As regards the main protagonist, Holden, there are many things to comment on him. From the beginning of the book, we can observe that he is not the typical character that usually appears in books. The first thing that amazes me about him is his way to speak. He uses strange vocabulary and some unusual expressions when he is referring to readers, that is, when he is telling us his thoughts.

Over the years it has been a target of controversy and an abundance of debate on whether the book should be censored, and if it is okay to teach it in the schools. The book contains a plethora of crude language as well as topics including sex and alcohol. What critics do not see, however, is censoring such a book would be a waste of time and is not necessary. The Catcher in the Rye should not be censored.

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger has been very popular for adults and adolescent readers. But, not everyone is ecstatic over this controversial novel. This novel has been banished from schools in the states of Oklahoma, California, and South Carolina. The question is why? What in the book made these people/organizations embargo this exceptional work and deny its intricate plot. On the the other hand in my opinion, this book should not be banned to the public and it’s appropriate for teens.
J.D. Salinger's first and only novel, Catcher in the Rye, centers around a relatable yet at times dislikable sixteen-year old boy grasping with impending adulthood after flunking out of prep school. Holden Caufield struggles with a nostalgic attachment to the innocence and purity of childhood, while at the same time adopting more mature behaviours in order to be acknowledged in a society that only recognizes the validity of adults.
His relationship with his younger sister Phoebe is an example of Holden maturing. Holden constantly is looking out for Phoebe and vice versa he shows glimpses of being a grown up, but he still refuses to grow up. The way he views women is just one of many signs that Holden is immature.

The banning of Catcher in the Rye I believe will make our society safer by having
Catcher in the Rye is a very confusing book. Usually you can kind of guess what is going to happen next. For an example when Holden, the main character, is arguing with his roommate Stradlater you could tell that they were going to get physical with each other. Holden has a lot of conflicts that an everyday person would not encounter. I have never seen any 16 year old have to deal with the problems he has had. He is at the weird age where he is becoming an adult but yet he is still a child.
