On Friday, September 23, 2016, Justin Pratt was sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison. Plus on top of the time remaining on, his murder sentence, which is expiring in May 2017 after pleading guilty to armed robbery. Pratt and his wife entered a man’s home and stole his medication at gunpoint. Justin Pratt felt horrible and embarrassed by his action and said “I’m sorry for what I’ve done, and want to change things”. He was watching the TV approximately 12:30 p.m. when the armed individuals burst in and asked for his prescribed hydromorphone pills. One of the robbers said, “Give the pills up, it’s not worth getting shot over.” The victim begged to spare his dog when the gun was pointed at the dog. He was feared to be shot once the thieves stole his 10 pills, a watch and the cash. The homeowner took his shotgun barrel and briefly tussled, but no one was hurt. Before his years at the University of North Carolina, he spent many years playing for his high school team and elite AAU teams. He made himself stand out that led him to UNC. This 22 year old helped UNC get to their 26-6 record and their 14-4 record in league play, that gave the team its 31st regular-season Atlantic Coast Conference title. Billy Gene Phillips Sr. was born to Clara Faye and Carl James Phillips on January 15, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. My grandfather grew up in Oklahoma City for the most part of his life. He was raised with three siblings, James Dean Phillips, Donna Faye Conway, and Virginia Ann Terry. He was the second to youngest child in his family. At the age of sixteen he met my grandmother Bonnie Walker, which later married on February 6, 1976 at the age of nineteen. They lived in Dibble, Oklahoma, where they raised five kids, David Phillips, Billy Phillips Jr., Bonnie Phillips, Regenia Phillips, and Virginia Phillips. He had seven grandchildren. In 2003 he fought his son Billy Phillips Jr. In a custody battle for three of his grandchildren, because he didn't believe they were given the best life.
On September 1, North Carolina man by the name of Matthew James Phelps has been charged with murder after stabbing his wife, Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, to death.
