John Adams was born October 30, 1735, in Massachusetts. He was the son of John Adams Sr. who was a farmer and served as the deacon at his church. Adams was a very intelligent man and was offered a scholarship to Harvard University when he was only 16. He decided to go to Harvard although his father wanted him to stay in Massachusetts and enter the ministry. He studied law at Harvard in the office of James Putnam. Later in 1758 he earned his masters degree in law.
After he graduated from Harvard he became highly involved in the patriot causes. He became involved in these causes because of his opposition to the Stamp Act of 1765. How did he have such a huge influence on a major movement like this you might ask? The answer is quite simple Adams was elected to the Massachusetts Assembly. He wrote his ides on the independence of the colonies in the preamble and sent them. In May 15, 1776, the preamble that John Adams wrote on the independence of the colonies was approved and because of Adams writing this it had set the stage for the Deceleration of Independence.
“In 1777 he became head of the Board of war and ordinance.” (biography.com) Adams had many diplomatic roles while he served. He served during the Revolutionary War and was part of the group who was sent to Paris to help negotiate the Treaty of Paris. Through all of these diplomatic roles he became the first U.S minister to England. In 1789 John Adams was elected vise president to George Washington. He was the first vise president and 8 years later became the second president of the United States in 1797.
He married Abigail Smith in 1764 and later had five children. His family was the first family to reside in the White House for four months during the time of his presidency. After his presidency he decided to run again but lost his votes to Thomas Jefferson who became the 3rd President of the United
