He woke up in a stark white room with white sheets on his medical gurney with IV tubes pumping a thick blue liquid into his very dehydrated veins. He was suddenly filled with immense fear of his surroundings. He could not remember how he got here or even what this room was. The only vague thing he remembered was his name, John. John recited his name multiple times in his head to try to at least bring back a vague unimportant memory of any kind. He had no luck after the fifteen minutes of him trying to remember anything. After what felt like hours of being awake, a very young nurse came in carrying a plate of food. John didn’t realize how hungry he was until the nurse came in carrying the plate of food. This room was decorated with very oriental furniture and exotic paintings. The only thing that stood out of place was a modern bathroom in the corner of the room. The table was the thing that caught his eye; it had a full three course meal and desert. He couldn’t hold back his appetite, so he ran towards the table with such speed you would think he was Usain Bolt. He sat down in the chair and started shoveling food into his mouth like it was an all you can eat buffet. It wasn’t until his second course that he realized a note a note by the food and it said, “You have one hour to freshen up and get ready, Mr. J. ” This made John lose his appetite, because he knew that his test was far from done. He took the notes advice and patched up his leg wound and took a shower. It felt good to be clean and fresh, he also took some painkillers to help him recover from the limp. When John came out of the bathroom there was another note with a knife, bow and some arrows. The note was also by Mr. J but this time it said, “You are going to need this for your next ‘test’, Mr.J.” By this time, this Mr. J was starting to really worry John. “What am I going to need to use a knife and a bow for,” said John silently. This test was actually starting to scare John. The weapons, Mr. J saying he was going to need those weapons. This wasn’t adding up in John’s head. By the time he was done it was six o’clock on the dot so he went to steak palace and ordered a sirloin steak medium rare for dinner. It was a faithful weekend after A couple had recently got married and both awoke in the middle of the night with severe hunger. They had nothing to eat in the house because they had just got married and moved into a new apartment. According to the narrator, in their refrigerator, they only had a bottle of French dressing, six cans of beer, two shriveled onions, a sitck of butter, and a box of refrigerator deodorizer. This scenario reminded the husband when he was an adolescent in collaboration with his friend they both had to rob a bakery because they were so hungry. Though the robbery was not successful they way they thought because the owner of the bakery gave them a thorough condition, more like a deal by telling them that “they can have as much bread as they wanted as long as they sit and listen to the complete classical music albums.” Now, they had to put their weapons away, and gently obeyed as the owner of the bakery has told them. They sat down and listen to the music and then took as much bread as they could carry.

John is a 23-year-old man from Discovery Bay, Saint Ann Jamaica. He recently just graduated undergraduate school and is optimistic about his future here in the United States. John is a very introverted person because of his culture and how he was raised, however he still enjoys engaging with people from various walks of life and learning how to adapt to an American lifestyle while still maintaining his culture.
