Research seems very useful, even with just the smallest types of questions. "Why did this person do that?" "How?" These types of questions can actually help you understand more prior to your reading. In my story "Lost Boy, Lost Girl," by John Bul Dau, research was actually a very vital part because before reading the story, the story actually made a lot of sense due to researching all about John Bul Dau, and the Second Sudanese Civil War. Also, I am able to understand what the definition of a Lost Boy in Sudan, and the setting as well. What I mean is that I was able to picture how the area was nothing like it is in America. Rural deserts everywhere, and no light bulbs, flush toilets, electronics, not even metal and brick housing! To simplify,
Research allows us to better understand what is unknown, how a human thinks, why a dog barks when they hear a stranger approaching or that the earth is round and not flat. Research allows us to find answers to the questions we have. Research attempts to both understand and define. There are three kinds of research; Explanatory; Exploratory and Descriptive research. Explanatory, Exploratory and Descriptive research define what research is; Research is the attempt to explain, explore and describe (Neuman, 2006, 24).
WHAT IS RESEARCH? It is a planned process whereby information is collected for a specific purpose, analysed and reported.
Chapter 19 of Everyone’s An Author explains to the readers that it’s extremely important for you to do research on a topic. Research is searching for and gathering information, usually to answer a particular question or problem. Also, research begins as a kind of treasure hunt that provide you a stunning opportunity to investigate a subject that you care or wonder about. Finding a topic is one of the most important part for the process of your researching. In order to start your research effectively, you should find a topic that fascinates you, consider your rhetorical situation, and do some background research.
There are thousands of sport teams, from high school to professional, that have mascots that reference Native American culture. In an increasingly diverse and conscientious American culture, the question still stands is it appropriate for teams to continue to use mascots that appropriate another culture? John Barr reminds us that “I think that what I would encourage you to do and everyone else to do is just look at the history, understand where the name came from, understand that it means… honor, it means respect, it means pride. And it’s that simple” (Wulf). Barr’s point is that when teams pick this name it is an honor to be called a Native American name. In Barr’s point I would highly agree with him because, my family takes heart to that.
Research can be used in many methods, for example: questionnaires, television, leaflets, books etc. it allows us to keep up to date on the new findings or discoveries e.g. a new type of cancer or a new vaccination. Research is the investigation into
Research is vital in understanding why certain theories are conceived. Essentially, through research I am studying human life and more so studying human
John Bul Dau was born in the Duk County in southern Sudan. He was born to a family who raised cattle for a living. In 1987, when John was thirteen years old, a war broke out between northern Sudan and southern Sudan. Northern Sudan mostly consists of Muslims whose mission was to gain control of southern Sudan. The people of southern Sudan were forced to leave their homes in order to escape blood shed. This journey to escape was a true test of his courage and leadership skills. One night, when everyone was asleep, the northern Muslims came to attack Duk County everyone was awoken to an image of fear and restlessness. John immediately went in search for his father and ran towards a man whom he thought was his father. He ran with the man until he no longer heard the sounds of the attackers. John later finds out that the man is not his father, but
The biggest thing I noticed in the process of doing research was how much time it took. I don’t usually amass 10 sources I usually only pick 5 to 6. When I do pick less sources I use a lot of information from them. I don’t just pick and choose. I think it is important to have a lot of different sources to support your argument but I also think quality over quantity is important as
The first session that I attended was “Research Beyond the Classroom by Joel Chirinos. He initially explain that research is redoing search to find what we want to know. His advice was to always focusing in our topic to find the most useful information. Research is used to support our writings, opinions, etc. From this talk, he made us value the library as a very important medium to gain useful and credible information that could help us in our classes. Mr.Chirinos also mentioned how research does not end in the classroom. For example, when we are planning to go to a trip, we start researching to look for prices in different websites and pamphlets. Another example could be when we want to buy
According to Depoy and Gittin, research is a way individuals think about problems in systematic way. Research is generally described as description, exploration, analysis, prediction and problem solving. There are different types of research and these researches are called the experiments, quasi-experiments and non-experiments. The purpose of research is to provide the insight to practice, it also enhance individuals understanding as well as developing new approaches with different topics, get to test your research for effectiveness. Understanding research is important because it helps to build individuals knowledge bases and informs decision making in practice. Research also enable us to make sure that our practice are up to date with relevant information.
Because there is no endless for education, people keep doing research to fulfill their curiosity. Additionally, a potential research also helps people develop their knowledge in short term and long term run. As for me, when I do a research, the problem that underlines my question should be something that I don’t know. It should be something that I’m curious such as the weather. Even though my research doesn't directly signify the social problem, but that is one part which made my research unique and interesting for me, because people don’t really care about the weather, as long as it isn't too terrifying as a hurricane, so no one cares. To be honest, the weather in Merced is weird and unpredictable. One of the reason is that the land of Merced city is flat and grassy.
My community is one that I feel very comfortable and confident about, thus, I didn’t not need to do much research, but rather pour everything I knew about it into my writing. Once in a while I would look up certain things such as the roles and certain lexicon. However, since I was simply looking them up to confirm my information, I didn't consider it research. The part where I did include a little bit of research was when it came to acquiring pictures to include in my discourse
What I have learned about research at an introductory level is that research is finding out about things we do not
Research is a form of systematic inquiry. It sets out to answer questions through assessing, summarizing and drawing conclusions from what are often very large amounts of information.
Part of being a good researcher involves the ability to follow certain values when doing research, such as being organized, persuasive, detail oriented, honest and ethical. A good researcher will not only think outside the box but they will also keep an open mind. Having these characteristics are important as they allow for new possibilities to occur. Being passionate, knowledgeable, along with creative are also additional components of being a good researcher, as they allow the researcher to express their ideas demonstrating the knowledge they gained and passion
