Imagine one is in a car accident after hitting a deer and almost killing one of your best friends. This was the situation in my book “WTF”. On October 17th Jimmy and Cam were driving in a stolen car without a license on a stormy fall night. As they were driving on a dark back road, a deer jumped out in front of the car and Jimmy slammed into it. The puritans would ban the novel “WTF” because of the sinful characters who did not respect authority and had no religion in their lives Puritans would oppose the novel due to the sinful characters. Jimmy, Cam, and Bryon were not the greatest people in New York. They were very sinful and didn't listen to anyone. Like usual, They use a lot of bad language and swearing. Before the car accident Jimmy and Cam stole a car from a local neighborhood and after a while Jimmy realized that they shouldn't of listened to Cam who talked him into driving even though neither of them had a license, so if they get pulled over they knew jail time might is what they're facing. Jimmy and Cam started to argue more and more, they began swearing at each other they wanted to go to a huge party but …show more content…
Jimmy and Bryon both had to run from the police many times either stealing from stores or getting into fights, the most recentis after the car accident. They both knew they could get serious jail time for stealing a car, having no license, and injuring Cam who was ejected from the car. After Jimmy and Bryon realized Cam wasn't getting up they picked him up and leaned him over the steering wheel they made it looked like only Cam was in the vehicle, the deer was laying on the side of the road by the front bumper. They could hear the sirens coming closer after they made sure everything looked as planned, both of them jumped over the guardrail and ran down the hill. They hid under a log where they can see the car from, soon after a police car, ambulance, and a tow truck showed
The mother and son were driving past when the car backfired which led the guards to think it was an attack. They decided to chase these attackers the guards then forced the mother and son’s car into a ditch; where they assaulted them after.
But, banned would be far too much knowledge of the Puritan ways and the immoral way of the Puritans handling a mistake or a situation like that. They have to read how people want to censor the evil thoughts and rules of the Puritan religion back then. It should not be banned so it can show teens that the individual behind the mistake is someone who can be redeemed and forgiven without being punished. This book shows every character developing and changing significantly. Each character redeemed themselves in some occurrence, and I feel like that should play a big part on why it should not be banned. Future generations need to read this somewhat feminist way of thinking and writing characters that far ahead of their time. “Hester has followed her sexual desires despite the stringent Puritan standards and freely takes the consequences of her actions. Despite the condemnation and censure of the community, Hester’s independence prevails as she sews on an elaborate A upon her dress, and as she refuses to allow herself to be totally marginalized by society.” (Westwood) At the end of the novel, Hester even comes back and volunteers to help the sick and needy and continues to sew. The townspeople, not knowing of preceding reason, even uses the long overdue A on her dresses to represent an angel. I fundamentally believe that kids in classes have to read about her path to redemption and should read a book where they do not shame the person who has made a mistake yet uses a different perspective and makes the story about how they are so much more than
Foul language, gang violence, rivalries, dysfunctional families, underage drinking, and drug abuse at a young age are all examples of things a teen should not learn about. Children or teens can be immature and take the examples of things within the book the wrong way and use it to their advantage. Overall, this book should be on the banned book list and not be read by
The main reason was because the book mentioned discussions of being drunk, smoking cigarettes, profanity, and using God’s name in vain. Criticizer Diana Verm stated "The book had a bunch of very bad language in it. It shouldn’t be in there because it’s offending people.” Altom Verm also said "It's just all kinds of filth.” Just because you find “offensive” terms in the book, doesn’t mean it has to be barred from everybody. Alton Verm has stated he hasn’t read the book. (yourhoustonnews.com Kassia Meck) His only reason for wanting it to be banned is because he finds it “too offensive.” I find it nefarious that a book can be banned just because it doesn’t fit someone’s ideal opinion. The ALA states “The ALA promotes the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one's opinions even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular” (ALA mission statement) This just goes to show that what you believe, shouldn’t have an impact on others. I don’t believe a book should be banned from a school district for those
There is discussion of being drunk, smoking, violence, overdosing, and using God’s name in vain. At the very beginning of the book the main character, Guy Montag, comes home to find that his wife Mildred passed out from overdosing on her sleeping pills. Though the society is said to consist of a lot of group violence there isn’t an actual scene of the violence, just description. Parents are also challenging this book because of these things. One thing to remember is this is a dystopian fiction book so it is all made up. Knowing the genre should allow students to not take it seriously. There are plenty of books published that consist of way more drugs, drinking, and violence that any kid can go get from their local library to read. If they are going to ban Fahrenheit 451 for their bad activities they may as well start regulating books that kids get from the library.
The first reason why this book was banned was the author’s use of offensive language. In the story, Rex Wall, who is Jeannette’s father, is the one who frequently says a lot of offensive languages. He has been saying a lot of words including: damn, hell, s---, screw, c--k, crap, c--t, a--, b--ch, b--tard, whore, p-ss, faggot, w-nker and the f-word. He also keeps repeating the
Despite the sufferance of victims, they often aren’t entirely blameless, as their poor decisions and irresponsibility is ultimately associated with their upsetting and newfound situation. Therefore victims like Fin O’Neil in The Story of Tom Brennan, who ultimately chose to travel in a car with drunken, inexperienced, and impulsive driver, it becomes questionable whether he is also culpable for his injuries. Despite Fin’s sobriety and awareness prior to the accident, this does not implicate him, however it becomes debatable whether the outcomes would be alike; with Fin’s extensive injuries and crash itself, if the decisions made on Fin’s behalf were different. Similarly in the story of ‘In My Little Town’, Leigh Charter Jnr also decides to travel with a drunk driver, regardless of the risks. Although his alertness was also compromised by alcohol, he holds some level of responsibility in his death. However, in ‘Shattered’, there are no obvious victims who made poor decisions, due to the situations isolation. Although, it is disputable whether the perpetrator; Peter Hodgkins’ friends who witnessed the accident could have altered the outcome. Though, it was voiced to Peter; “don’t throw a rock at a car, that’s stupid,” (‘Shattered’, 2011) this partly ousts some responsibility, especially due to their intoxication, which is similar to the other stories. However, responsibility is never fully removed from others, as it only takes one person, one conversation, and any one action during the lead to alter the outcome of July 21st 2007, in Kiama, New South

2) This article is categorized as the victim because an innocent man was killed by the actions of another person. If the driver accidentally hit Jamie from the lack of visibility at night, stayed at the scene or called for help this would have been a different story. However, the driver left the scene of the crime which is illegal. There were no prior interactions and it was clearly another person's fault for Jamie's death..
While in Joplin, Missouri, they stole a car and took many pictures in gang poses. When they left they forgot to take the film with them. The police developed the film to find the license plate number and tracked them down. Somewhere in Missouri, a police officer pulled the gang over; the gang forced the policeman into the car. Down the road aways the battery died on them and they left Bonnie in the car to keep a lookout. Meanwhile they walked to the closest store and forced the police officer to steal a
The book was banned for many reasons, including the main character of the novel Holden. Holden has a very negative outlook on life which is one of the reasons why the book was banned. He also hires a prostitute, which is inappropriate to younger readers. Also Holden has mental emotional problems. This book was written in the 1950s, during that time there was a negative stigma around this time. People who had mental illnesses anything from anxiety to schizophrenia were viewed as crazy. Since, it is quite obvious but not stated that Holden has depression, the people of that time would probably view Holden as crazy.
One of the biggest points of the book is the outlawing of books. This is because books almost all have opinions and they were written in a time where people voiced their opinions and weren’t
The first (and most obvious) reason why The Hate U Give could’ve been banned is language. There is a lot of bad and inappropriate words used in this book. Throughout the story, many of the characters would express their emotions with profanity. This helps set the climate and mood of the story as well. While it is a good reason to ban a book, it does help the story better explain each character and the lives they live. The main character, Starr, is always cursing around her family, and they do the same. This really helps to show their relationships and how close they
The main character in the book, Holden Caulfield, focused on this virtue of innocence and discusses with the audience all the struggles he faced during the process of growing up. Censorship is when the government denies access to those requesting the information because an object shows the threat of being too vulgar or inappropriate for the society (“Censorship” ). Many books have
The nature of the novel to be taboo or something that must not be read is something that gives it much more power than it may have had if not given this recognition. It has been banned countless, countless times, and still somehow remains a classic in the eyes of millions. It is still one of the top 100 novels ever sold in existence. In fact, it has sold nearly 40 million copies. This is one of the biggest reasons that it can be proven to be influential, and also show a dramatic irony in that the banning of this novel caused it to be much more famous than it was intended to
