that went goes with it. My mom is very important to me and she raised me
Another important artifact in my life is my suitcase. My suitcase has been to L.A, Washington D.C., New York City, and even Hawaii. It has been everywhere I have. If I did not have my suitcase I would not have been able to travel because I would not have had any clothes or even a jacket. This is definitely one of the most important artifacts in my life.
Vacation, camps, life experiences, and values all bring people together. No matter how you meet someone or the distance between you, strong bonds can be formed that last a lifetime, and carry on between more people than the original group. One of my experiences in this was at church; this is a place I have been many times and had the privilege of meeting many people. As I am more involved in a variety of activities I began to meet new people. People from all walks of life with different stories, life experiences, and aspirations; at vacation bible school I met someone who, though I didn’t know at the time, would have such a tremendous impression on my life, Victoria Sweinhart. This is a lady who has a huge heart and leaves a lasting impression
What is faith? Scripture tells us in Hebrews 11:1 that “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (NIV) Faith means trusting that various situations will provide results best suited to help us in some way during our life. I’m sure others may have a different opinion; however, throughout my life, that has been the most accurate description.
